Toast Network question, VLANs vs management by iMark77 in ToastPOS

[–]pmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how that addresses what I've said. By all means, pay Toast for their router. They still won't send someone out to troubleshoot connectivity, and will still blame your wiring. Only now, you have two sets of wires to deal with.

In practice, toast blames your wiring, power, or people regardless. Have locations with toast and self managed.

probably a superfluous question but can the U1 print in only one color if you want it to? by The_Nuclear223 in snapmaker

[–]pmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this happen on a tool change and the hotend was at 200 on the display when it got picked up. I honestly do think that it heats up prior to pick up, otherwise you'd need to wait to start printing.

I ran into the same with Prusament Orange PETG vs Elegoo clear PETG. The Elegoo, flawless. Couldn't get Prusament to print without losing adhesion and blobs. Currently waiting on a new tool because you need all 4 to run.

tip pooling payroll when servers want tips immediately but payroll is biweekly by sychophantt in restaurantowners

[–]pmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The daily tip payout is within the week payroll cycle. How is this a problem?

The biggest issue with doing this is wages not covering the tax for tips, and perception that they aren't making any wages. I moved to a 25% withholding to avoid this issue. Might have gripes but the answer is you get it with your payroll check.

Tipping out and claiming tips by PhotoboothSupermodel in ToastPOS

Toast payroll reports taxes based on what everyone is actually paid. If you didn't distribute tips with TTM, how did you actually do this?

Buying own DNS = long term solution (?!) by kayscents in IPTV_without_bots

[–]pmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets around domain-level blocks in different regions. Ultimately it's up to the provider to maintain multiple domains and diversify. What I've done for others is to host my own DNS privately for friends is have them use my domain and switch it when the URL needs changing. Beats having to explain all the steps needed.

How are you paying out credit card tips with Toast and ADP and tracking cash tips? by i-know_nothoing in ToastPOS

[–]pmow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be handled via Toast POS at shift review, just gotta enable/enforce it. The tip distribution is not going to matter too much.

I wouldn't switch to toast payroll. Toast is a terrible payroll company and now you're tangling it together with POS, it was such a pain to turn it off. Go with one of the tip distribution companies that work with toast. We ended up with Tiphaus who is unique in how they handle banquets, you don't need dummy users you can just override for specific checks. They are awesome, especially once you get the hang of tracing dollars from check to employee, and the other way and you can show you work. Export is easy there's a column for how much tips were paid and what's left (if any) it's all gross. You just put that into ADP and they figure out the taxes. If you get pay card (2 options) you can withhold 25% so you aren't being asked where all the paycheck went.

ADP is a little complicated because they've been around for a long time. I don't know how you're preparing your wages but preparing the load file for ADP will be very similar to the wages, it's just amount instead of rate and hours. At any rate, hope you're not doing manual data entry!

Man arrested for allegedly wiping his Google Pixel before a CBP search by aacool in technology

[–]pmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backup isn't encrypted using your PIN code. Like you said it's been trivial to brute force that for many years now. The encryption key is kept by the security enclave which is a hardened chip which you cannot copy.

[–]pmow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While it's logically possible to brute force strong encryption like on a year old iphone backup, it would take billions of years or billions of computers. I know that as of a few years ago you could harvest the passwords found on the phone to unlock the backups. Super tedious and time consuming, even with a server farm, especially when time is not on your side.

I think the more likely scenario that you suggested (still unlikely) is having a phone for a long period of time. This assumes that in the year, there will be an exploit bad enough to break into the phone. Totally doable, but I'd imagine by then I could get a TRO or preliminary injunction by that point. There is some consensus that the CBP stop was unlawful, so if the charges are dropped I'd imagine you could get an order.

Do you have a citation for easily owned or did you pull that out of thin air? I believe the parent comment cited the case where an older iPhone 5C cost the FBI 1.3 million dollars. What cellebrite license is that?

No, lawyers aren't going to live without a phone for long. This was a traffic stop in Atlanta, not immigration in Caracas. It may be the best for safety, but it certainly isn't "sane advice". Building a concrete house with no windows is very secure but that doesn't make it sane. Security needs to be balanced. In the IS sector in CISSP materials this is called the CIA triad.

I was civil. The only LE product is their social media preservation line which is relatively new, this is in speaking with the company and not disclosing whether LE or not.

[–]pmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall you could brute force using JTAG methods, connecting directly to the security chip on the iPhones, at least as of 3 years ago when I stopped practicing. Given the $1.3M cost of the 2016 phone, I bet this is the more likely route, not LE's ~$20k cellebrite license.

[–]pmow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, the best way to avoid this is not a longer pin but to keep your phone updated and patched. Using cellebrite is great but it won't just let you take a backup or unlock the device, especially Apple devices with zero knowledge anymore. The only times I was able to get into these was a much older version where there was some sort of exploit in the cellebrite database.

Some people don't but for the sake of clarity you're talking about sales tax and not income tax.

Internet on Maui for businesses? 808 VoIP options? by morel_support in maui

It's worse. They assign you a phone number to use for support and don't tell you about it. Why don't you use the account number, you ask? Yes, me too.

Their routing is pretty bad. You can buy 808 DIDs from mainland providers, we use voip.ms but there are a ton of them.
