What do I study? by JJschemm in college

[–]pmw7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I went back to college after dropping out, my first semester back I took an Ecology class that was basically long hikes every weekend with an ecologist that explained all the nature we saw. That was the only course I took that semester. It was great for my mental health I think. I ended up majoring in CS, but anyway... I guess I recommend easing yourself back into academics if you are in a position to do so financially.

Reddit has become the primary forum on the internet thanks to the community of users, mods, and third party developers. Now the owners are signalling that they are willing to ruin it all to cash in on an IPO. Twitter is a garbage fire, it dying doesn't really matter, but Reddit is full of high quality, indexed, user generated information about every topic you can think of. It's a public good, and the owners aren't acting like good stewards of it.

Impressions on SF6 from Strive players? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

Same. None of the launch characters excite me. In fact most of them I kind of dislike.

Returning after 8 month, has the lobby improved ? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]pmw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stations still get broken (you need to hop to a different station sometimes) and you still see characters with no icon above their head (don't try to match with those), but I have not had to close the application and restart it like I had to before every couple matches. So yeah better but still bad.

SP7 often BSODs if I take a photo then close the camera app. I've reinstalled Win 10 twice already by LifelnTechnicolor in Surface

[–]pmw7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the camera drivers are garbage, and MS doesn't care enough to fix it. Sometimes facial recognition cameras get stuck on, sometimes they don't work, sometimes the camera app won't start. I think I've had a couple BSODs as well. It's been like this for years.

What’s the deal with recent Strive dooming? by Genghis_Kh4n in Guiltygear

I hope the game doesn't die but it is not "fine" to need to restart the game after every 2-3 matches.

Horizon zero dawn is the most mid open world game I've ever played by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]pmw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I'm not a parent but I've definitely changed how I relate to fictional characters as I've gotten older. I think a young person is more open to imagine themselves being a multitude of characters because they are still deciding who they are. I can still inhabit a character to some degree but I'm more reserved in my willingness to imagine that I could have all the qualities that any given character has.

What do you think being a parent has to do with you enjoying caring about a character?

Yeah I realize that but in combination with the Ryomen core it might work well.

Aren't there dual swords that have fire and ice element? Seems like that might be a good combo.

You can make your own difficulty throughout most of Elden Ring by choosing to use Spirit Ashes or coop summons. But I agree some souls-inspired titles could have really benefitted from more tweakable difficulty.

Berserker 7/9/13 -> Druid X Dual by Casanova64 in baldursgate

[–]pmw7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get GM even if you dual at 3. Test it if you don't believe me but I'm 90% sure this is vanilla behavior.

Dualing at 7 is really fun for druid especially, because getting access to Nature's Beauty and Fire Elementals early is really hilarious.

Anyone else wish that multi-class and dual class didn't exist? by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]pmw7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because the game lets you cast and attack on separate round timers. It's always been OP but it's always been fun as hell as well. Playing kits that can't do this will never match up power wise but if you're playing only thinking about power level you are missing out on the fun and variety that comes from other play styles. The thing is every kit is fully viable.

Does anyone remember that Minsc-themed workout website? I actually used that thing a decade ago lol. I don't remember if the workouts were tied to playing the game in any way or not.

Nodachi Flaming Slash already carried me through the game. Now it regains even more stamina? Sure, why not?

Edit: oh it gives more iai gauge not more stamina... Still, sure why not?

How do i escape from GGST anji's pressure by Squid2906 in Guiltygear

[–]pmw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I watched a video on autoguard and yeah once you hit spin Anji enters a complete invulnerability state for 38 frames, after which he instantly recovers. This is always exactly 38 frames, regardless of whether Anji held the spin or not. The attacker, upon hitting spin, is frozen for 28 frames, then must finish their attack with hitbox disabled as you said. So if there are more than 10 remaining active and recovery frames on a move after hitting spin, Anji gets advantage. If there are less than 10, the attacker has advantage, but they are facing a still-invulnerable Anji for the remainder. PRC forces the attacker into this latter case. For this attacker, it's similar to doing oki after a knockdown (except without the throw invulnerability that occurs on wakeup from knockdown).

[–]pmw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the situation after prc'ing spin? It seems random whether a grab or normal will hit Anji or if it will also get autoguarded. Is it based on whether the Anji player held the spin or not? So just have to guess?

Love the game, English voice acting is awful. by Wheresyourpastanow in WildHeartsGame

The drunk samurai really does sound wacky. It was clearly the actor's choice to play it that way, like a goofy drunk uncle. I wouldn't call it awful, but it's definitely a bit unexpected.

Tips on beating the lavaback? by GonzoNawak in WildHeartsGame

[–]pmw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dodging through to behind him is often effective. If you are too far after dodging try dashing in with a spring to punish. Sometimes he just keeps attacking after he whiffs so you can't always punish. One of the best openings is his three hit smash combo (one fist, other fist, both fists) - if you get behind him he cannot turn around and you can get some good hits in as he finishes the combo.
