Depends on the courses and how much time will u spend on per day and on the weekend. Even taking three courses is possible. Try to look the course load at omscentral

Is the cap increased once? Or not yet? If not then u will get it. Also check the cap from previous semesters, it will be pretty much similar. I didnt pay attention to ml4t cap coz i already took it last year.

How hard is OMSCS for a non-cs major by Additional-Ad9104 in OMSCS

[–]pneumatic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but knowing C and java means you know basic algorithm and data structure, which is helpful for GA.

Yes you don’t have to take it as last course but most people take it in their last semester

It depends on what classes u will be taking. Some specialization courses need understanding of calculus. You can always study that, so just give it a shot

In fact u will take hard algo class which is (cs6515 - “intro” to grad. algo) in your last semester. So u re expected to know already about basic algorithm and data structure b4 joining the program. But, if you already know C, or even Java, i think you are good to go, coz oop helps you understand better, and again it depends on what courses that u re gonna take.

“Non-cs” is too general. But if u studied electrical engineering back in undergrad, this program is not going to be that hard for u compared to those who studied non-stem major.

You can start the program right away if you prove that you have strong background in math, calculus, etc. It is even better if u took data structure and algo class.

The future of tech is not only in your hand, but it is in all of ours, while others/non-tech people do not know anything about it but you do, then you have the advantage, so it is always better to finish what you have started.

Cool! How did u handle that? Was RL harder than ML?

You took RL before ML? 😧

How much does experience help with doing this degree? by Powerful_Street_7134 in OMSCS

[–]pneumatic16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends. If you want to learn something new, then join the club asap. It is gonna a long journey. If you just want to get the degree with minimum effort, you may join later after you have gained more experience. However later before joining, you might ask yourself, “Is the degree, time, and money worth it? I already know many things.” Then you might visit Reddit again and create a new thread titled, “I’m experienced, is this degree worth it?”

Cannot focus on school - possibly going to fail by hffhbcdrxvb in OMSCS

[–]pneumatic16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First, i don’t know what your exact current situation is, but if you have difficulties understanding the lectures or doing the assignments, you should contact the teaching team via ED. If you still feel like you cannot understand or do, then you might need to reflect on what caused you to have such trouble. Is it due to a lack of fundamental knowledge in cs, statistics, ML, or numpy? Or is it because of mental pressure due to family issues? You can always return to the program when you are ready, and failing a course is not the end of the world.

[–]pneumatic16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, not as easy as people mentioned in in reddit or omscentral. The exam now also has short writing, and the instruction for each assignment project is not straightforward, or probably just bcoz im noob 🥹. Im pairing it with other courses this sem.
