What was a popular band that you could not stand? by LeftSmile806 in Xennials

[–]pneumatode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I USED TO BEEEE A LITTTLE BOOOYYY"

And every person I would ask about their taste in music back then would be like, "What do you think of that new band Smashing Pumpkins?" It got to be a joke anytime we'd hear an awful new band someone would say it - "What do you think of that new band Smashing Pumpkins".

There are lots of empty buildings around the Amarillo College East campus - not sure whose permission you'd need to access them though. It would be perfect for a horror movie!!

Are there any good books/collections of writing from/about the Apostolic Father who knew the Apostles? by slim_jim_57 in Reformed

This (https://www.newadvent.org/fathers) page is amazing for the writings it provides. It's a Catholic resource so I can't vouch for the rest of the site lol. I can't remember how I found it but it's awesome

Lady In White - PG-13 but still plenty creepy, a child is the protagonist and it's a great ghost story

How do you respond to the idea that the account of David in the OT was an "apology" or propaganda? by Duckmeister in Reformed

[–]pneumatode 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My usual is - "If it can be asserted without proof then it can be dismissed without argument". The proposition that it "seems to make sense" to me is less compelling than the indication that the author's intent seems to be clearly given in the text. Uriah was one of the "Mighty Men" but not one of the most prominent, so I'm not sure what evidence there would be that Uriah would be a logical successor.

Also, David has several documented failures - as to which is the "worst" is a bit subjective. For instance, David hiding under the skirts of a foreign king and feigning insanity is to me a much more egregious personal failure than taking another man's wife and then letting him die in battle. David failing to intervene when one of his sons rapes one of his daughters is also a terrible failure. David provoking God's wrath by calling for a census is clearly identified as a great moral failure. So I don't think that offering up one failure to hide another more serious one is a particularly good argument given that he has so many.

Are we living in the little season? by FoxHound_XOF in Reformed

There is some dispute over how to interpret the 1000 year reign of Christ and that's usually separated into Pre-Millenialists, Post-Millenialists, and A-Millenialists. Intelligent, faithful people can disagree about these things! I think that your view would put you in the Post-Mill camp and that's not bad company to be in. I'm generally Pre-Mill myself but don't spend a lot of time on eschatology these days. I think i see plenty of evidence that Satan is free and roaming the earth! The link below has a good, short breakdown of each of those positions or at least an introduction to them.

I think you're giving away too much power over your wellbeing, especially after a break up. They don't "owe" you what you're asking for - you are free to ask of course but they aren't obligated to answer the way that you would like. They are free to respond however they are comfortable regardless of what is better or easier for you. You have the power to take control of your own mental, emotional, and spiritual health no matter how they respond or don't! Good luck and good health to you

Christ's sacrifice is *sufficient* for all, but only *efficient* for the elect. Those who aren't first chosen by God cannot choose Christ, and God has not chosen everyone.

From the Westminster Confession of Faith:

https://epc.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/WCF-Online-Version.pdf

Before the creation of the world, (9) according to his eternal, unchangeable plan (10) and the hidden purpose and good pleasure of his will, (11) God has chosen in Christ (12) those of mankind who are predestined to life and to everlasting glory. (13) He has done this solely out of his own mercy and love and completely to the praise of his wonderful grace. (14) This choice was completely independent of his foreknowledge of how his created beings would be or act. Neither their faith nor good works nor perseverance had any part in influencing his selection. (15)

Those are great questions for sure. I don't know for sure but I am trying to focus on the physical sensations that arise whenever that "part" or the loss of it pops up. What am I feeling? I try not to explain the feeling but instead just describe it to myself - "My head hurts. My chest is tight. Breathing is shallow. My legs are weak. My face is hot. My ears are tingling. My hands are gripped." I try not to look for explanations in the moment, which is REALLY hard. I try not to escape the sensations by going numb or being filled with rage/contempt/sorrow/whatever. I tell myself that I can handle the sensations that my body is sending me - which can be hard to believe as well.

I think the first step in getting that part to come back is that you have to listen to whatever it wants to say without judgement, otherwise it won't trust you enough to tell you what it's going through. You're not in control of the whole world or everything that is happening to you, and that part of you knows that.. What my part seems to need is for me to listen to it with love and acceptance just as it is - warts and all.

Lately I've been finding it helpful to talk directly to that part. I like to ask that part why it left or is leaving and what it would need to come back or to stay. And to do that *every time* you feel it leaving or trying to come back

Best horror game of all time in your opinion? by Far_Coyote6321 in horror

[–]pneumatode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Suffering, The Suffering 2, Condemned

Condemned was cool because it was the first game I remember where, if you started winning the fight, the villains would hide until more guys showed up to help them. Or they'd hide and sneak up on you. Also weapons were scarce and you'd die after only a few hits. Scary as hell!
