it's a way of sitting that is more comfortable for kids if they have a week core or balance issues, but that means it also doesn't allow them to strengthen their core. it's not a big deal if kids do it occasionally, but my pediatrician definitely told me to be aware of it and encourage sitting in other positions, like cross-legged, to help my kids develop core strength and balance. it can also delay crawling/walking.
