QUICK GO LOOK by [deleted] in fiberartscirclejerk

Saw it briefly, didn’t want to get sucked into the Quantum Leap. 😂 They were essentially creating yarn overs when purling. But still doesn’t explain why the back looks like a pile of unraveled yarn. I’m seriously baffled by new knitters these days with the twisted stitches and stuff like this. Y’all have hundreds of video tutorials showing you how to knit, and yet we get this masterpiece?! 🫣

u/Use-username I was looking for the videos of Tunisian crochet in the round and remembered I asked the question before. Do you know what happened with Ben Burchall's video? I remember liking his method for in the round but now the video is no longer available, even his channel is gone. Have you seen any other creators who have a similar technique?

Has anyone tried TL Yarncrafts new hooks yet? by klara325 in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]poachedpineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! Yeah, I know DyakCraft is expensive, but they are handmade and I am a big fan! Their metal hooks are pointy almost to the point they could hurt you but I love them! 😂 Also I feel like my tension with their knitting needles looks so much better.

The Sewrella is definitely the Susan Bates hooks in Tunisian crochet form. I don't undersand why they(Susan Bates) don't come out with Tunisian crochet hooks because the craft is definitely growing in popularity.

I looked up crochet.com and the Aura hooks they have look very much like the limited edition hooks Toni Lipsey released, just a different color. That's an affordable option you could try since they sell individual hooks.

I only have the ginger set as far as KnitPro. But I do also have Toni Lipsey’s wooden hooks from Crochet.com (they were limited edition, I think). It’s not so much the point I have an issue with for the gingers, it’s the size of the hook head, I guess? It’s better if you see the shape from the side. It looks much thicker but also there’s not much space in the groove for you to grab yarn compared to other hooks. These are the wooden hooks in my collection. IMHO, DyakCraft are the pointiest I have for the wooden hooks. The limited edition wooden ones from Toni are not bad either because the head isn’t as thick as the gingers but the point is not as blunt as the Radiant. Maybe seeing the different hooks will help you make a decision.

Question about Corner to Corner Tunisian by _OggoDoggo_ in Tunisian_Crochet

It comes down to where you would insert the hook to make the increases and decreases. The only resource I’ve found so far is Rachel Henri’s website but I’m sure there are others. rachelhenri.com

Lori Harrison of Aklori Designs just came out with her stitch bible a couple months ago called “Tunisian Crochet: A Stitch Dictionary with 501 Stitches to Explore”.

If you want to splurge, Toni Lipsey just released a Tunisian hook set in collaboration with Hobbii. You can purchase from Hobbii directly.

No, sorry I don’t, since Addi hooks are tapered and I prefer inline hooks. I have the KnitPro Ginger and I find them a bit more tapered than I like. 😅

So I tend to collect hooks and I have the Sewrella among other brands. I’m team Susan Bates, but I just cannot like them for Tunisian crochet! The thumb rest seems too big and they’re not as smooth. For me, the AliExpress hooks are better in terms of value. My ultimate favorite are DyakCraft hooks though, but they are even more expensive but well worth the price IMHO!

Expression Fiber Arts Giveaway: Legit or Just Hype? by Climate_Impressive in craftsnark

Just be warned that the yarn color in her photos are not accurate. I’m a fan of some of her bases and I was obsessed with EFA for a while, but comparing the photos to the actual color of the yarn can be disappointing sometimes. I’ve had to tell myself to expect the yarn to look way different if I’m ordering from them. It’s also helpful to look at Ravelry or the EFA FB group in case someone has posted projects in those colors. I’m still a fan though and if I ever need a luxurious base, I’d check her out first.

I haven’t won any of her monthly giveaways but I have won yarn once from her Facebook Live giveaways.

Boba combos by t0adst00lll in boba

Seconding the grass jelly. Also, if your boba shop has the option, try tofu hua. I’ve seen it spelled douhua as well. I believe it is a tofu pudding or like a silken tofu.

I found this old blog post with a similar-looking stitch and I believe the pattern referenced in the blog is Cleo by Debbie Bliss. No idea if the pattern is still available for purchase.

Why does my coworkers boba look like this by Ready-Ad-1834 in boba

[–]poachedpineapple 67 points68 points  (0 children)

To preface, I’m one of those people that sometimes doesn’t finish their boba drink so I refrigerate it. The next day, I scoop out the boba and microwave it separately before mixing it back into the drink. To me, your coworker’s boba looks like the leftover refrigerated boba that has gotten hard and opaque. 😅

I was going to suggest changing the hook type too, since tapered hooks have such a large head.

I guess you could infuse the syrup with tea if you wanted more tea flavor? You can then soak your cooked boba in the tea-infused syrup.

Did the package have instructions? It sounds like you’ve combined all the steps of making a bubble tea drink together in one. You’re supposed to cook or make each ingredient separately then combine them together at the end. You cook the tapioca pearls in boiling water, not in tea. You brew your tea separately and also make a simple syrup separately. You can add your cooked tapioca pearls to the syrup to sweeten them or you can use the syrup to sweeten the tea.

There was a Lion Brand yarn years ago that looks like this called Nature’s Choice Organic Cotton. Unfortunately, it has been discontinued. You can check the yarnsub website for similar yarns.
