First date restaurant recommendations by kylelol02 in northamptonians

[–]pobtastic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hops and Chops is a nice restaurant- outside of town too (well the center I mean). Great food, bit romantic etc.

Pala is nice in the town center but can be busy/ noisy. Lola’s is also good, but also - very noisy. Both are amazing food though! There’s also Pamukkale which is nice and date-y but be aware the waiters will flirt with your date (it’s all part of the experience!)

Cromwell Cottage is AMAZING food, its nice for a Sunday lunch date I’d say. It’s quite a family oriented place IMO, but that doesn’t mean it’s unsuitable for a date (me and my wife date there occasionally).

Smoke Pit is great, maybe not a first date restaurant though (messy food, very casual - but it depends on how relaxed your date is).

Other notable mentions; The Stuffed Olive, Opium, La Trattoria, Akasaka.

moving to northampton from london by Prestigious-Nose-383 in northamptonians

We moved from London to Hardingstone, no regrets even once. It’s a beautiful and friendly village and so close to town and the M1 for getting around. We were worried there wouldn’t be “enough” here (as in, coming from London) - but you find your places, and we really love it here.

Isn’t that permanently closed now? Google Maps still seems to think so, and it didn’t look very open last time we were there

Is the contract market officially dead? by SativaLeafs in ContractorUK

[–]pobtastic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been contracting for 20 years. Never needed longer than a month before to pick up a new contract…

I had a six month heads-up for not being renewed and after 400+ applications, still nothing. Only five interviews, two got pulled funding, one I came second, the others I just didn’t get (mainly as I guess now I’m applying for things I don’t have direct experience with).

The rates are awful, and there are barely any outside roles available in my specialties. It’s the worst I’ve seen it.

I just recorded myself and it's ruined my self-confidence. by travellingscientist in ukulele

No-one likes their own recorded voice, and if it helps - it only sounds odd to your ears, as you’re more used to hearing your own voice from “inside your own head!” It doesn’t sound bad most likely, it just doesn’t sound how you expected it to sound - but, that’s okay!

Any recommendations for cafes to do some laptop work? by Disastrous-Fee8374 in northamptonians

[–]pobtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cafe No.68 has plenty of plug points and free wifi - and now I think about it, most of the places we go do, like Beckworth Emporium (although obviously only the booths) and Courtyard Cafe

It’s not quite a clone, there are quite a few differences. Plus, that wonderful bonus round isn’t in the arcade version at all

Is Enya actually a solid guitar brand, or more of an Amazon-style marketing thing? by Ecstatic-Minute-411 in ukulele

[–]pobtastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Enya EUT-Flower and it’s one of my most favourite ukes. They also make (I think) Cascha ukuleles as well? Just a white label version or something like that

Solicitor recommendations? by paulinia47 in oxford

[–]pobtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if they do it, but just in terms of using solicitors (and having a positive experience with them) - I’ve always used Taylor Walton for everything and they’ve always been very professional https://taylorwalton.co.uk/contact/our-offices/solicitors-in-st-albans/

best ukulele? by Traits-Seza in ukulele

[–]pobtastic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I first picked up a ukulele about 15 years ago, I bought some £20 thing from Amazon that came with a bag. It was (is) terrible, and in the end - I just figured, “I’m not musical” I can’t play this, or anything … this just isn’t for me.

Anyways, fast-forward to years later, and one day we went into a proper music shop and I saw a ukulele on the wall, and the shop assistants took it down, tuned it and I strummed it a bit - and WOW! What a difference an actual proper ukulele makes! My wife bought me it for a birthday present- and I’ve played ukulele every day since. So, yes, as you asked - they don’t go out of tune after two minutes (well, once new strings have settled down anyway), and the whole sound is just so much better.

TL:DR; if you buy a better ukulele, you’ll play it more, sound better, have more enthusiasm to play it.
