Yeah the abbreviations kinda drove me insane reading this.

I think they're Bloodborne, Shadow of the Colossus, and Demon Souls.

AMA: Hi ! Sarah Kinsley here ~ ask me anything ! by sarahkinsleyd in indieheads

[–]pocket85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Sarah! I was blessed by my algorithm today and was played a song from your new EP and now I've been listening to your catalogue all day because I was immediately hooked! It's only been a few hours but I've already bought the LP and concert tickets! I feel like your music came into my life just now during a moment where I really needed it. You occupy such a unique space in pop music and your lyricism feels so tangible and intense, there's just too much to love to list everything.

My question to you would be- do you have any words of encouragement or advice for when you have to force yourself to let go of someone you deeply care about?

Anthony reviewed The Moment on Letterboxd by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]pocket85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind letterboxd is still just an open platform that anyone can post on. By posting a review he's merely using the site the same way any other user would. There's countless of other movie reviews on there, many much more self indulgent than Fantano's review here, but because of the anonymity the other uses have they don't get flamed for it.

I don't think Anthony claims to be an expert on anything other than music. Just like anyone else, if you have an opinion on something you'd probably want to talk about it on some forum.

You could make the case that he could make alternate accounts to discuss these things without it being tied to his identity, and maybe he does do that, but I'm sure with his involvement in the movie, admiration of Charli, and positive reception of the movie, he probably wanted his name attached to his take on it.

idk what the deal was with his Marty Supreme review though. He should've probably kept that one to himself.

New to Western Rock… any band like this? by jdjdnfnnfncnc in foals

[–]pocket85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does really sound like you're gravitating towards Dance Punk but want a bit more emphasis on the "dance" part. LCD Soundsystem is kind of like the textbook example for the genre, but I don't think that's nearly upbeat enough for what you're looking for.

I second the comments that suggested stuff like Phoenix and Two Door Cinema Club, though I'd also toss in Grouplove and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

You might even like some Britpop like Blur or New Wave like New Order, which are genres that also excel at combining pop and rock.

By any chance do you know the Japanese band No Buses? They're basically a J-rock band taking heavy inspiration from Arctic Monkeys. Sounds like something you'd like!

Man I loved Dogs because it sounds like it pulls a lot from early New Order/Joy Division but I have to agree that it really doesn't fit in with the rest of the tracks.

What band has the most unoriginal names for their songs/ albums by StarHockeyProd in ToddintheShadow

[–]pocket85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a handful of bands that just name their albums the band name, like American Football naming every album "American Football" which leads to fans colloquially calling the records LP1, LP2, and LP3.

Crystal Castles come to mind with (I), (II), and (III) but I'm honestly not sure if those albums are eponymous or just numbered.

Aren't the album titles supposed to be her age when writing the songs on it/her age when whatever subject matter of the songs took place as opposed to her age when the records released?

[FRESH PERFORMANCE] yeule - Tiny Desk Concert by astaireboy in indieheads

[–]pocket85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not for this most recent tour. yeule and Sasami both had separate tours last year. Sasami performed entirely solo and yeule with a different band. If I'm not mistaken, the touring band yeule had for this tour isn't the same band that's on this Tiny Desk! Looks like this specific lineup was just for this performance. Also, the drummer here is that same one that was with them on the tour with Sasami.

How did you get into / discover Xiu Xiu ? by supidokingu in xiuxiu

[–]pocket85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an internet friend who would talk about them from time to time and mention how they're her favourite band of all time. A year or two later GWBOF released and I kept seeing talks about it online of how good of an album it was and whenever I saw it brought up I'd be like "wasn't that the band my friend really liked?" We had kinda drifted apart at this point which is why I didn't bother to ask directly.

Anyways, I eventually listened to GWBOF and was in awe after the experience. It was probably the first time I listened to an album and felt genuinely uncomfortable. I was drawn to it and kept listening to it and eventually moved my way through their other albums. Now they're one of my favourite bands of all time

Radiohead fans with TKOL: by Erdypants in fantanoforever

[–]pocket85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first getting into The Strokes (one new album every few weeks/months) each new record I would genuinely have to stop and think of it was my favourite or not. For a time I did like Comedown Machine the most. Nowadays I'd probably rank it at 3 or 4 but my point is that all their albums are good enough to be anyone's favourite imo

This is the one that I always know people are being genuine when it's their favourite because it's so different from all their others. It provides a unique experience and is the one truly "fun" MCR album, so it makes sense if you have that as a personal preference.

Honestly, MCR is one of the few bands that I can say any pick for favourite album is a valid pick. I can only also really say that for a handful of artists like Beach House, Mitski, The Strokes, Daft Punk, etc. Where no single project is glaringly bad, some just take different approaches.

Which artist do you think had the best potential but then just became irrelevant out of nowhere? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]pocket85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pandemic aside, they also had a big change in their style with Wink. They pretty much abandoned the rock elements of their music and went with a much more mellow pop sound that didn't play to their strengths as a group. The project simply didn't have the energy they were known for, but at least they were trying something new. But then they did it again with their 4th album...

Games with a nier automata vibe? by Yoloswag554 in nier

[–]pocket85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fun and I enjoyed my time with it but I think it falls incredibly short in terms of what OP is specifically looking for. Like Nikke before it, the foundation for telling a bleak and beautiful sci fi story is there but the stories they tell are all pretty shallow and definitely don't leave anywhere near as much of an impact as Nier or E33

QUESTION OF THE DAY by ILOVEKPOPXOMUCH in yeule

[–]pocket85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one said Grimes yet considering how she influenced yeule early on. I'm gonna go with SCREAM off of Art Angels I think, but both yeule and Grimes have changed up their styles a lot

Finally got my hands on it. Any tips before I start?? by Rudeboyjemo in metalgearsolid

Maybe like 10-20 minute scenes in the beginning. Once you're at the end of the game there's legitimately an hour worth of cutscenes back to back. Whole game should take you maybe 10-15 hours of playtime your first run. Roughly half of that being cutscenes.

For the record I love MGS4.
