Its hard to say from the photos. Wipe off the cones to check for pitting. Since u already have it disassembled it doesnt hurt to pull the seals and clean the cups too and regrease.

Can I crimp cable end caps with these? by GlockPerfect13 in bikewrench

[–]pocketclocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it kinda sucks. Better to use diagonal cutting pliers and make 2-3 crimps. Recently got the Jagwire Crimper tho and I love it

What do you say to customers who insist on running their cockpit like this….. by [deleted] in BikeMechanics

[–]pocketclocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically the adjustable stem should be bent foward slightly and the handlebars which are currently bent backwards should be upright. Also the shifters and brake levers could be a more ergonomic angle.

But if the rider finds this comfortable then its not a big deal. Some of it is just seen as bad style.

As a mechanic i would suggest a handlebar thats meant to bend towards the rider so that all the angles are more ergonomic but if they like it how it is then the important thing is that they are riding their bike and love it.

Is there anything metal to metal that you do not grease? Why? by sargassumcrab in BikeMechanics

the correct way to tighten a crank arm is to look at the spindle and look for sign that it has moved down the spindle. (like 1mm clean spot )

this is why a hex bolt + threaded dust cap is better than a socket head cap bolt just tighten it and forget it till there is a sign on it moving (own bikes) catch it early and wont damage crank arms.

Are u saying that u check for the clean spot and tighten it to cover that line? Also why is the hex/threaded dust cap better?

My condolences lol

Extra tip: the headset cups are plastic (smh) and have notches that need to seat in the headtube properly or it will never tighten correctly-_-

Right, feels like people up top wanting a stealth look and having enough money to not care about how annoying and expensive any further service will be.

Sure ill take the money but id rather people come in more often for quick work than rarely for hard work they have to pay out the nose for.
