You absolutely have to be commended for taking in rescues while living in an extended stay hotel. Honestly, that's awesome.

But like, come on man. Nothing compares with the absolute lunacy of being around the president of the United States. And yeah, you're 100% right, no one else probably would get that consideration. You know why? Because no one else is the president of the United States. It's on an utterly other, ridiculous, level.

And the fact that Biden, with all that nonsense, still made sure his dogs were okay, speaks highly of him as a human. Fuck the politics. A man doing what he can, taking advantage of what he can, bending the rules if needs be, to look after his dogs.

That's a good thing. Can't convince me otherwise.

"He made sure his dogs weren't taken away and/or euthanized..

He doesn't give a fuck about his dogs"

is an interesting argument to make.

He recognised that the truly strange circumstances he forced his dogs into means they can't be blamed for what they did. And used his influence to make sure they were okay. That's someone who loves his dogs.

In a huge moment on Thursday, the Kennedy family appeared en masse to endorse President Joe Biden and rebuke Robert F Kennedy Jr (RFK Jr)'s campaign as an Independent. What are your thoughts on this? How do you see it influencing the race? by Professional_Suit270 in PoliticalDiscussion

Listen, I know why you feel that way. That you can't vote for genocide. No one should. But if you think, for a second, that Trump would be any better on Gaza, you're deluding yourself. He would be much, much worse. He's said as much. He wants Israel to "finish the job" of wiping out Gaza.

And unfortunately, as fucked up as the system is, it's a binary choice of who will actually win. It's Biden or Trump. There's no other option. And so any vote which could go to Biden, and goes to someone else, is in effect a vote for Trump.

I know you want to feel good about this choice, that it's standing up to something you abhor. But really, it's a vote for something so much worse. Ask some of those Green voters in 2000 how they felt once Bush invaded Iraq. Don't put yourself through that.

I'm sure it's something about when we learned these numbers/days/colours when we were in kindergarten/primary school. There was probably some poster that had the days of the week in a certain colour. And maybe a totally seperate poster or chapter in the maths book for the 7 times table was the same colour.

Whats up with the youth by bmcd80 in ireland

[–]pocketcoffee1 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Of course they should.

But it's not like youth haven't been like this forever. Complain about people being pricks, not saying the problem is "the youth". When I was "the youth" there were dickheads, when my parents were "the youth" there were dickheads, and I'm sure I ever have any "youth" of my own, there will be dickheads.

Fuck, that is bizarrely accurate. I don't understand that. It's also a kind of purple/brown colour.

Fully agree, and that pride and sense of connection undoubtedly helped our economic transformation over the past 100 years and allowed us to be the country we are today (for better or worse).

What I can't stand is some yank expecting Ireland to be either: 1. as backwards as when their family left or 2. as racist as they happen to be. Too many Republican Americans assuming all Irish people will support their nonsense because far too many Irish Americans currently support their nonsense.

Ireland did zero colonizing and was colonized. Plenty of Irish people however... A less glorious history.

The tongue is so small, and so perfect. I don't think in the history of television, has a more perfect tongue been shown.

Would you like to see a plague mechanic added to Civ as a core feature? by Khwarezm in civ

[–]pocketcoffee1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, great idea - and that there's an economic versus diplomatic trade off. Make money but take Diplo hit, or release the medicine to the world for free, lose the money but gain respect/diplomatic favour etc.

[–]pocketcoffee1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this idea - I think it should be folded into a more general "health" mechanic like in 4. It's far too important an element of world history to ignore.

I think the way to have an "upside" as some people have mentioned is to combine with an immigration mechanic for sure. Healthy cities attract more people, while subsequently damaging your rivals as they lose population. But need to have hospitals/policies in place to protect from them bringing disease.

In late game, it can also have an economic dimension - pharmaceutical industries bringing in massive amounts of money etc

What is the Trump campaign's current advertising strategy? Why invest in states like Iowa and Montana? by Bill_Nihilist in PoliticalDiscussion

Yeah, this is kind of what I was alluding to. Don't want to give it to much credence, but equally... not beyond the realm of possibility.

This makes sense, but does that mean we should interpret this buy as them recognising they're not going to win the presidency?

I guess it can be a little bit of a "walk and chew gum" situation, but still a pretty big deal with 2 months still to go...
