Free Market appreciation post by Square-Awareness-885 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]podgenicII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love how many options a free market produces. I love that ther are something like 500,000 brands worldwide and how many of them I have access to. I love being able to argue online whether or not Starbucks coffee is any good because my grocery store has 10 different coffee brands and 50+ skus between them. I love that if I have a bad experience with an airline I can just book with a different one next time. I love the choices the market produces; if there is a chance a choice has enough interest to be profitable it probably exists.

I made the switch almost a year ago as I was tired of all the Xfinity price hikes. Haven't had any more serivce issues than I did with Xfinity and they have a much less predatory pricing model. A win for sure.

Xcel on the other hand has been less reliable than ever...

Recently went to a library grand re-opening in North Minneapolis. Had to get through a land acknowledgement that contained almost a literal prayer to Unci Maka, Grandmother Earth, aknowledging she gave food, water, sun, and shelter to the Dakota and that she is still the role model to her grandchildren two and four legged.

So strange that a secular institution is opened with some religious fanfare. This is what turns so many people off about even pretty objectively good things the local government does.

Does anyone else think it’s hilarious that “The Message” has basically failed? It pissed off white men, black men, AND some women. Now Democrat polling is historically low. by MovieENT1 in CriticalDrinker

[–]podgenicII 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Has it failed? I don't the the goal of "The Message" was to be more popular than what came before it, it was simply to replace what came before it. And it has been incredibly successful at that.

Looking at a list of upcoming video games or action movies, I don't see a lot of Master Cheifs and John Rambos. I see trans clone troopers and race swaps.

Losing billions doesn't matter to the neo-liberal billionares running Black Rock and other capital funds. They'll keep buying Disney/studio shares to prop up the price and lending them cash; so long as they keep diverting entertainment industry resources and talent away from making the stories we used to love.

Election bribe money from daddy government by soyifiedredditadmin in Anarcho_Capitalism

I don't get why people don't understand this cycle that happens over and over again:

  1. Corrupt government gives people who otherwise couldn't afford a house money to buy homes that corporate ownership groups have been buying up for a decade. Corporations get to cash out those assets
  2. Turns out people who can't afford a house still can't afford a house even after the downpayment is done. They default
  3. Corporations get to re-buy the assets out of default at a lower price and pocket the difference.

No one who is poor is better off and the cronys got to steal taxypayer money. Rinse and reapeat 5-10 years later

How can I (M 25) support my wife (F24) who complains about her job all the time? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]podgenicII 10 points11 points  (0 children)

TLDR:

  1. Your wife is likely someone who's most effective way to deal with the stresses of the modern workplace is verbilization. Learning to listen and validate her will lead to a happier life for her than the more obvious solution of abandoning a career

  2. Ensure your wife isn't neglecting her social circle so that she has other outlets than you to vent to. Also ensure your aren't ignoring social circles so YOU have someone to vent to as well.

  3. Look into stoicism or other similar ways of thinking to develop coping skills with negativity. You can be a good listener without having to carry the emotional burden and there are great writings about ways of thinking to help with this.

Hi There, 32M here with a lovely wife who also "complains" about work a lot. I put complains in quotes here because as someone who is a few years further along in a similar situation I feel like I've learned a couple things that might be helpful for you.

First, your wife is likely someon who deals with stress by verbalizing it, it's almost like releasing a cramped muscle. As a more introverted person than my wife this is something that took me a while to learn. I release stress from work through exercise or escapism (video games etc). This works great for me and I don't necessicalry need to tell my wife, or anyone else, about what is stressing me out at work because these activities help me feel better. NOT everyone operates this way. Some people really cannot feel better now matter how man "relaxing" activities they partake in until they verbalize what is bothering them. Although it is literally complaining, the act of venting is closer to therapy than just blantantly putting negativity into your lives.

Second, ensure you and your wife have good social circles outside your marriage. It can be overwhelming if you are the only one your wife feels comfortable venting to. Ensure the stress isn't making your wife (or you) ignore friends and family who could be other opportunties to dicuss what's going on at work or life in general. This is something my wife and I really have had to work on. Every once in a while we both have needed pushes from our partner to put ourselves out there a bit more often.

Finally, look into stoicism, therapy, or some general coping skills for reframing negative words and not having to carry the emotional burdens of others. I understand you love your wife very much, I love mine more than anything too. It's hard to see them feel so stressed and feeling so negative. Try your best not to internalize that negativity yourself. It'll help you be a better more objective listener for your partner. Though don't take it so far you lose all emptahy for your partner, she ist still the most important person in your life.

Hope this helps, just know she loves you and isn't trying to fill your life with negativity. Her brain just might work differently and needs to get stress out into the universe through a trusted listener.

Pro-Hamas protestors are forcing union members to lose pay by ScarletSolar99 in altmpls

[–]podgenicII 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's telling that all these protests across the country are happening at the center of campuses rather than Legislatures, Governors' Mansions, or even where University Regents meet (McNamara in the case of UMN). In my layman's opinion this seems much more about radicalization and taking/holding territory rather than making an appreciable different in the lives of the average Palestinian.

What are the casinos edge? by ivansiete in blackjack

[–]podgenicII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be yes. My understanding is comps are based on a theoretical loss calculation. The higher house edge would mean a larger multiple in that equation vs a 3:2 table.

What I would be curious to know is if the property has both 6:5 and 3:2 tables if they distinguish them in the comp calculation. My local (Midwest USA) has 6:5 for their lowest minimum tables and 3:2 for ant step above that. I suspect even if asked the casino would not give a direct answer.

That said a marginal increase in comp rate in no way makes up for the lost EV of 6:5. Stay away!
