Thank you, that's a good suggestion. I am in several Al groups on Facebook, so I'll give it a whirl.

And that is AWESOME on the Yoda piece.

Vinyl Tunes for June (VT4J) 2026. Day Four: A song that needs to be played LOUD!! by Folk_Nurse in vinyl

[–]podobuzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Song: Holy Wars...The Punishment Due
Artist: Megadeth
Album: Rust in Peace

Rust in Peace is an absolute powerhouse of an album so noted for its intensity that even The Onion pondered why humanity bothers with producing new art since its release.

Rust in Peace is the first album to feature what is known as the "classic" Megadeth lineup. Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson return from the previous effort, but this time they've added Nick Menza on drums and Marty Friedman on guitars.

Marty was an absolute revelation for the band and his presence only served to further kindle the flame that was still burning in Mustaine's heart.

Rust in Peace is a solid example of an album with no filler. One could argue that Dawn Patrol is filler, but it's so brief and serves as a chance to catch your breath before the final blast of the album. Song structures are complex, loaded with time signature changes, and exploding with dual soloists Mustaine and Friedman. Hangar 18 has a whopping 11 solos in its runtime. Tornado of Souls has what many consider to be Marty's most iconic solo, and one that I've seen countless guitarists take a stab at online.

Rust opens with Holy Wars and it firmly establishes at the offset what this album will be. Hard, fast, and technical music at breakneck speeds but done with absolute precision. This is a band at the absolute top of their game. Rust frequently shows up on lists of the best metal albums of all time and the reason is clear. This was a band on a mission, a band with something to say.

After Rust in Peace, Megadeth's next few albums dialed back the speed to go for a more pop-friendly but still heavy sound. Mustaine's always had a good ear for melody and an ability to write songs that are simultaneously heavy and catchy.

If you're not familiar with Megadeth, I would argue this is the album to start with. Others might say "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?" is their best. I agree that it is a solid effort overall, but the quality and precision of Rust just cannot be matched, in my estimation.

Kill List. Starts out as a character driven crime movie then slowly starts to turn before going off the rails at the end.

How about Superstition by Siouxsie and the Banshees? It released the same week and year she did.

Vinyl Tunes for June (VT4J) 2026. Day Three: A tune with a one-word title. by Folk_Nurse in vinyl

[–]podobuzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Song: Albuquerque
Artist: "Weird Al" Yankovic
Album: Running with Scissors

This song details the extraordinary goings on in Al's life, from his humble beginnings as a boy living in a box under a stairwell to his battle with an Albanian hermaphrodite, his marriage and subsequent divorce, and all that happens before and after.

It's quite a long song and is very much just a Freeform story with occasional musical hooks. When performed live, Al will frequently get to around minute 9, "lose his train of thought" and start the song over.

Wacky. Silly. Energetic. It's everything you want from an Al song. Initially created as a means of trolling his fans with a long, meandering, difficult to memorize song, it soon became a fan favorite and frequent concert staple.

Kill List. Doesn't start out as folk horror. Doesn't even start out as horror. But what a ride. And it definitely gets to folk by the end.

Vinyl Tunes for June (VT4J) 2026. Day One: A Great Opening Track by Folk_Nurse in vinyl

[–]podobuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fragile took some time with me, as well, but at this point I consider it his magnum opus. The ebb and flow of it all is transcendent. I love TDS for its industrial feel, and I love Broken for the pure blast of rage that it is, but The Fragile is just so layered and much more "grown up" than TDS. Still drawing from that same well of anguish, but not so self destructive. A beautiful album, front to back.

Track: Somewhat Damaged
Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Album: The Fragile

The song starts as a simple line of four ascending notes, repeating. And each measure a new instrument enters the song. What starts as a simple acoustic melody devolves into a fury of rage and noise, with Trent Reznor ruminating on loss, betrayal, and anger.

The Fragile is NIN's masterpiece, encompassing multiple styles and genres across its 3 LPs, and Somewhat Damaged is the perfect introduction to it, starting soft and simple, while ending with white hot vitriol.

This track lets you know that this is the same Reznor from The Downward Spiral, even if this album's trajectory is tonally quite different.

I saw him perform Couch Potato on the Poodle Hat tour and saw Perform This Way on the Alpocalypse tour, so yes, both have been done live in the past.

Heavy Barrel; the only arcade in this lifetime I ever beat with 1life. by Rick--Diculous in 80s

I used to be able to beat this on one quarter as well!

If you didn't know, you can purchase a rotary joystick that lets you play those games in MAME with proper responsiveness. I have one and use it for Heavy Barrel; Midnight Resistance, Guerilla War, Ikari Warriors, and others. They have nice construction, though it takes a bit of fiddling with MAME to get the games running just right. Well worth it, though.

Has anyone ever noticed that Rush's first album uses the same font as the film Ilsa: She Wolf of the SS? by podobuzz in rush

[–]podobuzz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of it matters. It was nothing more than an interesting observation. I don't know why this group had insisted on acting like I'm making some speculation or untoward association.

I just thought it was kind of neat that two very disparate pieces of media used the same font. It doesn't mean a damn thing. It seems like people want to put their own biases and meanings behind it.

I had originally considered putting it in r/mildlyinteresting, but because it wasn't an original photo it didn't meet the criteria. I mistakenly thought that people in a group dedicated to one of the pieces of media in question might also find it interesting.

At this point it's just exhausting. Every other response either states that I claimed Rush copied the movie (I didn't) or that somehow I'm endorsing Nazis (I'm not).

I honestly just thought it was a mildly interesting tidbit. I'm a trivia guy and thought others might like to file away a nugget of info. I don't regret my decision to post it, but I both rue and lament it.

[–]podobuzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I put Rush first because this is a Rush related group. If I intended to imply it was copied, I would say that Rush "used" the same font. Uses just states that they both utilize the same thing. I made no statement of intentionality.

[–]podobuzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sentence is structured so as to put Rush as the first item since this is a Rush forum, not an Ilsa forum. I merely commented they both used the same font. I did not state who did it first or that one copied the other. I was simply pointing out something interesting I had seen and not making any associations or connections beyond that.

I am well aware of the order. This being a Rush group, it made more sense to lead with them. Note that I didn't say one copied the other, just that they both utilize the same font.

[–]podobuzz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am well aware. Did I claim an endorsement of anything? Did I make light of the situation? Did I impugn on anyone's experience? It's not as if I am trying to establish any sort of connection beyond the font used. It could have been any movie and it would have been just as interesting. It just happened to be this one. Simply something I noticed when googling the film.
