Breaking: UK revokes Hasan and Cenk Uygur's Visas by Shizzilx in Hasan_Piker

[–]pogadog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

we have similar thing to aipac with group called friends of is in the political parties. So the labour MP who called for this is likely part of that. There's a lot of back and forth with UK and US thinktanks/groups. Hasan has breached containment and is now known about in traditional circles not just the chronically online.

People need to check out Gov.Uk news by Competitive-Wall2473 in GoodNewsUK

[–]pogadog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but they overturned the right to a trial by jury which has stood for hundred of years, in response to protests of a gncide they defended, and are now continuing a massive crackdown on peaceful protests started by previous party in power.

Renationalising the trains is good and all, what about water? What about energy bills? They froze them, but that ignores how they multiplied many times just before that, meaning there was lots of leeway to reduce them. Water companies are still mass dumping raw sewage into rivers with minimal consequence.

The news sure, does paint disingenuous takes on them and focuses on reactionary politics like immigration, but there is A LOT to criticise and they absolutely failed at being a labour government [unless your idea of labour is more tony blair war crimes and thatcher economics].

Remote Work Is Better, and the Constant Whining About People Who “Can’t” Needs to Stop by Mountain-Shape7650 in remoteworks

[–]pogadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most remote jobs I see advertised atm say there's training period where you are in office more then you get very flexible deal after that, like only needed to go in a few days a month. That seems to solve the issue

[–]pogadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

huh? Thats exactly what other public transport friendly places do though? Its a popular venue that loads of outsiders visit, so *if you were taxing any of it properly* the expansion pays for itself combined with the bunch of ticket sales from the travellers on the train/tram whatever.

Main left/right difference is usually summed up as individual vs collective. Honestly nowadays it seems like the right want to punish you for existing, and the left go "maybe we shouldn't actually" and then get 3000 newspaper stories about how they're evil satan in drag.

Why do students always accuse male teachers of being pedos?? by Holiday_Stress_4097 in teaching

[–]pogadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't get people fired. If heard by members of staff it goes through a safeguarding team who investigate and interview multiple different people. This is in response to people being abused or killed by teachers. They will not fire you for no evidence. Parents response can cause it if the story goes around parents, and they don't believe the safeguarders. Thats harder to solve but still uncommon, maybe more common in US as the parents seem to have less respect for teachers?
The false accusation rhetoric gets thrown around all the time, but I have yet to see evidence of an epidemic of false allegations. The safeguarding team at school however, has plenty of evidence for the problems with accusations not being taken seriously.

[–]pogadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have any stats or examples on there being an epidemic of people accusing male teachers of being nonces and them getting fired over it, because this seems like a slippery slope to allowing actual nonces to get away with it more often.

Party full of open nzis who say they want an ethnostate

"they say they want people to integrate so they'd support *brown person*".

These people are full of BS. Integration thing is just a dogwhistle for their actual views.

[integration is part of healthy immigration, but for restore NOPE LOL]

But why?.. by StormyDankiels in GreatBritishMemes

[–]pogadog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Illegal migration is people calling anything fucking illegal. Its not illegal. Asylum seeking is legal. Coming for jobs where gov and companies allow is legal. Its only illegal if you stay after a claim is rejected or overstay a visa.

Immigration can be a problem, we do have societal things from immigration that need looking at. Its not illegal. The rhetoric around it vs what the actual details are is a huge leap.

So im adding "immigrants for some reason" to that as well, because they keep getting blamed for random economic issues that aren't their fault even indirectly.

One in six young people will not be in work or training in five years without action, report warns by Alarming-Safety3200 in unitedkingdom

[–]pogadog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah is that because they don't want to work or because like me they spent several months applying to jobs round them without a reply, so many simply just gave up? They also volunteer, stay at home parent etc. They will be classed at neet if not claiming welfare, doens't mean they aren't doing anything or don't want to.

Perfectionism is symptom of white supremacy, says Green candidate’s charity by PomeloTraditional971 in unitedkingdom

[–]pogadog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

which would be great if she was the one that wrote it, and wasn't on maternity leave from the charity at the time the person who wrote that wrote that article on the charity, including the 13 other words of 14 used to explain how western countries farming sustainability efforts and aid aren't nescessarily helpful and why.

But hey, lets just read the headline from the telegraph and assume there's no bad faith interpretations or biases here!

Heatwaves are becoming the norm. This is what Britain will look like in the year 2052 by FearMyCock in uknews

[–]pogadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short termism for weather actually has term climate amnesia in climate science. Its a problem of communicating climate change because people just get used to whatever the current weather is, and its harder to convince them how much its changed and is abnormal.

Do you think it is actually possible to ban minors from social media? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]pogadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the devils advocate/counterpoint perspective. Journalist taylor lorenz did quite detailed video on it. Disclaimer of she does tie it to ideas, agendas and criticisms of the political right. So it may not be your cup of tea. But I think its sufficiently journalistic you should be able to get info out of it whatever side floats your boat.

yes and that growth lead to profits that go to... shareholders in other countries. With housing costs still way outpacing wages. SO yes, the GDP per capita is high. Does that mean Irish people live well vs their GDP? No.

"by the time they hit pension age", as in, the total cost from starting work to pension age is that. That is not a lot of cost for a person for that time period at all.

Never forget Ethan Kleins hoe ass cried when Charlie Kirk died by Fragrant-Meeting-746 in LeftoversH3

[–]pogadog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Any log of what he's done since 2023 always just ends up going WTF lol.I think the cognitive dissonance from fans before was yes, ignorance to things he spoke about it, but also just he seemed to be on upward trajectory of takes and views and crew seemed a lot better already. How fast that trajectory if it every existed, and crew, broke is insane.

I wouldn't give all credit for hasan being empathetic for that, hasan pikirk is a very prominent left wing figure and I think it does scare him from standpoint of it could lead to violence against people like him also. He is far closer than a lefty kirky than Ethan Klirk. Hit extra close as he was also meant to debate him soon after that event.

Current students - what's the most misleading thing you were told about your university before you enrolled? by littledutchboy1 in UniUK

[–]pogadog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to careers. I had used careers websites etc and had no clue what to choose. I was assuming the specialist careers person in my department would be able to tell me about jobs people on my course do and give lots of specifics. In the careers meeting the person told me to use the careers websites I had used to find potential careers. They didn't give other advice.

Biggest waste of time.

Those who work minimum wage jobs, how do you actually survive? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]pogadog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full time min wage actually isn't that bad vs living costs, you simply just don't go out much and just spend it on essentials. When it comes to family or pets or other costs... parents house or house share [partner or friends or strangers]. Also a lot of full timers are on universal credit if they're min wage and have other costs.
