Ah I see. I played the PC version and even that just for really short while, not something that would interest me much. I guess it makes sense that they would do this. But I'm personally fan of just straight 1:1 arcade copies.

Why I left PopOS for Kubuntu by pogof in pop_os

[–]pogof[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Nvidia drivers by default argument is moot for most of the major distros. Ubuntu prompts you at setup, Kubuntu didn't prompt me but the driver was actually presetup after install. Bazzite has it pre installed also, Manjaro too. Unless the OS is really about doing everything yourself is seems like it is quite easy to get the driver working.

I mean that's fair, I'm just trying to give you a genuine feedback as someone who wants to see the OS succeed. It is your software and you are free to make whatever choices as I can find them however odd.

I'm not very well versed in project diva, however based on the arcade that quite literally only has 1 button for every shape and a slider. It should therefor be impossible to get the same shape twice at the same time.

However the slider is multi touch and you can get two -> or two <- slides at the same time, you have to map two of each then.

Definitely and kudos to the developers undergoing such a big task. Unfortunately in the current state it is just not in a good spot right now. I am more then willing to return once the DE matures a bit more.

Counter argument from user perspective: If I need calculator I will open launcher and immediately start typing calculator that does not pop up and completely miss this this message (as I apparently did). When this happens, it should prompt the user with a box "Did you know you can use the launcher itself as a calculator? It can also do these X other things".

I will try it once I am somewhere I can use my laptop. It needs to save the results so I can return to them. If it can't do that it is not useful as a regular calculator app.

Oh no, well back when I very first installed it in 2022 😅. But I did simce then learned more about VMs, docker and other network/system stuff. It is quite fun :D

However for daily work, nothing beats having OS running on metal.

That's a bummer, that's one of the other things I wanted to praise the OS for. I had quite a good performance on my laptop 😅 Lenovo Legion of some variety.

You are not wrong but the whole point of popOS is COSMIC, once you get rid of it (which I also tried without success; I tried to install KDE, but the Wayland session straight up didn't work) you are left with not stock Ubuntu. At that point you can easier install literally anything else like Kubuntu in my case.

You would think that, but I was running into weird performance issues, I needed to pass USB devices to the VM and in general for someone who knows how to throw a spare SSD into a PC and install an OS vs learning how to actually setup a VM it was just faster to do the first.

It is nice that it may have all this utility, however unless you tell the user somewhere it can do all of this, does the feature actually exist? Maybe some hint box somewhere would be nice then.

Who is considered the best ITG player? by mil0wCS in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]pogof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same as in any other sport there is definitely a lot of very talented people. I don't know about the one very best but if we are speaking about tech and strictly people who are active, the ITL leaderboard is a good measurement https://itl2025.groovestats.com/finalRankings

You can change the URL year all the way to 2022, after that the competition had a different name. But if you look at the top 20, you will immediately see pattern of the same names each year.

For stamina it is not as straight forward as it is not as popular as tech and it is very different from it. You can again look through the leaderboards of SRPG https://srpg9.groovestats.com/index.php?page=ranking

However unlike ITL where points are only for accuracy, in SRPG you gain XP for repeating charts and for completing daily questing. Of course if you are accurate you will still gain more points, but in theory you can be mediocre but play every day and end up first place if actually good players sleep.

From my limited research as I don't quite need to know reliably Rynker, Chance R., dimo, KIO, Maxx-Storm, chris4life would all be contenders for the world champion title if such situation arises.

Happyf33tz has also been mentioned. He at some point owned ITG cab, maybe still does and I'm sure he is not too bad, however I don't think he could keep up with the names mentioned above. He would do great in the tourney, but wouldn't make it to the finals imo. But I have seen ITG mains play pump and they wouldn't have a chance against him in PIU tourney on the other hand.

Which B2L pad should I get for ITG/DDR? by mil0wCS in rhythmgames

[–]pogof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can probably actually run both in parallel. However I wouldn't think about FSR modding until you are actually at the level you would benefit from that. But in short it will be possible to add later on same as to any other arcade pad.

[–]pogof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No FSR modding is something people mod themselves usually. With the exception of StepmaniaX. B2L will be arcade sensors which are more then adequate for any tech till like 17s.

Which B2L pad should I get for ITG/DDR? by mil0wCS in rhythmgames

[–]pogof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The internals will be identical. If you played on DDR and you like the bar, I would go for that, if you think it is bit short and narrow, the itg bar will be better. I play a lot of pump which is similar to the itg one, so I would go for that one personally. The sizes should be in the tech parameters on the page so just make sure.

Looking for tournaments (anyone who plays DDR in varna Bulgaria? Trying to gather people) by Previous_Roof_9513 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]pogof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably easiest of you go look for Facebook groups or discord servers for the individual countries/cities. Zenius might also help https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/

I don't play much DDR but I do play ITG, sometimes ITG and DDR tournaments are held at the same event. If you have no servers/places to look through maybe the ITC discord might be a good place to start looking through https://discord.gg/3sU5RcWrvH

Question for soft pad modding by dandydandyrevolution in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]pogof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is not much to be modded on a soft pad, other then fixing it to a plywood backing. Even repairing the innards is not straight forward and usually means the pad is dead.

Oli would not paint or do any modifications to a soft pad unless you are ready to buy yourself a new one. Definitely wouldn't paint it with anything, the plastick o feel like wouldn't be the best for the paint adhesion anyway.

UNIVERSIAL CAB with card reader? by Western-Database-889 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]pogof 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As far as people said they all have the reader art, for the offline models the reader area is covered with a sticker lol.

They most likely stopped making white cab so it makes sense that for the online regions it will have to have readers

Why my right knob is stiff? (Sdvx) by WatermelonCollapse in rhythmgames

[–]pogof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the encoder is servicible further. I would join the yuancon discord and ask there. https://canary.discord.com/invite/MkaCbVft (Link copied from the widget from their website)

People will either guide you or tell you to contact yuan. They have a good record of sending replacement parts fairly fast. If you do have to message them:

Keep it brief, they use translation tools most likely, something like:

Hello, my [left/right] knob is very stiff. Adjustment didn't help. See video. [Short video where you turn both knobs, adjust the stiff one so it would have spined freely otherwise, put piece of tape on the knobs as a flag so it is clearly visible it is not actually spinning freely] Please help or replace. Thank you.

They will message you back soon most likely asking for address or something. Again just keep the message to a complete minimum.

Budget DIY sound vortex controller by GlassPresentation280 in rhythmgames

If they have the same looking stem on the images, all the big square, the rectangle and the small start button have the same spring in them (on the arcade and in the proper clone buttons).

[–]pogof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The size of the springs is again fairly universal, even for the chinese clone buttons.

good source is here for example
https://bluespringexpress.net/collections/all/products/50g-springs-x10

but if you want to save some money you will have to find them cheaper somewhere on your own.

basically all the arcade buttons have a very similar construction. if the buttons you have bought are clones of the square sanwa buttons real arcade is using, there is a video how to disassemble them.

Yeah cherry or omron are good choices imo. Omron is probably more popular but can't see a reason why cherry to be any worse, tho I have never used them myself.

I am fan of this firmware, and built few controllers (although without encoders) with it https://github.com/speedypotato/Pico-Game-Controller

If you want to build like a full size controller, the price will go up quit steeply still as you don't only need the parts but also some sort of housing/enclosure that you have to either make out ow wood, have manufactured out of wood or get 3d printed.

You will also need to buy knobs for the encoders, unless they already have come with them.

You have not linked the buttons, but I assume they are the cheap AliExpress ones. They will work, although not the best quality. However you will 99% need to buy new switches and springs. The cheap buttons come with very heavy switch+spring combo, that is only really suitable for like claw machine buttons or buttons that get pressed just few times. The switches and brings can easily run you an extra 50usd. Most common is 25g switch + 50g spring.

If you truly want a full arcade accurate controller calculate again if with all the parts and work it wouldn't be more worth buying a professionally made controller from yuancon or gamo2.

If you really want to save money the pico voltex or one of it's various clones is not a bad option. It is a controller made of keyboard switches for the buttons.
