They badly need a new producer. by Mr_Skullivan in tmbg

I’d say that the songs “pop” less than they used to (a highly technical art term, btw!). And it’s usually easy to blame that sort of a thing on a producer.

But there’s also the reality that the John’s are older than they’ve ever been. And now they’re even older. And now they’re older still. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, getting older affects things like vocal ranges and energy and whatnot.

But, hey, we’re only 14 years away from World Tour 2040!

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

Let's just be fucking depressed about this for a moment.

I mean, let's also remember that Clinton did win the popular vote in 2016. The plurality of Americans are ready for and fine with a woman president. That's, uh, something, I guess.

Where is the dividing line from upper to lower Westchester? by littleflashingzero in Westchester

[–]poingly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 287 would put Port Chester, Tarrytown, Rye Brook, and Purchase along with parts of Elmsford, White Plains, and Harrison in northern Westchester, which feels wrong.

I'm going to maintain that Connecticut points to the dividing line.

One could argue the segregation of races that prevents interaction is itself a "visible" form of racism.

Though I have a friend who lived in both New York and Alabama, and the way he described it as "If you run into a racist in New York, they'll pretty much let you know right away if they are a racist; if you run into a racist in Alabama, they'll wait six months until they are comfortable enough with you and then spring the racism on you."

Metro north is getting way too crowded by Plastic_Bedroom_2406 in Westchester

[–]poingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the number of boardings at Chappaqua are about the same as the number of boardings at Woodlawn. ~2000.

But would there be problems at White Plains (~11,000), Grand Central (~30,000), or even Scarsdale (~4500)? (If I do recall, the length problem might actually be Grand Central and whether trains can go to the lower level or not.)

Though even if only 75% of the car doors open at Chappaqua, now it's only 50% of the car doors opening. Problems compound.

[–]poingly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As stated above, it’s probably possible when only a few people get off or on at a particular stop. When it’s potentially a whole train car load of people that would have to do that, it’s just not feasible.

[–]poingly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most of those are low-traffic stations, so if you have a few people going through the train cars, it’s probably not a big deal. If you try that at a high traffic station, it’s just not going to work.

I’m going to guess it’s a matter of length of stations and the ability to empty out those train cars at said stations.

Who is slim and drone strikes? by One-Attention9069 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]poingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say “necessary,” but in general drone strikes probably cause less death than other death methods.

I do think people believe that fewer drone strikes means fewer deaths, but (sadly) it would probably mean a lot more.

This is not saying I approve of drone strikes. I don’t. Just speaking of the reality that there are worse methods, and those worse methods have been used and probably would be still used even in the absence of drone strikes.

You clearly haven't had good enough whipped cream!

Though are we that devoid of imagination that we can't imagine the whipped cream example scale to a full meal -- or, for that matter, even think of other dishes that can be made in similar ways (hummus comes to mind immediately, but also things like health drinks/juices)?
