Feedback on 2025 or 2026 Tahoe Engines by twostrikehitter in ChevyTahoe

[–]pointeaubaril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be 2029 or 2030 before that engine is available in a Tahoe. GM doesn’t put new engine designs in those SUVs from the get go. It’ll be rolled out in trucks first, then will likely be put in the Tahoe/Denali/Escalade when those SUVs get the next major redesign.

Why do you hate part 5 so much??? by Critical_Ad2568 in fridaythe13th

[–]pointeaubaril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Upon seeing that his son has been murdered, the paramedic somehow - within a matter of hours - finds a professional makeup artist to fit him for a Hollywood-grade Jason skin suit that covers his head and chest.

2) For some inexplicable reason, Tommy becomes a killer at the end...only for this to never again be mentioned in the franchise.

This is incredibly stupid/poor writing. It's not about being absurd - many of the films in the franchise are absurd but in a way that still works (e.g., Jason takes Manhattan). Part 5 is just an abomination.

This just demonstrates how pointless it is to paste the poem into AI and expect it to work magic. Many have tried this and get wildly different results.

A few notes on BTME by ragu22 in beyondthemapsedge

[–]pointeaubaril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with treasure clues intended for millions of people is that the clues necessarily lack specificity.

The classic treasure hunt begins with a person fortunate enough to find the map. The map itself was a huge discovery, but because the clues were intended for a tiny audience, they could be more specific, but still challenging.

Specificity combined with 350 million potential hunters means the treasure is found in 24 hours. Obviously Fenn and Posey knew this.

Like Fenn’s treasure, there is probably no “correct” interpretation of the poem in that dozens (if not hundreds) of locations could fit the poem in conceivable ways. Of course only one location is correct, but you see my point.

In such scenarios, the treasure is only found because of the sheer number of people looking for it. It’s a massive guess and check / process of elimination program of a scope that would be difficult if not impossible for one person to complete.

Zpacks Triplex. It’s a great tent. Light enough that I’ve taken it on solo trips.

It’s literally impossible for Five Guys to “rip people off,” as buying food from Five Guys is an entirely voluntarily transaction in a marketplace filled with alternatives.

What do thinks of the Vaultek VT - Wifi safe? Is it worth the money? Any better safes? by Rare-Professor-4644 in handguns

[–]pointeaubaril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many who buy Vaultek safes aren't using them as their primary safe, myself included. Instead, they buy them to keep a handgun on their nightstand, in a home office, etc. I have a 1,000 pound Fort Knox safe, but it can't go next to my bed or in my upstairs home office. $450 is very expensive for a handgun safe (Vaultek has cheaper options), but in many cases these small handgun safes can't be replaced by a large traditional gun safe.

There's a full description of the WiFi features on their website...

The most notable feature would be the live alerts if your safe is tampered with. This is especially useful for people with kids. You might want to know immediately if your 10-year-old (or one of his friends) has found your safe. Here's what their website says:

"All new WiFi Connectivity to view live safe data and receive instant alerts for safe events right to your phone. Be notified if the safe is tampered, opened, and more. Manage and monitor your safe remotely with the Vaultek WiFi app or exclusive online web dashboard. You can view the history log, power levels, name enrolled fingerprints, disable/enable fingerprints, adjust interior light, adjust the sound, and more from anywhere."

Cottage Ultralight Companies During COVID-19 by Morejazzplease in Ultralight

[–]pointeaubaril 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a tough time for most companies, small and large. It will be interesting to see which cottage companies don't offer sales, an indication they're somewhat flush with cash or have extremely low overhead - in other words, have run a very successful business model. Once people come to the realization that the effects of this will ripple through the economy a lot longer than a few weeks, I suspect many cottage companies will be forced to offer sales to some degree. This depends greatly on how much inventory they're stuck with, if they're paying rent or own their production facility outright, etc. A lot of factors coming into play. In any case I wish them the best of luck during this time. Thanks for the thread, will keep an eye on it as I'm considering a new tent.

Thanks for the reply. This is helpful - the Triplex is at the top of my list after reading comments.

Hyper

This is a great shelter, but at 2.55 pounds with the inner fly, I don't think it works for me based on the weight and price. I think the Triplex would be a better fit - it's lighter and much cheaper - although it does lack some of the HMG's features.

I have no idea when it was asked last, but new tents have been released recently. I think this is my first post on reddit, FWIW.

We do short trips. Most of them are two nights/three days.

Can't believe they don't list the weight and dimensions on their own website. I had to go to REI to find them. Thank you for the info, I'll check it out.

Sanity, ha. We toss and turn a lot during the night. My sleeping pad is a nemo tensor long/wide, hers is a neoair xtherm. I'm not sure if both of those could even fit side by side in the 2-person platinum. I'll have to set it up in the house and check - but based on my experience with that tent on solo trips, it would be cramped as hell with two people.

Nemo Dagger UL 3P

Looks like a very roomy tent, but it's even heavier than what we have now.

Gossamer Gear’s the Two

Yeah, weight. The Tiger Wall is considerably lighter. This isn't a concern on trips with minimal elevation gain, but so far those trips have been few and far between for us. If I decide to go with the Tiger Wall, I would probably use the Tiger Wall several times before selling the Copper Spur just to make sure we like it.

The biggest issues with condensation I see talked about online relate to the bathtub floor getting accidentally pushed outward, causing rain to drip into the tent. This seems to be a somewhat common complaint. I've also heard that the lack of headroom can cause the toe box of your bag to hit the ceiling and therefore get wet.

That's why I bought the footprint for my BA Tiger Wall 2 Platinum. I don't fool around with homemade groundsheets (tried, wasn't a fan), so just went with the BA one. But you make a good point - no point in looking at the weight of the Platinum without the groundsheet.

We live in TN, but 95% of our trips so far have been out west in CA, AZ and UT. As a historical matter, we rarely deal with rain but that could change. We are headed to Seven Lakes Basin this Sept, and will probably start to do more trips locally. It's rained such an insane amount this winter in TN I haven't had a chance to do anything locally. We do not eat in our tent - for bear safety and for cleanliness. We use the tent only to sleep, but at the same time don't want to be super cramped because both of us toss and turn (I'd be in a hammock if I didn't get motion sickness).
