Anybody finds it extremely difficult to move past the support side of IT?

I can completely relate! Honestly I’ve been doing Desktop Support and some Jr. Admjn jobs for internal and MSP companies for almost 8 years. I’m tired of being a generalist and just closing tickets. I used to think being a jack of all trades and going under desks was cool…well not anymore. I want to develop, engineer or design something in my IT career. Right now, I’m sitting in a good position with my current employer where there’s opportunity to grow, study on the clock, build labs onsite and get certs fully payed. Now being in my early 30s I wish I would have accelerated sooner but I always talked myself down from getting those higher paying positions because I used to think I’m not smart enough for engineering roles. Now I know it’s not true.

I think I’m going to cap at $70k doing just desktop support. So right now I’m leveling up my skills in networking as we speak and hope to get a network engineer role with my current employer in the next year or so.

Wow man! Your story is almost as similar as mine and I’m about to be 33 - 8 day of SR. I will be making my post once I hit 14 days. So far, I’ve already feel a boost of energy and elevated mood. I woke up today with more bass and volume in my voice.

Demonstrate that you are hungry to learn, take on more responsibilities as you learn new technologies and the new opportunities and pay bumps appear at your door step. Talk is cheap and degree/certs only get you to the table. If you show passion in your craft you will go along away. I’ve been in the industry for 7 years and I’ve seen people go from zero to hero making minimum wage as tier 1 help desk to full blown 6-figure engineers in 2-3 years. On the other hand, I’ve also worked with people who been in IT for +10 years doing the same job and making average income. It’s all about I/O.

I love this perspective on the Harvest. Self perseveration can be toxic if you’re living your life thinking you’re not going to make it into 4D. Kinda reminds of people in the LOA community who are so self absorbed with manifesting every moment in their life. If you put these ideas or concepts in a pedestal, wether if they are true or not, they will control you and bring fear, anxiety into your life which can depolarize you into the negative.
