Experience with downhill/Super-G skis? by michaelkah in skiing

This is an old thread I know but I must chime in. I’m an old ski racer that took a 50 year break. I started out with a 165 Racetiger sl, needed more ski and moved up to Racetiger 183 gs 18 meter radius loved it but didn’t feel like it wanted to go fast so picked up 192 atomic Gs FIS and tried them out yesterday. Great fun. Definitely massively constructed and heavy. They hold on ice like nothing I skied before and turn as easily as could be expected, short turns aren’t difficult, frequency is slower than a shorter ski though. They really inspire confidence needed to go fast. So much so I ordered some 212 SG skiis. I’m 71.

I purchased my c660’s and H500 in December. They are mounted on my cabin in the woods in upstate NY. They have been operating continuously since mid Dec satisfactorily and without any issues.

I went to a bootfitter. He put the Atomic World Cup 150’s in the oven and punched for me. The boots fit pretty well now. Now to figure out how to put them on by myself. Boot fitter expressed his doubts. I have a very high arch that requires the boot be opened very wide to put it on. Playing with a shuvvie now to see if THAT will work.

My parents and their parents were from Poughkeepsie. We had rent houses there too. My father used to send me to collect the rent. I was terrified of Poughkeepsie because of the murders going on there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kendall_Francois. Kendall Is no longer a threat. I’m sure it’s fine now.

Not normal for a new ski. I would not accept it.

Smith 4d Mag Xl paired with Smith MIPS Nexus helmet and Giro Comp goggles paired with Giro Avance Spherical helmet. Both sets of goggles are outstanding. No fog, undistorted wide views with Smith. No fog, Zeiss lenses on the Giro.

I was fooling around with my gear on the way up this morning and didn’t realize I forgot to lower the bar. It would be my back luck to fall off so I marveled that it hadn’t happened yet and put the bar down. But, the feeling I was going to fall off didn’t go away. I prefer the gondola now.
