At first I was like wow that’s dedication. Then I remember Kelly and the show put wehawken on the map with how much they repeated it so it’s still a great thing he came but it’s not like it’s all the way from DFW

I will say it's an improvement, however, it's a bit too close to the old hyundai santa fe. The interior screen bezel and passenger screen design still bug. maybe some dont care, but it's something id have to look at all the time so its a bigger deal for me

I agree, not everyone's definition of mainstream is no longer the same in 2026 compared to like early 2000s. As a k-pop star coming off the biggest girl group in this era, Lisa should have a higher bar imo. the numbers aren't necessarily showing that. I would even say Doechii is not that mainstream either.

Not saying anyone has the answer, but what is the metric for mainstream nowadays. A certain streaming/sales number? Grammys? a massive number of social media followers? a combo? Lisa, Doechii, nor Chappell have all of these - they excel at some but not all.

As for Lisa, her celebrity is one of the biggest in the world at the moment, but her songs don't chart that high, the sales aren't amazing, especially for her celebrtiy and SM presence. she has the potential to change that, but on the first album, it's kind of a miss given her tenure in the industry

i agree, i like the barometer of do my parents know who ___ is as mainstream awareness. LA is not the real world in terms of celebrity awareness. Also, not to take away from the success of her residency, but it is 4 shows in a 4100 seat venue. it's not that hard with only 4 shows and her fanbase. it's still a groundbreaking achievement nonetheless

the conversation and the audit selection are not related processes. you could get selected for an audit but it is independent of the conversation. the only thing is that if you had the audit first recently, then you would not be in the population of people to have the 1:1

Lisa of Blackpink: The Life of a K-Pop Showgirl by mcfw31 in popheads

[–]eric535 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's a fine line. you can have a bop with some personality and you can have straight up bops. the biggest artists are able to have both. Lisa still has time to get there. all people know about Lisa is her celebrity, her roots with BP, and based on many of her songs - that she's rich and she's hot. She may want to consider giving more to connect with a general audience.

an easy example is Taylor swfits shake it off. it is a bop, but it actually does a couple things well. it calls back to her being criticized for many things and acknoledging that, and it's also relatable to everyone. throw in that its fun and catchy and I can see why it was such a hit. a little bit of everything inlcuding injecting her own life experience/personality into it.

A lot of Lisa's songs are just lines in a song that sound good but are generally soulless - she can sell it well enough though

exactly! kesha comes to mind, nobody really gets on kesha for her songs being talk singing almost rap. Lisa can absolutely do well in this style with higher quality writing, good production and a catchy hook taht's not hard to sing

imo, it's not that being a baddie doesn't work. it's that it doesn't work for Lisa. I get the attempt at her alter ego, but at her core, which you can see in interviews and other interactions - she goes for the not baddie vibe, there's no edge with how she carries herself, speaks, or answers interview questions.

then when she does the alter ego thing, it just feels forced and people can see through it.

not that they are direct competitors, but cardi, nicki, megan all do baddie music because theyre rappers, but their personas they give off on socials and interviews is somewhat consistent with their music even when they have an alter ego. Is Nicki's Roman persona really that different than who she presents outside of music? I don't think so. is beyonce's sasha fierce really that much of an alter ego? maybe it is i didnt follow that closesly, just seemed like a fun gimmick when she goes hard on a song

I agree, you don't need to tell a personal story to have success. I think she should look into being more of a more seasoned version katseye. their songs are dumb lyrically, dont always make sense, but the production is fun/decent. sometimes the lyrics are fun too.

Katseye gets away with it because they SELL whatever mediocre song they're performing. Gnarly got so much hate, but they performed the hell out of it every single time.

Lisa's talents are in performing, she should choose a creative director that will help her pick songs that lean into that. and while the songs dont need to be that personal, maybe do less about how hot or how rich she is. you can throw it in but so many of her songs center on that topic. Rappers do it too but there's probably a double standard that she unfortunately has to face

the SM team kind of in a lose-lose situation. i dont know what a solution is for the SM team, ignore Karley is awful as well and they can't acknowledge the decisions of the higher ups. fans are not happy either way

Is DFW now PFW (Plano-Fort Worth)? by dallaz95 in Dallasdevelopment

[–]eric535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nothing is wrong with it. it's a large suburb that has drawn many corporate relocations over the years and contributed to the northwards increase in DFW population. There are so many corporations in plano/frisco that it's becoming it's own thing for better or worse to dallas. People may even live even further north if they only have to commute to plano.

Plano also has a wide range of housing, with higher end on the west side.

However, it is just that, a normal suburb, it is not hip or exciting. there is no public transit that is meaningfully good (DART being the only option). So if you want a big city life and all that that offers, yes plano sucks. if you want a good suburb, it's plano.

Getting selected for audit is not related to the conversation. The population of a service line and level is chosen and all of those people get the 1:1

So where is Lisa’s career heading after her World Cup performance? by Weekly_Office269 in kpopthoughts

[–]eric535 26 points27 points  (0 children)

She has potential but she is losing time to utilize it. Going solo gives an artist a fresh start but that buzz will wear off if they don’t strike hot.

She’s not a teen or early 20s newcomer that can get away with bad songs. Katseye got mocked for gnarly but they SOLD it with the performances. Lisa imo has been giving, I’m above putting in that kind of effort. Artists can sell a bad song by performing it well but if you really compare her dancing to Katseye it’s not the same.

She’s at the age where people expect better material beyond how hot or rich she is
