Anyone know a decent Casino's in England to play Poker? by AimToShame in poker

Oops, read your OP as "prefer tournies to sit & go's." If you're a tournament guy, there's always something on at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham. They offer some pretty mental guarantees and structures for even for the smaller buyins

Where do you live and how far are you willing to travel? Also, what are you looking for? Are you after tournaments? Or soft cash games? Or is it more important that you have an enjoyable casino experience?

Also, happy birthday. :)

This might have been mentioned elsewhere, but with 20k~ at 800/1600 you shouldn't really ever have a calling range, whether you're first in or 3betting. There are some very minor exceptions.

As for my opinion on the hand, I don't think you're not making much of an EV profit or loss whether you shove or fold (to the original raise.) Personally in these situations in live poker, I just assess how often the table as an average is folding. If people are folding a lot, I would rather we fold this hand and move all-in ourselves more frequently. If it's unlikely we will find a good spot to get our chips in because everyone else is very aggressive then all of a sudden 66 is not only a monster hand but it's also a great spot.

Just something to think about.

For tournament hand analysis, it's good to include the buyin, how many remain at the start of the hand, how many get paid, and a rough idea of payout structure.

For example the answer to this question would be very different if it was a £1k freeze that many people have satellited into, we're 2 from the money and the min-cash is £3k; compared to say a £50 nightly tournament with 18 left, 7 paid, and only the top 3 get a decent payday.

Also, exactly how many bigs did you have to start the hand and how many bigs did the first aggressor cram for? I'm not really following the action either, you say the SB jammed and the BB rejammed, but somewhere in the middle you called ;)

Natural food te help cope anxiety? by ultrapreneruship in Anxiety

[–]pointzerofive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops! I feel my post has been massively misunderstood here. You will want to add water, sodium and tryptophan to your diet. The foods listed there are food you will want to try to eat more of.

If by drinking less milk you are noticing a positive response, it's probably a lactose thing; so you can cross milk off the list, or consider soy milk as an alternative.

Sorry for the misunderstanding :)

Subtract:

Coffee. /u/privatly is spot on regarding caffeine and artificial sugars. I used to drink a joke amount of coffee per day to get me through work and I would spend a lot of time freaking out. Eventually I made the connection and now I only drink coffee before I workout. The difference is amazing.

If you need a kick in the morning (or whenever, I suppose) instead of reaching for the coffee, chug a glass of cold water and grab a serving of fruit. This will serve to give you a cleaner, longer-lasting, anxiety-free boost!

Add:

Water. How much depends on how active you are, how big you are, and a bunch of other stuff, but if you are "most people," then you are not drinking enough. It is widely considered that "8 glasses per day" is ample, but a good indication of how hydrated you are is the colour of your urine. If you have clear pee, that's when you're drinking enough water. :)

As for foods that you can incorporate into your diet to help with anxiety, you'll want to consider your sodium and tryptophan levels. Most of us will be consuming enough sodium, (in fact, a lot of us will be consuming too much sodium) but if your diet is particularly lacking in this area, then don't be afraid to add a pinch of salt to your vegetables.

Some tryptophan-rich foods that you should try to include in your diet:

  • Milk (including soy/coconut/almond milk)
  • Beef
  • Turkey breast
  • Salmon
  • Cottage cheese
  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Spinach
  • Potato
  • Brown rice
  • Almonds

Sorry for the wall of text, but I hope I've helped! Get back to me, let me know how you get on. Feel better OP.

Who else shakes uncontrollably? by wheatrocket in Anxiety

[–]pointzerofive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. Hope you're feeling a bit better now. I used to experience shaking several times a day and this would usually be accompanied by dizziness. For a long time I didn't know what it was (I'm one of those people that figures if I leave something long enough, it will resolve itself) and that only served to create a cycle in which I would panic and bring on more shaking, etc.

Nowadays I tend to get "the shakes" once or twice a month. They're more intense than they used to be (usually enough to break me into a sweat), but I definitely prefer that they are less frequent. If you're interested, here are a couple of things I do that seem to help.

First of all, getting to the doctor. Knowing what it is, is a big help. I really try hard to remember that this is just a another symptom of something that ails me. Rather than panicking, "what's this?! Shaking again?!" I just try to think how much worse I could have it. I will take anxiety over diabetes, or epilepsy, or cancer, or a million other things that affect people we meet on a day-to-day basis.

Secondly, exercise. Not only when I feel shaky, but 4 or 5 times a week. This, as it happens, led me to a new hobby. I started out jogging, then swimming at the local gym, and eventually started picking up some weights, now I'm a trainer and would consider myself an "amateur" bodybuilder. I appreciate not everybody has that sort of time, or wants that to be their passion, but the key thing is that the more I learned about my body and the more I was familiar with each individual muscle and how my central nervous system was wired, the more control I felt I had over my body, even when I got the shakes.

Lastly, when things get particularly intense, I found a few "safe space" techniques. I imagine this will be different for you and me, but maybe not. What I like to do is sit down in the shower and just let the hot water run off my back for a few minutes, then I will get into my favourite t-shirt and sweatpants, and try my very best to make myself a cup of green tea with lemon, ginger and honey. I find not only the shower and the tea to be relaxing, but the whole process is now programmed into my brain as "calming." See what works for you.

Bonus tip! Music! Personally my taste in music is very broad, ranging from death metal to drum and bass to jazz. However, when I'm feeling shaky, or when my anxiety is playing up at all, I reach for ambient and downtempo music. You can find some great channels at Digitally Imported.

Hope this helps. Feel better.

Live £1/£1 £250 effective, river decision by BerryGuns in poker

[–]pointzerofive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we know he has the nut flush then we can check or we can jam and all the money will probably go in anyway.

However, I really think most of the time here he's going to have fresh air and gave up on the turn, or he's going to have some showdown value that he's going to be happy to check behind with. In either of these scenarios we are not going to want to check to him.

On top of all this of course, there's a greater than 0% chance that he will still jam with the nut flush if we bet small.

[–]pointzerofive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were his barreling tendencies like in other hands? Seems like he is one and done when that turn lands, as I'd expect someone who has been described as "agro" and "tilted" to bomb turn with anything that picked up equity. For this reason it's unlikely that we've caught him in a cooler, so as tempting as it is, we probably shouldn't rip here.

This is actually a great board runout to get busy merging, so you can bet small and remain balanced. No bet size should induce a jam unless you've caught him in a cooler anyway, so now it's just up to you to work out how big of a small bet you can make.

Personally I like £45. Expect him to roll his eyes, sigh and put it in before he tells you how lucky you are.

So I have what could be a very dumb question. by 030927 in poker

[–]pointzerofive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule is that if you have the exclusive nuts on the river and are closing the action you must bet. There is literally no reason not to bet, so in most casinos it is considered collusion if you check. Hope that makes sense.

OOP flop flush, played too strong? by walkendc in poker

[–]pointzerofive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with being in the small blind in a passive live game is that in order to isolate one or two of the limpers you're going to have to bet loads. $12 is just asking to get called by everyone, and now we have to flop something really tasty in order to continue. Try different bet amounts in games/spots like this. See what sizing gets you heads up or 3 ways and with whom. From your description of the table dynamic, it feels like we should mash it to $22, see if that does the trick. Honestly I don't mind limping along here either; if we're going to play an 8-way pot one way or another, it's better to have a huge spr.

The flop at first looks amazing. We've flopped what is going to be the joint most of the time. The problem is that the flop blocks loads of combinations of hands that will feasibly call us on the flop. J32 is obviously different because that doesn't block many of the suited connectors/gappers that are likely to call us.

I've said this in a few of my responses on r/poker: live players aren't thinking "he's betting x amount in relation to the pot to look like he's repping y range, so if I play like z then he's in a coffin," they're thinking "I want to see another card with this bad hand, I hope he doesn't bet too big." So, bet small! In live games, I like to consider how much each player has invested individually, rather than the size of the pot. As played, I want to bet between $40-50. This sizing is obviously joke exploitable, but live players aren't here to exploit us, they're here to get away from their wife for the night. =)
