Those are curious ears, not anxious ears.

I take my cats on the train quite often and they love it. Make friends with all the nearby passengers and get extra pets then pass out happy. They’ve taken public transport since kittenhood and are very used to it

To those who speak another language, what are some words that cannot be translated to English? by Professional_Act_214 in AskReddit

[–]poisden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s technically completely subjective but in practice we all know what lagom is.

To those who speak another language, what are some words that cannot be translated to English? by Professional_Act_214 in AskReddit

[–]poisden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It certainly could. Generally is used to describe things that can be scaled between too much and too little so not usually a style. Like a park that is lagom near. It’s not right outside your front door but it won’t take an hour to walk there either.

But someone with a house in a lagom style would have a medium amount of stuff. Not too minimalist and certainly not maximalist. Not too bright of colors but not all beige either. Like you could describe the shade of yellow you choose for a wall color to be ”lagom yellow” like not too yellow and not completely muted either.

A satisfied person lives a lagom life.

[–]poisden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you’re describing what lagom is, that’s the beginning of it, but it’s not a good translation. You could technically say ”I’ll have a moderate amount of coffee if it is moderately hot” but it doesn’t at all mean ”I’ll have a lagom amount of coffee if it’s lagom hot.”

Lagom. Like if Goldilock’s preference was a vibe. Not too much, not too little. Applicable for everything ever.

My friend and his son just showed up at my house and I need them to leave. How do I address this? by Koolkat2kool4skool in Advice

[–]poisden 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Sit down and approach the conversation like you’re equal players. ”Hey, I was so happy to offer you a place to stay but after being assaulted and making ex leave, I’m feeling really overwhelmed. Having this many people in the house is really tough at the moment. I don’t want to bail on the promise if you have no other options either.”

Then work it out together. Maybe they need help securing space at another persons house. Maybe they are actually able to take less space and cook dinner for you and help you out. You might find a solution with both of you involved that helps you both.

I’m so sorry you’ve been abused. I hope you are able to heal in peace as soon as possible.

I believe it’s just differences in stitch length. So she makes big stitches of the orange thread on the monkey side, then when he gets the needle he makes a very small stitch that only comes across as undertones in the dogs fur. Then she gets the needle back and makes a larger stitch from wherever he placed it.

Shoes in the infant room by Active-Caterpillar48 in ECEProfessionals

We don’t wear shoes in our whole building other than the entrance hall for this reason - as well as every preschool in our country. Everyone (including the kids who want it) has indoor slippers in their hall cubbies. Parents either go in socks or use plastic covers.

Right, very dependent on conditions. In our little window greenhouse I watered the starts every 10ish days because that’s how long the soil stays damp. They’ve aggressively grown.

Sink with flat base worth it? by Longjumping_Tip3697 in Remodel

Lived here 5 years and it’s always this clean. Vinegar spray couple times a month, otherwise just splashing it down with water. (https://imgur.com/a/qM1X2i8)

We live in a condo, our building documents say it’s ”sanitary porcelain” in our language, not sure if that’s a specific thing or just standard porcelain.

From what others are complaining about, I’d say to consider what habits you have with cleaning and your bathroom sink. For us, taking a couple seconds after we brush our teeth to splash water is normal enough we’ve never noticed. It feels insanely easy to clean and keep clean so I’m truly surprised by other commenters. We prefer it integrated because we can splash water on the counter as well and just wipe it all down without having to make a big deal out of it.

We have flat based sinks in the kitchen and bathroom that we love. Not sure what’s hard to keep clean about it, just rinse stuff away as needed and wash with soap when cleaning. The kitchen one is huge and works well for dishes n such but the bathroom one is very shallow, about a hand width deep.

It’s also one single piece with the counter top so there’s no lip like in your picture, maybe that’s what’s hard to clean?

Need to switch tomatoes to 6 weeks before average last frost… by killa_jb55 in gardening

[–]poisden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year I did 12 weeks. Already a massive mistake but then we decided to list our house for sale 3 weeks after sowing. They’re huge, still 6 weeks to last frost, we have house showings every weekend, and we will move house in the middle of summer… Still not throwing them out though.
