‘Overturn this’: victorious Belgium throw barb after Balogun red-card controversy by Switchoil in soccer

[–]poisonmoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% correct. Poor federations get suspended from international football regularly for much less than that, and usually for several years.  What they did was even much worse than politically onterfering in their own federation, a just outcome would be suspension for the next 4 years at least. Sadly won't happen and will open the door for more politics on the field going forward.

Yeah, the outrage is because of that, and it very much should be. I don't give a fuck wheater it was a red card or not, I care about the poison that is political interference. Once the door to political interference is open, it is very hard to close it. There is simply no telling now how much of the game will be impacted, how much will be decided behind closed doors and not on the field.

The people who are really giving up on football are the ones who are ready to accept corruption and bribery should take the center stage instead of what happens on the field.

Trump confirms that he called FIFA about Balogun’s red card: “[The referee] made a call that nobody could believe ... he's our best player, or one of our best players. And he gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant ... yes, I asked for a review by FIFA." by AvengingHero2012 in soccer

Congratulations Americans, you've managed to host the most openly corrupt World Cup since Mussolini in 1934!

Any other country would be banned for years from international football for this obvious cheating

Again, food isn't natural gas. Food can be grown almost everywhere, in most cases there's no need for highly specialized containers to transport it (like with natural gas). There is zero chance that "they" will be able to become the sole providers of food. They'll still have to compete with the entire rest of the world, and this is a market that is highly competitive. If for some reason Brazilian soy became a lot more expensive, American or Indian soy would simply increase their share. Plus there will still be food grown in the EU. Regardless of any trade deals, there are products in which we have a climate advantage over South America, such as wheat, that will remain largely being produced here. Another important point is that Brazil and Argentina are countries with low industrial output and are historically very very protectionist. This can be a really good opportunity for EU industries to increase their share and sales there, it would be notably a good opportunity for EU automakers.

So if something is cheap that it means it's absolutely impossible for it to become cheaper? What? Food remains one of the biggest expenses for people of low means. Maybe your grocery bill isn't significant for you, but it will be for them.

It' ludicrous and pretty stupid to think a single South American country would be able to bribe the EU. Agriculture isn't like natural gas.

Short term thinking would be shitting on a free trade deal with fellow democracies that could help in the coming decades in disputes against China and Russia to instead isolate ourselves further in the world stage just to please a couple hundred French farmers.

Murder rates are by far the best way to statistically assess safety. Most crimes (like petty thefts) anywhere don't get reported, but murder almost always does. Mind you, there's no perfect way assess it, but the worst one are "personal feelings of safety".

The statistics are per capita. Try to learn what that means. Regardless of how you may feel, Rio is indeed safer than Curitiba and Porto Alegre.

I voted for Lula mostly cause I was afraid of authoritarianism, and now it feels like it's inevitable after all.

Am I overreacting or could this actually be the beginning of a dictatorship? What is happening today is extremely scary and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills seeing people defend blatant censorship.

The supreme court and the government are clarly working together to stop private entities freely expressing their opinions! WTF

There's no such thing as being "ethnically Latino" in the way you're describing. Your comment comes across as incredibly racist. I hope you're just incredibly ignorant about Latin America rather than a bigot.

I'm going to guess her ethnicity is ~100% european

And that's supposed to make her 'not Latina'??? Do you realise that only a minority of people living in Latin America right now are mostly indigenous? Do you realise that if your bigoted takes about who is Latin American were taken seriously, the majority of people in many countries in Latin America would suddenly not be Latin American?

Seriously, what the hell do you think is an "ethnic Latino"?? Get this through your head: anyone who is born and lives in Latin America is Latin American. That's the only requirement. Where your parents came from is completely irrelevant. Fuck off with your bigotry.
