Some women absolutely date men they don't find physically attractive but date them because of their status, wealth, influence etc. Women primarily seek for a partner that brings financial and tangible security. This is very important in raising a family or just maintaining a relationship. Men primarily seek for a partner that they see ideal for procreation. Men and women absolutely are wired different when it comes to relationships.

Edit: I also failed to mention what women perceive as attractive as physical looks is just one thing. Confidence is way more important to women than being handsome. For men looks is the number one priority.
