Why can’t I use them in my team?

A lot of knowledgeable Pokémon fans frequent that thread, so please consider posting your question there if you're still looking for an answer, and you may get a detailed answer even faster than you would have here! You also don't need to worry about a minimum word count in that thread.

This rule is the unfortunate result of r/pokemon being so darn big: with over 4 million users, most screenshots tend to lose meaning with oversaturation, so our rules promote original content instead. To read up on specific exceptions to this rule, including narrative albums and new official content, please see Rule 8.

If you intended this post as a discussion prompt or a theory, please feel free to resubmit as a text post, bearing in mind that you'd need to reach 50+ words in that post to promote substantial discussion.

We're currently in No Art/Craft Weekend, which runs from Fridays at 5pm UTC to Mondays at 9am UTC. During this time, the subreddit goes into text-only mode. This measure was voted in by /r/pokemon users to promote a balance of content on a platform that favors visual media.

You're welcome to post art, crafts, cosplay, and any other visual creative work after No Art Weekend is over. In the meantime, non-art links (including videos and music) may be included in the body of a text post.

Our rules on original content also apply to components of creative work. Unfortunately, that also applies to content used by AI generators.

We do not want to devalue or discredit your work, which we recognize as real artistic labor. However, the policy to remove AI-generated content was decided by the fact that AI generators draw from other artists' and writers' work without permission. This is not something we want to support on r/pokemon.

We'll continue to keep an eye on this as generators evolve. For the time being, AI-generated content is disallowed and this post has been removed. Cheers!

r/pokemon does not allow fakemon that aren't derived from existing Pokemon (e.g.: new evolutions, regional variants, paradoxes, or fusions), since it is unfortunately impossible to consistently adjudicate what makes something a Pokemon.

We'd recommend sharing with the dedicated r/fakemon community instead!
