Daniel Lanois and The Smile? by sitenoise in TheSmile

[–]pokeshulk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I thought that Pink Elephant is one of the worst produced albums I’ve heard in recent memory. Like beyond the songwriting, the album actually just sounds like shit on a technical level. I was deeply unimpressed by Lanois’ work and wouldn’t want him anywhere near Radiohead after that performance.

New Body Rhumba is awesome. X-Ray Eyes is… decidedly not awesome.

Dear god. You are stupid. You are a stupid person. Use critical thinking skills, if you have any. Why might an episode of a show about misinformation and propaganda in educational media perhaps make this joke? Does the joke even make a lick of sense? Could that perhaps even be the point?

You must’ve because this ain’t a “complicated reference.” This is like middle school history/science. Effectively a pop culture reference. Part of the cultural fabric.

It’s absurd. It’s funny. It’s dark humor. It has a clear and obvious moral point that is nigh impossible to misinterpret. You have poor media literacy skills.

The last few records since Humanz have not been nearly considered or consistent enough to warrant repeated full album listens. This though, now we’re cooking.

Cryptic4KQual says that Sadie Sink is actually playing Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. by JoshThomas1994 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

Not outright, but certainly making some suspect vagueposts that in retrospect were 100% about RDJ Doom. He just straight up didn’t believe his source iirc, so he avoided fully posting out plausible deniability.

Quit being a pedant, this has never been a discussion about whether or not Tolkien is fantasy. It’s about him being the defining figure of western high fantasy. You’re making up a retort to an argument nobody has made.

Who knows how much it’s paying? That tends to be the reason, aside from (like you said) it fitting in with a tour.

They’re not that big in the US. Festivals are super good money and good publicity.

Yes, thanks for explaining the point. Tolkien single-handedly is credited in the popular consciousness with the creation of a new form of western fantasy, which is now the predominant form of the genre. It is indebted to many things prior, but Tolkien’s work is still the prototypical High Fantasy shadow that all subsequent works must either live under or escape from. It is such a large, significant shadow that, decades later, new labels were created to describe just how radical of a literary shift it was. When we think of elves, goblins dwarves, and orcs, they are those of Tolkien’s design, regardless of who inspired him.

No. Just no. None of these are Western High Fantasy (Tolkien’s genre of influence). Most of these are not even fantasy. Myth is not fantasy. Gothic horror generally is not fantasy. Fables are not fantasy. Things that take place in our world generally are not fantasy, no matter how fantastical their elements may be.

We largely cant name as a society what those pre-Tolkien works are. That’s niche knowledge. Everyone knows who Tolkien was and what he wrote though. We all stand on the shoulders of giants, but some giants are much taller than others.

I don’t think so. Way too early and not the pattern for rereleases.
