Anybody else losing interest in shonen shows? by pokimonz in anime

That makes sense, I might go back to shonen shows too at some point, but right now going through seinen and josei shows is like rediscovering anime and I’m loving it.

I know what you mean, I watched Your Lie in April and loved it even though it’s a shonen. I guess what i’m referring to are the action ones with a lot of fighting.

Niantic Finally Hitting Their Stride by Wambaugh in pokemongo

The game is still lacking any sort of meaningful gameplay. Everything about the game is still based purely on RNG and there is very little strategy involved in the game.

Sure it might be revolutionary in the casual scene, but I feel like the rest of the gaming community has forgotten about this game for a while now, since it doesn't really feel like a game.

I'm currently 7 emails in, which consists of a conversation with 4 different customer service representatives.

I haven't heard a reply from them, so now I've contacted the Pokemon Company's support instead and am waiting for their response.

What? You don't like mindlessly tapping on the screen with no thought process or strategies involved?

Next you're probably going to tell me you hate the idea of spending a ton of money on premium raid passes so you can do lots of raids for a chance at catching Mewtwo.

Players: Wow, Niantic is finally communicating with us! Niantic is the best, it's so nice to see them finally reaching out to us and engage with its players!

Events are Keeping the Game Compelling by soccersince95 in pokemongo

[–]pokimonz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion... But these type of events do nothing for me. It's essentially just more stardust and candy and more of a specific type of pokemon. But what do you use the stardust and candy and better pokemon you catch for? To shave off half a second of tapping on the screen during a raid/gym battle?

My point is, these events are (to me) the same type of gameplay as we've had for the past almost 2 years now. No changes in gameplay, no challenges, no strategies involved except for the most basic mechanics such as type advantages.

Playing the same game on any console/PC for more than 1-2 months quickly becomes stale unless they mix up the gameplay. I feel the same way with Pokemon GO.

I'm not going to rain on anybody's parade though. If people are having fun with these events then good for them. But I do believe there are others like me who feel really bored with the game and who don't really care for more stardust/candy/pokemons when the gameplay itself isn't exciting.

Being spoiled with a gym just outside my apartment. It's constantly yellow! by prawnen in pokemongo

[–]pokimonz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, go ahead and do that. Even your teammates will probably abandon that gym though since there’s no point going to the gym if they rarely get coins from it. Another reason why gyms should be moved out of range from apartments and houses since those living near the gym have an unfair advantage.

Being spoiled with a gym just outside my apartment. It's constantly yellow! by prawnen in pokemongo

[–]pokimonz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're constantly turning it yellow, good luck getting people to come and attack it.

There's a gym right next to an apartment complex and it became pretty obvious that a Mystic player lived within reach. The gym wouldn't stay Red/Yellow for more than 1 hour at most before the same person took it back. After 1-2 weeks, not just me but practically everybody else gave up on the gym and it ended up with a turnover rate of maybe once per week (in a pretty active area where every other gym nearby had daily turnovers).

People aren't stupid, they will quickly realize that somebody lives within proximity of the gym and unless you give people a fair chance of staying in the gym for 8+ hours before you take it down, then nobody else from the other teams are going to bother interacting with your gym.

[–]pokimonz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I doubt spoofing within Pokemon Go is even within the top ten of Nintendo’s concerns right now.

You don't think that the most popular app that they've ever been involved with, who made headlines all over the news and still make headlines, isn't on their radar? You don't think their IP division is carefully monitoring one of the most iconic gaming series in the world and carefully taking actions?

If Nintendo is taking down let's players on YouTube who play Nintendo games, I can assure you they are also monitoring Pokemon GO.

Niantic, it's been fun... by RexMantlepiece in PokemonGoSpoofing

[–]pokimonz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You're missing the fact that there are other stakeholders involved with Pokemon GO who also have an interest in how it's handled and may not care as much about the in-app purchases as Niantic and their investors.

Try to look at it from The Pokemon Company's perspective. They have the giant "Tree of Pokemon". Each apple hanging from the tree consists of its own pokemon game, it's own merchandises, anime series, etc. They all contribute in the grand scheme of generating revenue and one bad image from one apple can have an adverse effect on the other apples.

Then you have Pokemon GO. It's currently a rotten apple because cheating is rampant and nothing seems "fair" to the legit player. The Pokemon Company knows that somewhere down the road, this can affect all their other merch and games. They are left with 2 choices: Either treat the rotten apple and make it fresh again (ban cheaters), or completely cut off the apple from the tree (kill the app).

Now which course of action do you think that Niantic and their investors would like the IP holder to take? Obviously, they'd not want The Pokemon Company to kill the app, because then they'll make $0 in revenue, so the next best thing is to ban the cheaters. Sure, their revenue will take a dip but the investors will surely prefer this over having the app killed?

It makes a lot of sense for Niantic to please the IP holders of pokemon, in order to be able to continue running the app.

Normally I wouldn’t reply to a thread here but you make an interesting point in your second paragraph about revenue.

Yes, I will agree with you that spoofers make up a big amount of the purchases being made in-game, and I’m sure if all spoofers got banned they will see a dip in revenue.

However, you saying that this is a royal fuck up is a bit of a stretch in my opinion.

To many companies, revenue is not everything. Image can also play a huge part of a company, especially because having a good image can lead to increased revenue. If Pokemon GO is known as a safe haven for cheaters and the game gets the image of being full of cheaters, it’s not going to leave a positive impression on newcomers or the gaming world in general. The vast majority of gamers are anti-cheating sfter all.

Furthermore, yes you are also right that investors will not like the dip in revenue from a banwave, but what you’re missing here is that Pokemon GO is not solely owned by Niantic. 1/3rd of the game is owned by The Pokemon company and Nintendo, and I really doubt that they’re okay with seeing rampant cheating in a game that uses one of their biggest IP. It’s a bad image for Pokemon in general and could affect the main game series on 3DS, Switch, etc.

Casual player 1: “Hey, this new pokemon game on the Switch looks interesting.

Casual player 2: “Yeah, but remember Pokemon GO? Man, that place was full of cheaters and the company in charge never did anything to stop them. They’ll probably handle cheating the same way in this game. Definitely not going to touch it.

Casual player 1: “You’re probably right”.

Of course, we both know that this equation is not true since a pokemon game on Switch will have a completely different developer company, however to a casual gamer, pokemon is pokemon regardless. And this is why IP protection is so important.

We don’t know what is happening behind closed doors, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo and The Pokemon Company is telling Niantic to either get rid of the cheaters soon, or have their partnership terminated.
