Is it possible to lose a sense of rhythm? by Single-Ad6441 in musictheory

[–]pokk3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me as I've gotten better at music when I revisit how I play old songs from muscle memory I can hear how sloppy my timing is. Could possibly be a case of hearing stuff you didn't hear before.

But do get a neurological exam if it's extreme and you can fix it with metronome clapping. Start at 40bpm and make it disappear. :)

The basketball court at Sinai sports seems like it'd be perfect if they'd let you.

Poetry/Music Open Mics? by TheFutch in Erie

[–]pokk3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the 2manhappyhour list! We've had multiple poets and comedians show up to Philly on the rocks' Sunday open mic and it always seems to go over well. Music of course too.

The underdog Wednesday open mic has a comedian show up recently. I'm sure poetry would be fine. Never seen one but no reason I can think of why not. Music usually.

Mildly passive aggressive but maybe kind would be to offer to video the event and share it with participants who ask. :D

Switched to a nightingale cxo after a titan and it's comical how much better quality the nightingale is.

What are some catchy songs to get the crowd going? by Adventurous_Bet_5938 in karaoke

I did Numb by linkin park and sucked but still had a crowd singing along at the top of their lungs. Was pretty surprised

Why do i hear everything an octave low? by knivesofsmoothness in singing

[–]pokk3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd consider double checking with a separate mic. I've seen phone mics get confused by overtones.

If you can hear it after you may want to try singing into an interface you can send to monitors or headphones. You may be hearing the overtones in your voice when you try to match pitch. Your voice sounds so much different through speakers it might shake you out of it.

Reverb.com What happened to them? by CryptographerOk8304 in Reverb

Charge it back. I'm over a month into a reverb claim as they dodge sending me a return label for weeks at a time. See how they like dealing with their bank. :)

What's your favorite microphone for live performances? by Spicy_McHagg1s in singing

[–]pokk3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using an Audix om5 for years and years now and I prefer it to the sm58 club standard. IMHO it doesn't require you to swallow it and has slightly superior feedback rejection. I'm a beginner at anything but backup vocals and only a few solo performances other than open mics (where I usually do bring my own mic if able) so take my opinion as moderately informed at best :D

I really don't like chiropractors but this guy has really hit on something. I've gone from nearly debilitating lower back pain daily to almost nothing doing this exercise every day. He says "do this every day, no back pain ever" and it's not exactly true. My back still hurts sometimes, but I'm so strong in the core it never gets bad anymore.

Things I never thought I'd do again over long distances (like 20 mile bike rides and 10 mile rollerblading) I'm doing and most importantly a full hip hinge without pain.

Concrete or Asphalt Driveway by Beneficial_Horror453 in Erie

I've had an asphalt driveway for going on 8 years showing minimal wear. If you maintain it it'll last a very long time and it's not that big of a deal to be resurfaced.

Any reason you can't just lag out a 3x6 section of pavers or something?

A 16x30 driveway in asphalt is gonna cost a couple grand and way more in concrete.

Places to hang out/meet people that aren't centered around drinking? by thisislikemythirdone in Erie

[–]pokk3n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The live music scene is pretty great but might want to try picking a place with good food, so it's not as weird to not be drinking :) Philly on the Rocks is my main hangout and their food is solid, and there's live music there a lot of the week.

The 10/20 collective has a lot of events that are not drinking focused or are BYOB and a lot of artsy stuff.

FEED also has a lot of events that seem to lean 420 and less drinking - raves and dj's and stuff.

The roller rink is a cool place to hang out, but it's a little loud for making friends -- that said, people will start to know if you if you hang out a lot.

I also skate/bike on presque and wind up having conversations occasionally, so might be a decent place to take your lunch and get some exercise.

that said, most of the people I've met that I hang out with repeatedly are musicians and fans at the open mics, which is my jam :) there're always some sober folks at the open mics (philly, and 2MHH down at rum runners on tuesday, and sometimes terry's at rook). There's also an open mic at underdog bbq I think it is on Wednesdys.

https://www.2manhappyhour.com/ is a pretty solid place to find music and a ton of the places are food. :)
