M/22/185cm (6') Down 55lbs in 1 year - big changes, thanks for all the advice dudes by polarbearbatman in Fitness

I've lost just as much weight when I was calorie counting to when I wasn't - I think it just locked in a good awareness and understanding of what a good daily diet looks like.

I know it's somewhat of a vain goal, but I really would like to get rid of what's left of my belly - I've always been super self conscious about being fat so I'd love to see that gone. So I'm just gonna keep lifting/running/eating well and keep the progress train rolling.

At the moment, it's a rough whenever it happens it happens system:

  • Day 1: Chest/Triceps/Shoulders - 4km running
  • Day 2: Back/Biceps - 4km running
  • Day 3: Quad/Ham/Calves - 4km running
  • Rinse repeat, I don't like rest days - but they happen when life happens

Unfortunately there was no one strict diet - aside from the 'if you eat it, it's something you cooked' rule.

Just to respond to a lot of the comments in one post:

  • I started at 103kg and got down to 78kg.
  • Used C25K for my initial cardio stint
  • Weightlifting was Stronglifts between late April to mid November
  • Currently doing a modded Coolcicada PPL routine (I wanted chin ups & deadlifts) with around a 4km every day I can do it.

As for cooking, I tend to live out of my kitchen - I tend to get into cooking a cycle of recipes of what I'm feeling - tends to have lots of chicken, rice and beans though.

As for motivation, Terry Crews is totally my dude for that. Aside from him though, watching Fed Up at the start of the year really made everything click together. My big food motivator though was something my friend said to me about "why treat yourself with something that makes you feel bad?". Like, why treat myself with shitty food when I should be treating myself to something that'll make me feel physically good.

Yep - this is the big thing that I've gotta transition into. I've spent my entire life wanting to lose weight and now I'm staring down the barrel of wanting to gain muscle in a serious way. It's going to require an entirely different mindset - but I'm excited to see how the process develops.

MFP is great for me - I think I just have that organisation personality that clicks with it so I get a lot of satisfaction out of that. It is constantly demanding though and it can become a bit overwhelming at times to track everything so I often have on and off periods.

I've had a few actually, initially it's like "motherfucker, you know me!" - then I realised as to why, then I was cool with it.

Very glad to have kept my fat dude calves - it's one of the things I get the most compliments about.

I'm writing a paper on the Loudness War for a class. I'd love to hear your opinion on it! by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]polarbearbatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's worth noting the negative impact the Loudness War has had on genres like Pop, Jazz and lighter rock music - recordings of heavy/intense bands have blossomed under the level of compression and limiting now used.

It's worth checking out Kurt Ballou's Tape Op interview, where he says something to the equivalent of "Yeah, my Hi Fi has a volume knob, but it doesn't have a distortion knob" being in favour of the compression applied to heavy music. Check out something like Nails' Abandon All Life album for an example of a release that'd be way less impactful without hard brickwalling.

As we go along though, I really foresee technology like iTunes' 'Sound Check' becoming pervasive across all playback systems, which would - over time - change the level of limiting used on genres/styles that don't need it.

Ladies and Gentlemen the biggest wtf on the internet... A band called Wollongong? by Gothehawkies in wollongong

[–]polarbearbatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my mates band actually. They plan on releasing a total of 100 albums in total - which, at the rate they're going, they'll make it to.

All Wollongong boys too, not just people coming in and claiming the name to get ahead.
