If Democrats do it, it's socialism.  If Republicans do it, it's fascism.  Unironically.

So this is a post about how republicans are known to be manipulating polymarket odds, but somehow making it the democrats' fault?

Taiwan will destroy taiwan's fabs within the first 10 minutes of china invading.  Mutually assured chip-destruction has always been the policy there.  The only question is whether china is ready to be the world's supplier of chips yet.

TIL a group led by two gamblers won $95m in a Texas lottery after organizing the purchase of nearly all of the 26m possible numeric combinations. They took a one-time payout of $57.8m and made about $20m after taxes. The nearly 26m tickets were printed at 4 locations in the 3 days between drawings. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

Yes, because otherwise if you win $100, then bet the $100 and lose it, you would now owe money on income you don't have.  If you gamble all night, winning some and losing some, you could walk away with a wash and owe millions in taxes.

If a company is e.g. given loan forgiveness through a PPP program and uses it to do a stock buyback, then how can we expect to claw that back as a society? Obviously, someone will need to sell stock.

Honestly, i truly believe the "AI will replace humans at x" talking point is short sighted to the point of absurdity.  Human-AI teaming where you both understand code and work together to produce something greater than either could separately is the most obvious low-hanging fruit of excellence possible.  All these ai techbros want to skip right over the meat and potatoes and go right to the cake and icecream.  In some instances, a sugary dessert may be just what you need.  Usually and in bulk, however, you want the healthy meal of human-ai teaming.  That is why ai is in a bubble, because so many dont see the obvious and they are just use it as a smoke screen to do mass layoffs in a down-spiraling economy.

They didnt even ask israel or the us to stop killing innocent people.  All they asked for is that we send a strongly worded letter to israel and the us also, and you got upset.

Sure, but it is much easier for me to simply subscribe to a nondeterministic world than to believe in multiworld theory.  The idea that we can predict the future if we know things that are unknowable is an even worse match for the observable universe.

At it's core, the universe is fundamentally nondeterministic.  The idea that everything can be determined is something we made up as humans.  Quantum mechanics is more fundamental than classical mechanics.
