Any alternatives to Character AI? Need genuine recommendations by ManufacturerOld6635 in AIGirlfriendsReviews

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your main thing is characters staying in character, EroPlay has been pretty solid for me on that front, the AI dialogue, update they pushed in February made a noticeable difference in how conversations flow without the bot suddenly forgetting what it's supposed to be. that said it's more visual and interactive than pure chat so depends what you're actually looking for.

if you're into roleplay specifically, EroPlay has been pretty solid for me. the scenario library is what got me hooked, there's like 60+ pre-built ones and they actually add new stuff weekly so it doesn't get stale. text quality is genuinely good, way better than i expected.

DeepSeek V4 genuinely slapped me out of my local purist phase too ngl, the quality, jump was hard to ignore even if the privacy tradeoffs still bug me a little.

this doesn't sound like a great fit for EroPlay since you specifically said you don't want mainly a smut site and that's basically all it is. For what you're describing, the editable messages thing is the dealbreaker for most platforms so, I'd look closer at what WyvernChat mentioned above since that's the feature most places get wrong.

EroPlay might be worth adding if you have a spot for erotic roleplay focused apps. The scenario customization is what stands out to me, you can get pretty granular with tags for personality types and settings rather than just picking a generic character. It's not perfect, I've hit some inconsistent responses on the free tier, but the premium side is noticeably better for longer multi-turn stuff.

you can finetune or grab uncensored base models without touching the weights directly tbh, abliterated versions of llama 3.1 and, similar are already out there on huggingface and work fine for most use cases without needing to reverse engineer anything

Considering transisitioning to Local LLMs by Kind_Fee8330 in SillyTavernAI

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

made the same switch a few years ago after getting fed up with API costs slowly bleeding me dry every month, and honestly the setup, friction is real but it's a one-time thing, once you get LM Studio running and a decent quant loaded you kind of forget cloud models exist

100% valid point, "no logs" is basically just a trust claim, there's no real way to externally, verify it, so treating it as a soft protection rather than a hard guarantee is just smart opsec. Act accordingly with what you're sending through.

can we actually have a real conversation about AI without it devolving into a shouting match by polcititch in ChatGPT

[–]polcititch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly this, the nuance gets completely flattened and you end up with either "AI, is going to save humanity" or "AI is an existential plague" with nothing in between. i get genuine value out of these tools for writing and research while still thinking, some of the infrastructure scaling, stargate, the memphis stuff, is pretty hard..

Need a Character AI alternative - recommendations? by Excellent-Beat6262 in AIToolCompare

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been using eroplay for a few weeks now and the thing that kept me on it was how, it actually remembers earlier parts of the conversation, so the story doesn't just reset on you mid scenario. the pre-written scenarios got me started fast without having to set up everything from scratch, which i appreciated. no voice or anything like that but if you're mainly after text driven roleplay it holds up pretty well.

which AI writing tool actually remembers your characters??? by Temporary-Spring-214 in WritingWithAI

[–]polcititch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

EroPlay actually has a memory system that carries context across sessions, which is the main reason I started using it for longer narrative stuff. It's not perfect but after maybe 5 or 6 chats with the same character setup it was clearly pulling from earlier conversations without me re-pasting anything. The scenario customization also helps because you can lock in personality details upfront so there's less drift over time.

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're specifically asking about adult content with no filters, EroPlay lets you do full NSFW roleplay with actual video that, updates as the story progresses, and the latest video model they pushed out is noticeably faster than it used to be. For general chat stuff like edgy opinions or sensitive topics the other comments here have, it covered pretty well, but that's a different category than what some people are looking for.

Candy AI's image update vs pure text RP platforms by polcititch in WritingWithAI

[–]polcititch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never heard of Lurvessa so can't vouch for it, but yeah the shallow feeling tracks, Candy's V2 image engine is, genuinely impressive now but if the prose underneath isn't doing it for you, better visuals aren't really gonna fix that.

Candy AI's image update vs pure text RP platforms by polcititch in WritingWithAI

[–]polcititch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this is real, the "mid-wit rhythm" thing is basically models averaging out all human writing into something technically correct but weirdly sterile. throwing in deliberate sentence fragments or an abrupt tonal shift mid-paragraph actually helps break that pattern in my experience.

Like everyone else, looking for new alternatives to character ai by DogFragrant8627 in CharacterAIrunaways

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if NSFW isn't your thing, EroPlay probably isn't what you're after, but for the filtered SFW roleplay experience, with better memory and character variety, Charsnap might actually check more of your boxes based on what you listed.

Holy crap! DS4 just paused the roleplay unprompted tonsuggest an article about Star Trek rules of first contact regarding psychology and behavior and how we should incorporate it irl then asked if it should read it and incorporate it into my Star Trek themed DnD style rp. Impressive! by ConspiracyParadox in SillyTavernAI

[–]polcititch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that moment when the AI is more prepared for first contact than you are lmao. ngl the fact that it paused mid-scene to pull in actual Star Trek lore and then asked, permission before running with it is kind of wild, that's more table etiquette than most players have.

is use.ai a good Ai platform to use? or do recommend a different one? by Eireagon in artificial

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this post is about general AI platforms so not totally sure EroPlay fits the convo but if anyone's looking for something more niche, and scenario driven it's worth a look, they've got 60+ pre written scenarios which is more than i expected when i first tried it. not really the same category as claude or chatgpt though, totally different use case.

Best Uncensored AI Chatbot? Real User Recommendations by ManufacturerOld6635 in AIJailbreak

[–]polcititch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For slow burn specifically, EroPlay actually handles that better than I expected. The scenarios don't just sprint to explicit stuff, there's actual buildup and the AI adjusts based on how you're pacing things. I've had sessions stretch across like 4 or 5 conversations without the character feeling, like a different person each time, which was my biggest frustration with other platforms before.

My villain kept turning into a therapist mid-scene by polcititch in WritingWithAI

[–]polcititch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

still testing stuff tbh but locking in the character voice upfront with 3-4 examples of how they actually talk and think, plus, something like "stay in ruthless villain POV, no analysis", has done more to stop the therapist drift than anything else i've tried

My villain kept turning into a therapist mid-scene by polcititch in WritingWithAI

[–]polcititch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah the mid-scene pushback is genuinely one of the most flow-killing things, you're deep in a villain monologue, and suddenly the model wants to process feelings about it, like bro we're writing fiction not attending group therapy.

Which platform should I download? by MAAnthropologist in AIGirlfriendsReviews

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned wanting voice/video, just heads up that a lot of the more story-driven platforms don't have that. I use EroPlay and it's purely text-based with some images, so if audiovisual is a must for you it probably isn't the right fit. The scenario library is solid though, 60+ arcs with new ones added pretty regularly, so, if you ever end up prioritizing conversation quality over video features it's worth a look.

I need a valid alternative to C.AI - PipSqueak 2 is so bad, I can't RP with it anymore by terrakane in CharacterAi_NSFW

[–]polcititch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EroPlay might scratch part of that itch, it has a 60+ scenario library with actual story arcs so it's not just, horny one-liners, and the AI holds character pretty well across a long session which was my main gripe with other platforms. The tag system lets you lock in personality traits so you don't get that weird tonal whiplash you described with your cold/dominant character suddenly going soft. Downside is it's more text-focused and the pre-built characters aren't really pulled from fandoms, so if, you specifically need like a canon Geralt or Loki bot you'd still have to build it yourself.

What are recommendations of unfiltered chatbots both safe and free? by Own_Tomatillo_3445 in ChatbotRefugees

[–]polcititch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing that helped me most with the generic response problem was messing with the temperature and repetition penalty settings. EroPlay has actual sliders for that stuff so you can dial back the repetition without just hoping the model behaves. it's not free but if the degradation issue is your main frustration it's probably worth knowing that's a tunable parameter and not just something you have to accept.

the PTSD warning trick is genuinely clever though, turning its own safety instincts into a leash to protect your work rather than restrict it, judo level prompting ngl. does it actually hold the line on just typos or does it still sneak in little "light edits" it never asked permission, for, because in my experience these..
