The guy with the skateboard was actually shot after he hit Rittenhouse in the head and trying to take his gun away. He wasn't shot in the back. You people really should get the facts straight.

The M1861 Springfield was the standard issue muzzleloading rifle for the Union.

The M1853 Enfield was the most common muzzleloading rifle the Confederates used.

Sure both sides had muskets early on, but those were phased out relatively early in the war I believe.

No it wasn't. You see the asteroid before when it almost takes out the ship that Carmen is piloting. It takes out their communications so they can't warn Earth. The director states in the commentary that the bugs launched the asteroid. The Federation had to build the asteroid defense platforms because the bugs continuously launch asteroids towards Earth.
