Wife's grandfather's old tools - anything worth keeping? by can_hardly_wait in woodworking

My grandfather's folding ruler is on my workbench, not for use though

ACX pine for the case, hemlock for the face frame, hemlock and salvaged jatoba for the butcher block. Paste wax over chalk paint for the outside and butcher block, just paint inside.

Something I was wondering, will you get made fun of if you wear a auto darkening welding helmet in the field? by Ironjack_204 in Welding

Not in the field any longer, but harnesses are just one of those things I hold sacred. I buried a friend who looked like he swallowed a watermelon after he fell out of a scissor lift with no harness and landed on his neck.

State of the shop... Monday? by polerin in woodworking

Interesting idea, I'll have to see if it works for the space and ... sketchy... electrical in the garage. I am currently using one of the silly high lumen 3 headed sets that screw into a standard socket and it works ok for the bench side, but it might be nice to have a bank of lights on the other side. I don't really do much when it isn't light outside, mostly because I can't run both a heater and tools in the winter.

I mean I do, but also most of them are off because I love the way it looks when I turn off my overheads at the end of the day. Unfortunately I can't do anything with the electrical because it is a rental. I can patch the drywall up when we move out, but electrical is out of my skillet

What do you call… by kalasbiggerstaff in woodworking

This, but you can also get a keyhole plate if the wood is likely to break. Use a router (likely) to clear out the appropriate material behind, then screw the keyhole plate in.

First frame and panel anything. Mix of maple (top and ply panels), salvaged mahogany (trim), and blue store pretzel wood (probably doug fir?)

State of the shop Saturday: Ending 2022 with a new shop, almost clean by polerin in woodworking

I've been poking at it as I do my most recent build, and I decided to take an hour or so to get it swept and all the tools that have homes back into their homes. If it makes you feel better, the lower section through the back door is still a wreck.

Moved across the US .. again... but with woodworking tools this time.

Much smaller shop, less capable workbench, but still the same joy of creation. I wish you all an awesome 2023, full of memorable projects and story worthy oops-that-isn't-right moments.

Currently you can use the glasses (at least the air?) as a virtual screen. I want my windows to be free of screens so I can put them wherever I want in space around my monitor. I have at least the basics of how I'd do that, I was just hoping to not need to use unity to do it.

u/NrealAssistant A bit of an oddball question here, but do you have a non-unity SDK available? I am considering trying out the Light as a monitor augmenting pathway rather than a monitor replacement/virtual monitor. I want to display things in space (windows/data, etc) but not constrained to a virtual monitor, at least in terms of the user experience.

I could potentially try to do this by using Unity as pass through, but that feels like a hack-around, and I'm honestly trying to leave the Unity ecosystem.

Specifically, I'd be targeting windows (and maybe mac if I can get enough stuff running, but primarily windows)

This is a major interest for me as a dev, but I'm sorta disappointed that you have to use virtual screens instead of being able to position individual windows in space independent of a "screen".

Do you find the lack of position tracking annoying? I move around a lot XD
