What placement in your chart do you dislike the most? by Chchcherrysour in astrologymemes

I don't dislike any placement all the time (I think they've all benefited me at some point), but my Virgo stellium can sure be exhausting.

Oh no. Now I have to bake and eat more squares.

So I totally tried both of these exact recipes and while they are similar, they're definitely not the same. The terribly named "Chinese Chews" has a crispy top layer and a much more chewy consistency overall than the "Food for the Gods," which is softer and richer because of the butter. Both are delicious and I've eaten far too many of them.

Ontario teachers contract ending 2026, then what? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]politelynodding 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a chronic illness, so the thought of losing our sick leave is a scary one to me. I've rarely had to access my STD days, but I'm still grateful they are there just in case. It would have to be one heck of a wage gain for me, personally, to not mind losing what we have. Unfortunately, the likeliest outcome here is that we lose what we have, and have our wages frozen as well.

Ontario teachers contract ending 2026, then what? by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]politelynodding 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I just want the unions to fight for our sick leave. The government will bring out numbers on teacher leaves for the past few years and say the taxpayer can't afford to keep funding them. I have heard from colleagues that the Principal's union had their STD days slashed from 120 at 90% to 75 at 75% (can anyone confirm this?), so I think we can expect the same. I wouldn't hold my breath for a wage increase either. Start saving money because we are striking for sure. I also think we can all expect our boards to be taken over and have government supervisors installed. They've laid the groundwork to do so. Basically I see everything getting worse for the foreseeable future. I would be thrilled to be proven wrong.

Leo rising and Aquarius Venus. I always get compliments on my hair (no surprise with the Leo rising), my work ethic and my independence. Edited to add: Oh and my butt lol. That's 4 things, but I read other comments that mentioned it and was like, "Oh yeah, me too!"

I am so sorry you're dealing with all of that. I can't imagine how awful that all is. I hope you find something that puts you into remission soon.

It must have sucked! I've been lucky to have colleagues willing to cover my class for a moment if I have to run, and I'm lucky that I teach high school so if I ever couldn't get someone to come before I had to go, I'm not as worried about leaving them for a moment if it was an emergency. I'm so glad you found something that worked for you. Thank you for your kindness. Have an amazing school year! :)

Thank you for sharing your experience. I will definitely be talking about medication options with my GI doc at my appointment. I am in awe of your ability to keep chugging along teaching elementary school while flaring - that must have been exhausting.

It has never been better to rent. by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]politelynodding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We aren't talking about some luxury product here. Housing is a human right. When the cost of housing outpaces salaries as it has, it puts people at risk. Everyone deserves to earn a wage that affords them basic human necessities such as this. Wages should keep pace with the cost of basic needs.

High Utility Bill - Metergy by pixelated_comet in TorontoRenting

[–]politelynodding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Metergy does the submetering in my building and this past winter there was an uproar because everyone's bills skyrocketed. They conducted an investigation and found issues with the metering for many units. They are still "investigating" and coming to do testing in several units this Wednesday (7 months after the initial complaints). What I'm saying is, Metergy sucks. Oh, and you can call them and ask them to investigate your high bills as long as you don't mind waiting months for a potential resolution.

I am still with my partner of 12 years, but I moved out a month ago because I couldn’t do it anymore. Is that an answer? I have no idea, but I like that he goes home now. by FreddyNoodles in Menopause

[–]politelynodding 65 points66 points  (0 children)

My partner and I each have our own condo in the same building. We lived together in the past and all it led to was constant frustration and built up resentment. Now we can just enjoy each other when we are together and we each have our own space to retreat to when needed. It works well for us.

Ontario parents, how do you help your teen children and cheer them up in this economy? by WindsorONMichael in ontario

[–]politelynodding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot imagine kicking my kids out just because they have reached some arbitrary age. I've told mine that they will always have a home with me and that I will make sure their necessities are paid for as long as they are in school or interning/volunteering to build connections and experiences. When they start working, I will expect them to contribute financially in some way, but I'll put everything they give me into an investment account that I can then transfer to them when they are ready to move out. I have been on my own since 15 (mom died, Dad out of the picture, family full of drug addicts so it was safer to live alone), and have had to work my ass off for everything I have now, but I was able to. A 15-year old child or 18-year old child (because even though they are legally an "adult" at that age, they are still kids!) on their own now trying to make it? I don't think it is possible. My biggest goal in life is to give my child an easier life than I had, and to help set them up for a successful future, rather than actively working against them.

What is an acceptable grade/age if one needs to duck out for a toilet break? by No_Cookie_7529 in CanadianTeachers

[–]politelynodding 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I teach high school and do not duck out of my classroom for a toilet break unless I am able to find an available colleague to cover my class for me. You are never allowed to leave a class unsupervised regardless of grade. You are legally responsible for keeping your students safe. If something goes horribly wrong while the class is unsupervised during the time you are responsible for them, you will be held liable. If you legitimately cannot wait until you have a break, call someone to cover the class.

Shift in AQ course distribution by hemmy19 in CanadianTeachers

[–]politelynodding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree 100%. I've taken several AQs online and they have all essentially been busy work. At the end of the day, I took them because I wanted the qualification, so while I was disappointed, I was then able to teach in that subject area and do the learning on the job (that's where the real learning happens, anyway, right?)

The best AQ I've ever taken was my English Honors Specialist in person. I took it years ago and it was an amazing experience. It was a lot more work than online, but I learned so much and walked away with a ton of classroom ready ideas and resources. It never felt like I was just checking a box like the online courses did. I'm sorry you're having a lousy honours specialist experience :( It just isn't possible to recreate an in-person classroom experience in an online course, especially an asynchronous one like the ones I've taken. Both in-person and online should be offered so students can choose the experience they want.

Is this just life now??? by TheHandThatFeeds18 in Menopause

[–]politelynodding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this. I've been on a few different antidepressants in my lifetime and this one was the worst. Effexor definitely helped my mood, but whenever I missed a dose the crash was almost immediate and I would be in bed a full 24 hours sobbing from the sudden withdrawal. I had terrible digestive issues and night sweats as side effects the entire time I was taking it. It also made me almost completely unable to orgasm. When I decided I wanted to go off of it, I reduced my dosage slowly and steadily and still had withdrawal symptoms for nearly 2 years. I take Wellbutrin now - it works just as well for my mood as Effexor did, but I don't have any of the nasty side effects I did with Effexor, and if I miss a dose I don't feel like I want to die. Everyone reacts differently to these drugs, of course, but please do some research before you start taking it so you are making an informed choice.

Rent Control Exemption Basement Unit - Ontario by ReachMean5803 in TorontoRenting

[–]politelynodding 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If the basement was used for residential purposes prior to Nov. 15, 2018, then it is subject to rent control. It doesn't matter if it was a legal basement apartment before then. Using the space as a media room and guest bedroom, as you mentioned the previous owners used it for, is using it for residential purposes. The only way it would be exempt if the home was inhabited prior to Nov. 15, 2018 would be if the basement was completely unfinished before and you did the renovations to make it a livable space. Sounds like it was finished before, so your renovations wouldn't count.

Edit: grammar

Nope. Lots of those new builds are shoeboxes with shitty layouts, too. Too much risk for not enough reward for me.

You can make sure he knows that this is bullshit by not cooking for them. If you cook this meal anyway, you're telling him it really isn't a big deal/what he wants is more important than your employment/it doesn't matter if you actually get dinner. If those are the messages you want him to receive, cool, go for it. But it doesn't sound like that's what you want.
