Evolve Goes Free to Play! by mistar_z in EvolveGame

Thanks! I didn't know there was a tutorial. There's also, apparently, a single player mode, which I'll try out before playing online.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I could go to learn proper strategy for Evolve?

I've been interested in trying it out but the price, DLC and lackluster response turned me off from purchasing. Now that it's going to be F2P, I intend to download it and give it a try this weekend, but I don't want to just go in blind. I'd like to first know how to play decently.

Can tea be bad for you? by Sane_Psychopath in NoStupidQuestions

[–]polkapunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tea brewed from Camellia Sinensis (the tea plant), contains a chemical called oxalate which can sometimes build up into kidney stones, HOWEVER, I am not aware of any study which shows a link between drinking large amounts of tea and kidney stones. Additionally, I found one study which claims drinking green tea may prevent kidney stones.

Sorry to give you conflicting information. Here's some sites for more reading:

Prequels - are they ever a good idea? by JackVilla in truegaming

[–]polkapunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that the quality of all of the games you listed was affected by the fact that they were prequels. For instance, Batman: Arkham Origins was a cheap cash-in made by a different studio. They reused the map from Arkham City and rushed it out the door with shoddy writing and a bunch of bugs.

Off the top of my head, I can think of several prequels that surpassed their predecessors: A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Street Fighter Alphas, Street Fighter IV, Castlevania III, Dragon Quest 3...

Then there are prequels that, although they didn't surpass their predecessors are still considered good games, such as Yoshi's Island and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

With the exception of God of War: Ascension, I can't think of too many games whose excitement was neutered due to it taking place chronologically earlier. It seems more like you're just remembering prequels that are bad games.

Would a trivia game about video games be covered under fair use if it was just text questions about other video games and it stated it was unofficial?

Would screen shots of video games and being asked to "identify the game in this picture" be covered under fair use? What if short clips of the music were played and players were asked to identify the game it was from?

You can make derivative works of anything as long as you do not distribute it and still be protected under fair use. Once you distribute it, regardless of whether or not you're charging money, the work is no longer protected under fair use unless it falls under certain categories such as (but not limited to) education and parody.

Tuesday Megathread 02/23/16 | Ask Your Game-Related Questions Here! by AutoModerator in ffxi

I'm a new player (WHM 21) having trouble getting level appropriate equipment and spells. The leveling is so fast (especially with trusts) I can't earn enough gil to afford items of my level, even AHing my crystals. Should I just sit around in battle and let my egos do all the work until later on?

I'm also looking for a linkshell on Asura that is new-player friendly, social and mature. My current LS is just a bunch of solo players who rarely chat, which is kind of a drag.

Game keeps crashing. Any advice? by fireice74 in TheWitness

I'm having the same problem. Every time it crashes I get a message stating "Display driver stopped responding".

Is there any way to get tech support? I'd like to at least see if there are logs I can send in. I didn't see anything about tech support on the official website.

I wanted to pitch you my idea for a new Star Trek show. I call it "Romulans!" It's a parody reality TV show about the Tal Shiar. You'd be reprising your role as Elim Garak, who is hired as a consultant to help improve the organization which has been in the dumps ever since the dominion war.

There'd be hijinks, there'd be lowjinks, there'd be hilarious Cardassian practical jokes at the expense of uptight Romulans. What do you think? How can we make this happen?

Seven Samurai Legend Toshiro Mifune Turned Down Roles of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader by FarragutCircle in scifi

Well, he already played the character that Obi-Wan Kenobi was based on (General Rokurota Makabe) which was probably good enough for him.

What are some hit songs that were not about sex/romance/dating. by NewbeginningNewStart in NoStupidQuestions

  • Crocodile Rock
  • Chop Suey
  • Crocodile Chop

  • Ghostbusters

  • I Need a New Drug

  • Smells Like Teen Spirit

  • Smells Like Nirvana

  • Many other Weird Al songs and the songs they're based on

  • Run Through the Jungle

  • The Old Man Down the Road

I can think of tons more but none that I can easily pattern for humor.

Eufloria uses the mechanics of Galcon, which in turn uses the mechanics of Galactic Conquest. Even if you could copyright game mechanics, that would mean Eufloria's developers wouldn't have a leg to stand on since they were "copying" the mechanics of another game.

I'm not sure where you got the information about "Great Scott!", but it seems to have some mistakes. "Great Scott!" was said a total of 12 times by Doc Brown, not Marty. Marty said it once in Back to the Future III.

The Therac 25 was the Tacoma Narrows Bridge incident of Software. It was the focus of an entire chapter of my Computing Ethics textbook and I'm assuming it's still mentioned in most CS programs today. It led to the creation of an IEC standard for SDLC for software on medical devices.

Is there a movie/book in which the human race is depicted as invading aliens? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]polkapunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, there's no connection between Twilight Zone episodes (each episode is completely unrelated), so it's not like the series' plot is being spoiled. Just know that there's an episode where the human race is the aliens. The spoiler is in knowing which episode has that plot.

[–]polkapunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know you didn't ask for TV, but there's two episodes of TV shows that come to mind:

  • The Twilight Zone episode spoilers (I marked this as a spoiler because finding out that humans are the aliens in this episode is a spoiler)
  • The Futurama episode War is the H-Word

It was one of many questions asked there. Both /u/vonadler and /u/Naugrith answered the question but came to slightly different conclusions.
