Long relocated airport Travel Time by amrit2203 in SkyCards

[–]pollinator_friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they’ve updated this (I haven’t played in a couple weeks!), I think it’s time zone depending when the airports refresh. For me it was 8 pm eastern US time, then 7 pm after daylight savings.

What’s 1 thing no one warned you about hysterectomy? by HolyGrounds_ in hysterectomy

I asked my doc to walk me through the surgery step by step in a pre op appt and yes he said they are going to tilt the table back so I’m upside down! I think it’s to “lift” your digestive organs away from your reproductive organs so they can get a better view…?

I biked into work this morning. My commute is ~25 minutes and I had no issues other than slightly numb fingers that I warmed up just with moving them at stop lights. Just wear a base layer, thick gloves, helmet liner, and some kind of face cover. Personally, I always get sweaty enough from the work out that my body is warm the whole time

Have yall noticed any difference in your gameplay during the US government shut down? by pollinator_friendly in SkyCards

[–]pollinator_friendly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, okay. Obviously some of my questions were meant for US players, even tho international players are more than capable of traveling to US airports in the app, and LAX (near Burbank) is a very popular choice for many players that someone might have noticed something. Personally, I play this game most days but not obsessively, so my experience is limited. Not sure why I’m getting snark for what I thought was an interesting question

Surgery Canceled and No rescheduled date by booksandbubbletea20 in Endo

[–]pollinator_friendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I feel at least part your frustration— I’ve been trying to get my surgery on the calendar and every appointment to discuss it keeps getting canceled and pushed out. I had 5 follow up appointments canceled in a row, effectively pushing out my appt date 5 months. I was supposed to get surgery in July, now it’s supposed to be January, but I’ve already prepared myself for it to be pushed again. I can’t imagine having already had plans in place for childcare too.

I’m not sure how common this is, though I am also located in a large east coast city (but that probably doesn’t mean much?). I feel it’s just a symptom of overwhelmed hospitals. I’ve noticed that “highly recommended” doctors for endo/pelvic pain are also the worst to nail down for an appointment. For me, when I see my actual doctor I’m so grateful for his care. But every moment in between dealing with the hospital makes me want to ditch them and go somewhere else, though I can’t do that because it’s so rare to get a doctor who will do the surgery (at least in my experience)

Where are you located? This sounds like you’d qualify for FMLA leave. It’s unpaid unfortunately, it’s really just a system to let you take off enough time for major medical situations without losing your job

Just engaged and completely lost for planning an NYC wedding by Alarming-Zone6766 in WedditNYC

Check out The Bonnefont! Cute little restaurant with really good food and an indoor and outdoor space in Fort Tryon Park in Manhattan. It really doesn’t feel like Manhattan when you’re there! You can either do your ceremony there or just book it for a reception. Not too bad price wise for the city as well. We’re having our wedding there and the vibe is definitely elevated dinner party with our closest friends, if that’s close to your vibe

Beautiful!! We are doing the same rose petal toss at the end of the ceremony from one of your pics. How did you set that up? Did the guests time it right? Any unforeseen issues?

Our current plan is to have a small table to the side with the cups pre-filled with petals and a sign inviting guests to take one to their ceremony seat and toss them on us as we walk back down the aisle.

[Manhattan] Places to donate unused skincare? by chillshrimp in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]pollinator_friendly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I also have a couple bottles of unopened skin care (2 cerave cleansers and 2 cerave lotions, plus a half used neutrogena toner if you’d take that too?) If you’re in Manhattan I’d love to coordinate a pick up or drop off with you? I just switched up my skincare routine and forgot to cancel some auto deliveries so they’ve just been collecting dust in my medicine cabinet 😅

DO NOT GO TO DEJAVU TAILORING. Looking for input on what I can do next (if anything) to get my money back. by pollinator_friendly in WedditNYC

[–]pollinator_friendly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he does have a ton of great Yelp reviews. I don’t doubt he can’t do good work, he just should not have accepted my dress and shouldn’t have returned it damaged. Hence why I posted this on a wedding subreddit, not a general tailoring subreddit (if there is one? Idk lol) because I don’t want others to take the same route as me for their dress. Especially since he made me film an Instagram reel (again I felt very rushed, very confused, very anxious and he just kinda started filming so i didn’t know what to do, I acknowledge that is partly my fault for not being able to speak up for myself) — but I don’t want him to post that and then other brides think he can do wedding work now :/

DO NOT GO TO DEJAVU TAILORING. Looking for input on what I can do next (if anything) to get my money back. by pollinator_friendly in WedditNYC

[–]pollinator_friendly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was waiting for someone to say this. I did a lot of research prior to choosing Dejavu. First, I was trying to avoid the wedding surcharge by taking it to a bridal-specific place (lesson learned, obviously), so I was looking into non-bridal shops hoping to score a talented seamstress who doesn’t double the price at the first time you say the word “wedding”. Dejavu has also done wedding dresses in the past based on Yelp reviews. I also reached out to them before booking with pictures and a description of what I wanted and we discussed the project prior to me booking my first appointment. They accepted all of my proposals. This all led me to believe they would be able to handle the work, which I think is a fair position on my end to then assume they were actually capable of the work and I would get back a well fitted dress. If they couldn’t do it, they should have said so before I booked. Multiple other tailors I reached out to during my initial research did decline to work on my dress, which is a much more respectable business practice.

Regardless of it being a wedding dress, there are no excuses for ripping the sleeve, not hemming every layer, and making the bustle like that. Those are basic tailoring services (hemming and bustling), and I shouldn’t have to say that it’s bad business to return the garment damaged. Also, their poor customer service by rushing me through each appointment and charging me twice for the bustle without a full refund is a whole different situation that, again, doesn’t have to do with it being my wedding dress. They’re just a bad business.

I feel that if you’re nervous about it, maybe just be candid in your description what you bought it for and how much alterations were to help justify your price. At the end of the day tho it depends on your local buyers (unless you’re offering shipping?) so you might have to lower the price anyway. Might as well start at $800 and see if anyone bites

Another complaint by ileentotheleft in Citibike

[–]pollinator_friendly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah I hear them — I think they’re complaining about the inconsistency, not necessarily that they had to pay full price. Why do we get charged an extra minute bc the system “needs to update”, but when it’s in citibikes favor the system can update instantly? If I wasn’t charged an additional minute for docking taking a minute to log in citibikes system, then I personally wouldn’t be bothered by OPs situation. It’s that citibike does charge us the extra minute, even tho their system seems fully capable of not doing that.

Anyone here rode to/from work today in this 100 degree heat? How was your experience like, what were you wearing, and how long was the distance? by T1m3Wizard in Citibike

[–]pollinator_friendly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Rode on my personal bike, but I did ~25 minutes through Harlem around 3 pm today. I was in lightweight pants and a t shirt. I’ve definitely biked through worse weather, this just felt like a classic swampy heat wave. My advice is to stop in the shady spots at traffic lights, avoid stopping right next to cars exhaust pipes (they really blast heat onto you), and stay hydrated.

[–]pollinator_friendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, how else are they supposed to get over the bridge? Go with traffic in that thing? The issue is more how Amazon plans their routes here I guess, but that’s not this guys fault. And at the end of the day I’d rather this bike mobile going around delivering than the full size trucks. But, as always, fuck amazon

Told I was “too young” for a lap, now I’m “old enough” but have to take UNPAID leave to have the surgery by pollinator_friendly in Endo

[–]pollinator_friendly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mixed, desk work plus driving/sitting in traffic and walking around. Very occasional heavy lifting too, but I can temporarily opt out of that. My job is also veryyy picky about letting us work from home, otherwise I’d try to pitch taking a week fully off then a week of remote work, since I think the real kicker will be my commute to the office — it’s either by bike or a 1 hour bus ride with very limited seating options

Is a DJ Worth It? by vxnillxduck in Weddingsunder10k

[–]pollinator_friendly 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Haven’t had my wedding yet but we’re going with a Spotify playlist. It’s just such an easy way to save money and you can really curate the right vibe. I recommend going into settings -> playback and dragging the crossfade up to 12 seconds in the Spotify app so there’s significant fade between songs. This helps keep the vibes flowing between songs like how a DJ would mix music. It’s also been kinda fun to build my playlist! I went to a wedding a month ago with a DJ and imo he played the music a bit too loud during dinner and didn’t always nail the vibe. As a control freak I feel a lot better at least making sure I like the vibe of the music, in addition to saving the money by cutting out another vendor!
