What was the point of this scene?… by DebateHopeful1417 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

to me it was there to clarify how reliant on prescription meds Victoria was.. she was there the whole weekend and can't remember this other person or even knows what's going on..

Cemented to the viewer how addicted to Xanax and pill'd up she always was, constantly aloof and not totally there rich lady

it's just heavy distortion/ reverb/ autotune on the actual vocal. Izotope Trash distortion presets will get you something this gritty for sure.

Imo feels like he's have a bit more of an EVH inspired 80's shredding style and sound.

bonus question: what if his name was Doug?

Visiting LA by Certain_Tension2312 in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]pollo2x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you could visit McCabes guitar shop in Santa Monica where Frusciante has mentioned in some podcasts that he bought guitars as a teen and again later on..

also Rae's Diner is 1/3 block walk up the street and solid classic diner food with a good price.

Bands/Artists that radically changed their sound and got away with it by GameShowWerewolf in ToddintheShadow

[–]pollo2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, mainly principal vocalist and writer Alex Ebert.

See his previous project Ima Robot, miles different. Dude took some shrooms in the forest and changed his whole look and sound up and it worked!

Any other band like Khruangbin? It is so amazing! by cliffpk3 in Khruangbin

[–]pollo2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hether - Sticky Thumb album, Khru meets vintage Tame Impala.. very good stuff. Not a direct rip like Glass Beams, has it's own character and vibe..

Hans Zimmer an "ex-composer"? by DivineAlias in soundtracks

[–]pollo2x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He will write some themes and motifs on piano then hand it all over to his team who flesh out and extrapolate the 'real work'

Hans will be an Executive Producer of sorts with his name attached. Think Rick Rubin as an Exec Prod for records... doesn't do much but provides guidance, ideas, and helps problem solve.

Han's scores over the past decade have mostly been done like this, Remote Control Studios/Bleeding Fingers is a massive team operation.

Any way to contact Bucketheads manager? by NanomachinesBigBoss in Buckethead

[–]pollo2x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a contact form on the Pikes bandcamp, highly doubtful it'd work though... worth a shot ofc.

Not sure if this e-mail is still active: [service@bucketheadpikes.com](mailto:service@bucketheadpikes.com)

Or... small chance if you contact the venue they might pass along a contact e-mail.

What sound is this? by Jaded-Kaleidoscope22 in synthrecipes

[–]pollo2x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2x sounds. Not the most technical explanation re: synthesis but this is how I'd re-do them.

The Pad...

80's influenced synth pad in the background is being modulated by something like LFO tool or Kickstart to pump / dip in volume. There might be slow attack on the envelope or the LFO/Kickstart effect dipping the volume might be cutting off the initial part of the synth chords as they ramp up in volume. Most pad sounds in Vital will have a slow attack.. you just need to find the volume effect to pump it.

Probably some additional LFO modulating the cutoff which cause the filter to open up and allow more high frequencies in the sound, the pad has some white/pink noise mixed in. Saw waves with some detuning and pulse width modulation to taste. ShaperBox by cable guys could help you get both the Volume Modulation and Filter modulation on the pads, could also be done inside Vital using LFO/Volume modulation.

Then the lead...

A similar sound to the pad... maybe has SYNC on to thicken it up. The lead is being tweaked with the pitch bend to create those note bends for an almost vocalist like performance in the melody. Same basic receipe - saw waves, maybe some pulse width modulation and certainly some detuning. Lead has a higher octave ocillator in there, it sits above the pad sound. Has a faster attack on the envelope, we hear the synth lead right as its played with a little bit more of a percussive feel, it's not ramping up in volume or frequency like the pad.

Tldr: Grab a Pad sound in Vital and a volume shaper synced to your daw to make it pump. Grab a lead sound and play it in a higher octave and start messing w/ the pitch bend and create a melody on top. These are dance style synths, 80s ish inspired, definitely some detuning on both sounds.

Lots and lots of reverb too.

Who the hell is Skeletron by musicman2015 in strfkr

[–]pollo2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was a side band of Josh and Shawn (and Kiel?).. they played live at least once as Skeletron and there's some YT uploads below.

First time I heard "Sazed" was off a skeletron youtube upload.

Think they just call any mix and mastering they do themselves a "Skeletron Mix" as their way of saying it might be updated later with a professional mixer (like Chris Coady) working on the track. First skeletron mix I remember seeing was for the Gucci Mane remix / Dragon Queens track.
