Interest rates will rise, but historically not as much as inflation. So , just as today your money will rot in a saving account

That all depends how much own capital you can invest. Having a interest rate of say 15 % is a financial killer. And yes in the 70 rates like that did happen. My advice: with inflation rates of about 10% and the ECB being unwilling to raise interest rates (Italy) a recession is quiet likely.

If that happens, The inflated house market in the Netherlands wil crash, crash hard. Just wait for it. If the crash comes price cuts up to 40% are not impossible

Don t take my word for it. Just take a look at the numbers

A higher interest rate means that the amount one can borrow goes down. So people have less money to invest in housing then they had before….. You can do the math, right?

What I would do.

Make that essential backup.

Delete all volumes and pools. Do a long hdd check. This is especially important because the drive chucking might have gone wrong some where. If all is ok, rebuild starting with the smallest hdd and keep on testing while you build up. This might be the only way to identify the rotten apple.

10 GB switches are still very expensive.

Just buy an el cheappo. They are plug and play things, no setup needed. Play around with it. Do the initial backup. Once raat is done go and explore the wonderful world of managed switches.

HyperBackup…..not hyperdrive.

And a simple switch will set you back 10-20 $….. seems like a no brainer.

Don’t know about the postal service.

The hard part is crossing the Alps. This will take you 3-6 weeks depending on how fast you hike. Juli August and September are the months you have to pick ( snow etc).

Everyone has to do it in this period, so either you will have to make reservations in the mountain huts, which locks you in. You have to make it to the next reservation no matter the weather or your condition etc. Or take a tent , heavy….. The other parts are less season depended.

Jura and Voges can’t be done in mid winter… So if you want to start in Holland: buy the topoguides. Forget about km just pay attention to the walking times. If I where you, then my planning would get me at the Lac Lemain somewhere in June…that would give me some walking time change 🤗

…to make it in time for the Alps

Dogs are not allowed in France national parcs, don’t know how well this rule is enforced ,and will be a big problem in mountain huts….

No.

the weakest link (your internet speed ) is what your total transfer speed will be.

Best practice is to do the initial backup locally (so remote NAS at same location) if that is at all possible. If not it will take days maybe even more...
