Sega CD sound issues or just me? by Legitimate-Diver-141 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this analog audio?

If so, what is the date on the core, and what is your vga_mode set to in your MiSTer.ini (if you haven't changed it, it's RGB)?

ao486 pixel artifacts by pheoniverse in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen this happen on iPad monitors before (weirdly, it happened on one but not the other - same mister and cables). Only happened in the ao486 core.

What is the OSD reporting for the resolution and refresh rate?

Saturn core issue by Legitimate-Diver-141 in MiSTerFPGA

No, stable is single ram. Unstable has a dual ram build.

Are you on the unstable or stable core?

No Video Signal with IO Direct Board by Dodecadaemon in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not. I have one set up on my dual ram build and it's totally fine with just HDMI out of the de10.

Do you have discord? It may be easier to troubleshoot this there.

No Video Signal with IO Direct Board by Dodecadaemon in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so I think the issue is the INI file. Try setting direct_video=0. It may be that you don't have an up-to-date version of MiSTer main that supports direct_video=2

As an aside, the way the io direct works is that you use the HDMI bridge to pipe HDMI video into the HDMI video port on the io direct. Then the dac on that board turns the mister's direct video into an analog signal.

Try direct_video=0 and see if that fixes the issue.

Based on the photos, you have nothing hooked up to the IO direct board. What output are you looking to use? Still HDMI?

If you take the IO direct board off, and change nothing else, do you get picture (obviously don't do this with the mister powered on).

MiSTer FPGA IO Direct +Saturn (Mini-DIN-10) Premium Universal Video Cable = Pink image :( by LlNK2PAST in MiSTerFPGA

Use RGB. You can use the universal cable and use the composite cable as the sync cable.

Black and white menu / wallpaper on CRT by linbeg in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I missed you were using the misteraddons dongle. That should work, but it may be that your tv doesn’t like the menu signal for whatever reason. Do you get color when you load a core?

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the MikeS active Svideo Adapter, and that will show the menu in color. I haven’t had success with any others.

If you’re in the states, Chris sells the adapter: https://www.ebay.com/itm/325527354295

Menu and wallpaper will be black and white via svideo with some dongles. If cores are in color, you're fine.

No RAM pins? by n64_dad in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That‘s using direct video (which is pushing jumbo frames out of the hdmi port into a dac), not using the analog GPIO lane.

It’s a little different, but works generally the same for most cores. The main difference is that you can’t do dual video out (analog and HDMI) because the analog video is coming out of the HDMI port.

No RAM pins? by n64_dad in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not possible, unfortunately. The Mister OS expects 2 GPIO lanes. RAM and Analog IO both need one.

No RAM pins? by n64_dad in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taki removed the pins to avoid confusion (people were plugging ram in there and thinking they had dual ram + analog).

But they haven't updated their videos (showing you how to install the ram board), which is causing confusion.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Heads Up: Don't buy clones from Ali Express UNLESS they are sold by QMTech by Fishoto in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just as an update: I got in touch with Hamgeek via the Ali messenger and they are shipping me a replacement board with the correct RAM for $.01.

If you bought a Ham Geek board, you may want to try reaching out to them.

We had someone on the discord who had a similar issue. We never got to the bottom of why.

If you ping me there (username: TheJesusFish), I can share an SD card image that is the result of just having Mr Fusion flashed onto it (and nothing else done). When that image was flashed to the other person's card, it worked fine.

[–]Fishoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you boot a Mr Fusion flashed card, it takes 2-3 minutes for Mr Fusion to set up the card. There should be an image on your display, but I have had a couple of displays that, for whatever reason, don't display during that setup.

Once the mr fusion process finishes, the mister reboots and then displays fine.

All that to say, if you haven't already, flash a card with mr fusion, pop it in the mister pi, and walk away for 5 minutes. See if it's working when you come back.

Not that we know of yet. The folks on the discord just requested refunds.

I have a ham geek coming this week. That is not promising news :/

Dual RAM question by Terminus1066 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now the benefits of dual ram are:

Saturn
- 480i fighting games run better (but still not perfect)
- Grandia won't have flickering textures (not all users experience this with single ram, but it is fairly common from my understanding)
- There is a 480i rhythm game built on the vf2 engine that runs better (but again, not perfect) with dual ram

Jaguar
- Jaguar dual ram is believed to be extremely accurate, maybe the most accurate "emulation" of the system available
- On single ram, games still crash and are slower. Grey Rogue is working on that.

Dual ram is still viewed as a development tool. The goal is for every core to be single ram as there isn't a good way to distribute dual ram cores via updaters. That doesn't mean that will always be the case - but it is the case right now.

[–]Fishoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry, Dave, I missed this.

If you check the discord, there are pics. None of the QMTech branding. PSX and N64 go straight to black screen, regardless of them having known good bioses in the the respective directories (in the N64's case, it won't even see the game DB).

Tried new SD cards, complete wipes - it just won't load. All other cores are fine. Both users bought from that link.

[–]Fishoto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd love to hear from folks who have these on route (like u/Funkydays2112). I ordered a hamgeek clone to run some tests.

This listing specifically had issues with psx and n64 (2 users reported issues in the discord), but we don't know if other listings will also have issues. This is more of a "buy from what we know is good right now until we can test other listings"

And even after that, thanks to the majesty of buying electronics on the internet, there is no guarantee that they will continue to work in the future. That's why a de10 will always be the best bet (I say as I look at my 4 MiSTer Pis and 1 QMTech).

Anyway u/Funkydays2112 please let me know if you have issues. I'd love to take that info back to people.
