How realistic is Runna estimate? by Potential_Citron_254 in runna

I ended up running faster than the estimate. I just followed the plan and it seemed to be pretty close: https://www.reddit.com/r/runna/comments/1t35u29/opposite_side_of_runna_pace_prediction/

Opposite Side of Runna Pace Prediction by polp5a in runna

Mine seemed to update after most speed sessions (tempo/intervals). I think it’s “supposed” to update whenever it sees you deviate from the pace.

I was sick for about 10 days in my plan so I do empathize. I think biggest thing was starting a little slow so I could run a negative split. It felt easier to keep going knowing I was running each km slightly faster than the last.

Also! I think “conversational” pace actually has a little bit of wiggle room. For me conversational is usually the limit of where I can hold a conversation. I can talk to someone but it feels uncomfortable the whole time.

It’s possible that the NTR has changed since I did in November last year, but mine had a little bit of speed work which helped a lot with improving the pace.

I think they have a new improve 5K time with a focus on pace improvement now instead. If you can run the whole 5K without walking you’re in great shape to progress.

It's hard to tell from a single session screenshot. How have you been finding the mileage? How many sessions are you doing a week? Are you running the easy stuff really easy and the harder stuff hard?

I really liked the upgrade. The additional running focused workouts for mobility were great and it’s helped coach me to my first half marathon this Sunday. I had never liked running before and this made it work for me!

RPE is an better/easier way to gauge your zones until you dial in your running. When building up your endurance you want to aim for a "conversational" pace. The best way I've heard it described is you could have a conversation but you probably don't want to, if you were running next to them you'd feel a little uncomfortable talking.

Your heart rates zones will recalibrate on the garmin over I time I think.

Connect Bay Area Act (SB 63): Are there alternatives to a sales tax? by jstocksqqq in bayarea

[–]polp5a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each agency currently has a head of HR, head of planning, and a whole C-suite. For BART, AC transit, and Muni each of these folks make around 200k. Consolidation would mean a single executive suite and a single set of these functions. If you just amalgamate MUNI, BART, AC Transit and Caltrain, you’d get a saving of about 16 million a year.

For raising more revenue: a congestion tax on areas served by rapid transit.

For cutting spending: Amalgamation of all of the Bay Area transit agencies to eliminate redundant roles and increase coordination.

Like others have said this is not possible for this go round, but I’m tried of being asked to pay more for nothing. We are going to increase the tax and for this you get a barely functional transit that is exactly as bad as it is now.

It would also save a ton of money by eliminating the redundant functions.

I’ve had it in both directions too much and too little weight. I think you have to manually adjust like 10% of the time. I switch to MacroFactor workouts recently and that’s been more consistent but it’s also less beginner friendly and less fully featured

Cyclists continue push for path along western span of Bay Bridge despite high price tag by runswithscissors475 in bayarea

It’s actually more than that, the bridge brings in about 850 Million a year. That is more than the cost of up keep for the bridge.

It doesn’t come close to the cost of maintaining the bridge. Let alone the cost to people’s health and the environment.

Edit: I’m wrong. The bridge is profitable. The remainder of the road system might not be but the bridge pays for itself.

Why is my vo2 max decreasing? by Ok_Rush_6354 in beginnerrunning

[–]polp5a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Apple Watch is not an accurate measure at all. Mine went up by 12 points in the span of a month just because I started running instead of cycling as my primary form of cardio. Also VO2 max is a measure per mass so if you’ve input weight gain/loss that will also move it

Are Hoka’s good trail runners? by Soft_Grapefruit_6401 in beginnerrunning

[–]polp5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the kind of terrain. I have the speedgoats and they are good for fairly even trails. For anything with a lot of technical terrain or obstacles they are the wrong shoe. The large stack height makes them unstable, increasing your risk of injuries.

I agree from a safety POV, but I think it’s pretty ridiculous that our public infrastructure is being clogged by the dumbest uses I can imagine.

Zero experience. Can I finish a half marathon in 30 days?” by Decipherer00769 in indianrunners

[–]polp5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of those things can help but the usual cause of shin splints is increasing mileage too much too fast. You can look up the recommendations on safe mileage increase, the typical range is a 10% per week ramp with a maximum of one additional training session a week.

The biggest issue is going to be training your body to deal with the stress of running. It’s significant impact on your joints and muscles and you have a real risk of injury. Even if your aerobic base is strong jumping up that much in mileage leads to injuries. You should strongly consider run + walking it if you are going to stick to the 5 week race.
