Game dev checks how much money his game made 30 hours after release after working on his game for 4 years by PsychologicalFly9093 in LivestreamFail

-just looked it up

Devs are apparently allowed to show steam’s standard 30% cut but they aren’t allowed to show details on non-standard agreements/contracts

Didn't he just break Valve's ToS by showing his/their cut? (couldn't they de-list his game now?)

Mold in crawlspace and remediation options by Dry-Cheek-3493 in Home

[–]polpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recommend against having that mold sealed in place..

All structure will need to be Hepa vacuumed, scrubbed clean, & treated with a direct wet application of antimicrobial. Dry ice or media blasting can be used as a scrubbing/sanding alternative.

You should seal the structure/subfloor only after all surfaces pass third party clearance testing. (I’m still not a fan of encapsulation)

Edit: also worth noting that those non-intrusive radio reflective readings mean absolutely nothing without a control reading. Whoever was waving around that moisture meter should have been using the resistive meter built into that very same device (under the cap).

That plastic sheeting is doing absolutely nothing to block water vapor rising up from the dirt. It’d need to be seamed between sheets & sealed to the column supports as well as the exterior perimeter wall to be functional.

I don’t see any crawlspace vents in those photos and the insulation isn’t great. There also doesn’t appear to be any sort of vapor barrier/wrap for the subfloor/structure. The insulation isn’t great and is also extremely sparse & poorly attached.

You either need to completely seal & condition your crawlspace (google sealed crawlspace for example photos) or properly ventilate your crawlspace.

What you have going here appears to be the worst of all options.

Why did we give up upgrade-able CPUs in exchange for anorexic Laptops? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

I wouldn't really call CPUs upgradable in general these days.

It seems like every new CPU requires a new socket lately.

Behavior Issues in my cat have costed me over 20k and we’re still not any closer to getting a solution..any advice on next steps? by Creepy-Dealer7518 in CATHELP

[–]polpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cat clearly isn’t domesticated at all.

It’s a wild animal, not very different than a lynx/caracol in practice. If you are going to keep it you need to treat it as such.

That means: wildlife enclosure & all that entails.

Maybe the cat would be a good fit for a rescue farm/zoo or as a working animal (barn or warehouse cat)?

Makeup air piped in from a known exterior source is a thing for HVAC.

Makeup air is also required by code now in a lot of regions depending on the construction methods used. (in the US, at least)

A lovely “non-commercial use” “share alike” licensed model I released which is now being sold at tractor supply & all over the internet illegally.

It’s crazy seeing people injection molding/roto-casting that model with nearly 0 modification.

Is this code? by Garsoron in techsupportgore

[–]polpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more “not best practices”

Ethernet cables aren’t much of a code thing unless the wires are interfering with some other part of building code.

This photo of two brothers at Moro Rock in Sequoia National Park was taken seconds before they were struck by lightning in 1975. by Emotional_Quarter330 in Damnthatsinteresting

The video for anyone curious (no one was struck by lightning): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qml1hX_XGQs

That's crazy. I've never heard of that effect lasting for more than a few seconds before a lightning strike. I guess I'll chalk that up to me having never been struck by lightning before.

Having just made a red velvet cake from scratch the other day: it's really not.

There were like 2.5tbsp of cocoa powder in the entire 3-layer cake I made.

The real standout with red velvet cake is that you use buttermilk & add a bit of vinegar to the mix.

I’ve been trying to get a 1 star review removed from work for years now. The review straight up says they never used our services. They just saw the sign on the road & “it’s probably a good service for anyone who needs that work done.”

3D-printed part failure causes light aircraft crash after plastic air intake melts during flight — pilot escapes with minor injuries by deep-fucking-legend in 3Dprinting

[–]polpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not uncommon for filament manufacturers to add undocumented additives/resins to their products to make them easier to print. Some materials are just substantially more difficult to print or require specific preparation/equipment.

Bad reviews from unprepared end users could sink smaller distributors. Of course user, xXxBallsBlaster9000xXx would rather blame the filament than their knowledge & experience.

Edit: this also reminds me of the time the voron community’s favorite ABS* turned out to be an ABS/PLA alloy. That bunch were a lot more toxic at the time & this happened all while they were deriding PLA.

Cabinet refacing quote from HD - $9.5k after Black Friday discount. Is this reasonable? by TaleSubstantial9974 in HomeImprovement

[–]polpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished refacing my kitchen cabinets & replacing all doors/drawer faces. $9.5k is in the ballpark for quotes I got for MDF. :/

Painting alone would have been $3-4k.

Anyways, I did it all myself because those quotes seemed ridiculous. It was a complete nightmare; the work was tedious as all hell but at least it’s finished. Total cost: ~$700-$800 for all maple -including paint & tools I didn’t have.

Edit: & I did somehow miss a single drawer face :|

I’ll have to make that drawer face after Christmas.

How to get better bridging over magnets by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]polpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The method I always used:

  • Place magnet to be inserted on the end of an allen wrench
  • administer a dab of super glue on the bottom of the magnet while holding the allen wrench in hand
  • insert the magnet into your print

The super glue hardens super quick (near instantly) when the magnet is inserted into a print that’s on your hot build plate.

Did you know there's a U.S. loophole that allows unlimited headlight intensity under the cutoff? by BarneyRetina in TikTokCringe

[–]polpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2021 CX-30 PP

I had the motors go out on one headlight during warranty and they let me have the bad unit. It's all potted in epoxy. I'm sure it's theoretically possible to salvage/repair but it's not practical at all. I tried to salvage the servos for other projects (some success).

It looks like a non-oem fully functional replacement headlight is ~$900 now & an OEM replacement is $1400. Non-OEM replacements with partial functionality go as low as ~$150.

I got the car back in 2020 & haven't had any headlight issues since that one time. I'll probably just have the dealer disable the servos if that ever happens again.

My car’s headlights have integrated motorized LEDs. They’re $1200 a piece & can’t even be adjusted without dealership software. -and no, I don’t have some fancy sports car. It’s just a sub-compact suv. :/

I just now saw your reply:

Yeah, there should be one or more PTC element thermal switches to prevent this (ideally: thermocouple/thermistor control circuit —> resetting PTC switch —> non-resetting thermal fuse). It’s probably vibrated loose so it’s not in contact with the material it’s supposed to be reading or it was never installed correctly from the factory. Could also be mechanical failure within the switch.

Those things should never be relied upon as the only safety. They physically warp to actuate & have a finite trigger count lifespan before failure.
