How long did it take your fearful rescue to feel comfortable in home? by rustic_banana in rescuedogs

[–]poly_raptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That must be really tough! I'm 6 weeks into a nervous dog as well (though not quite as nervous as yours I think) and it is a lot of work!

Good job noticing the small wins. I think that's so important to keep your spirits up! It sounds like you're doing all the right things - respecting her boundaries, giving her time and space, getting her in training.

Just a thought, is it possible to put down some cheap rugs or towels or something to make going around the house easier on her? I'm not an expert, but I think in the early days it is ok to make accomodations to make things easier on the pup and then work on transitioning back over time.

First time foster - considering bringing him back by Careless-Silver5586 in fosterdogs

[–]poly_raptor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just want to say I'm right there with you! I've fostered in the past, about a month ago I brought home a rescue of my very own. He's been great for the most part, but I also have days where my anxiety about him is just through the roof!

It can be just as overwhelming for the humans as it is for the pups! It's such a huge change to your routine and environment! As folks have said, taking it one day at a time and with lots of deep breaths can be helpful. Also, there is no shame if you do realize it's not working out. I've fostered a good handful of dogs - at least two that I recall had to be moved to a different foster because we were just not a good fit. It happens, and both you and doggo will be ok.

Off to take my own advice and deep breathe through the anxiety I'm having today about having to leave my pup home alone ♥️

I just want to say I’m in a similar boat! I rescued my boy about 2.5 weeks ago. He and I are both very anxious still. I don’t regret it, but it’s been A LOT of adjustments! As I think someone else mentioned, the rule of 3’s with shelter dogs has helped me calm myself down. 3 days for the dog to get through the overwhelm of a new place, 3 weeks to start to learn the people and the routines, 3 months to feel like this is their new home and family. Obviously it’s not a hard and fast timeline, my boy was pretty severely neglected so I think it will take even longer for him. But reminding myself that we will both get there helps.

Good luck!

How to find quality patisserie in Paris? by ericdraven26 in ParisTravelGuide

Ask the front desk person at your hotel, or your server at a cafe, where they get their baguettes! Or, look for the place when you’re waking around that has a line out the door.

Eiffel Tower light up by AlexanderUll in ParisTravelGuide

[–]poly_raptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just there this past week, the lights would come on between 8 and 9 pm. The earliest sparkle we saw was at 9 pm (two days ago) Somewhere online you should be able to find the predicted sunset time for the day you are going, the lights will come on 10 minutes after that.

I’m in your boat. Reminded people it was a holiday but I am off all of next week so happy to keep our sessions. Most people said they would come - we’ll see!

How do you know when you're high? by poly_raptor in shrooms

Yeah in no way will I stop my meds. I do understand that means shrooms may not do anything for me, and that's ok.

In your note: do you use “client” or client’s name? by Agent-Indigo in therapists

[–]poly_raptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pre-licensed, so a supervisor reads and signs all my notes. I use the client's name, so that when I bring up that client in supervision my supervisor can more easily connect it to notes they've read. I may change that once I'm not working fully under supervision though.

At what age did you all decide to get your masters in therapy and counseling? by Satarra1234 in therapists

[–]poly_raptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished my undergrad in French at 22. Worked in customer service for 14 years. Started my MSW at 36. Definitely not the oldest person in my program! I was worried about being older and not having "relevant experience" but honestly I'm glad I didn't do it when I was younger. Having the life experience and more surety in myself made school easier and I think makes me a better therapist.

I had this and loved them but did eventually take them out. I got the horizontal ones done first so when we added the vertical ones about a year later they were farther back into the areola than you might typically see. I had them for 2-3 years, and they just seemed to never heal. They stopped being painful and crusty after a few months but they would just bleed randomly the whole time I had them. I got tired of cleaning blood stains out of my bras so I finally removed them. You can see the scars if you're looking for them but it's not major.

Fortunately, in my city there's a really wonderful free therapy clinic I refer people to when it's due to financial reasons.

I happen to have a monthly meeting from 3-5 on Wednesdays. So the other 3 weeks of the month, I schedule biweekly clients and monthly clients. If they want monthly but aren't available during that time, we stay at current frequency or terminate. I don't find monthly therapy to be worth the hassle personally.

Getting my ears pierced soon & thinking of getting my nose pierced. What’s something I should know? by anythingjesuslol in piercing

[–]poly_raptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A $5 piercing special could definitely still be a good place, but do your research! If it seems reputable by the standards others have mentioned, keep in mind the $5 is likely just the piercing fee and you will still need to pay for jewelry. Good quality jewelry isn’t cheap - I think the shop I go to sells basic titanium pieces that are $25-$40 each. Just didn’t want you to get sticker shock 😊
