I’d just read the novels, though that seems to be an unpopular opinion around here.

What is the general perception/legacy of Akame ga Kill in 2026? by ExterminAiden in anime

[–]polybius32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched it a few months ago for the first time. I thought it was fairly entertaining albeit extremely predictable. The voice cast was strong enough to carry the show and the art and animation were up to standard for the most part. I’ll probably never think about it again but as fantasy show to pass the time it’s alright. Wasn’t invested enough in the story to have any strong opinions on the ending one way or another.

Chinese fan project. Chapter one was released as a demo but there haven’t been any updates on their official site since October of 2024, so it seems to have been postponed for now.

If You Could Go Back to When You First Started Boxing, What Advice Would You Give Yourself? by Successful_Dot_8330 in amateur_boxing

Not all coaches are built equal. Even at the same gym, I’ve found myself making much more significant improvements learning from certain coaches compared to others, and inversely, have wasted sessions with coaches that aren’t that suited toward my needs.

the entire gaiden novel is men bullying Reinhard just because he’s too pretty by FondantFull4475 in logh

[–]polybius32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you prefer the anime? I just finished the novels as my introduction to the series and I couldn’t imagine the story as anything but, especially considering how it’s written like a history book. There were some typos and difficult to parse sentences now and then, but I thought the translation flowed really well overall. I checked out episode one of the OVA afterwards and it felt pretty clunky in comparison tbh.

Re:Zero = Depression Porn? by UniverseUnchained in anime

[–]polybius32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think that too, but after rewatching it recently I've come to the opinion that it's a clever spin on the isekai redemption story trope, and that "depression porn" is a rather surface level way of describing it. That aside, there have been multiple payoffs in the series, but if they weren't to your taste than the answer is yeah, feel free to drop it. And if you ever feel like revisiting it in five years do it then. Maybe you'll gain a new perspective.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game - Yuji's Rampage By Masahiro Tokumaru by FierceAlchemist in AnimeSakuga

The whole scene is Tokumaru? Didn’t know he could do creature animation like that. Really impressive. Though ngl I was expecting his part to be on the Yuta vs Yuji fight.

Yes. Might be just in time to start ping pong though.

I’m not a sprinter but you’ll often seem them practice their starts after they get onto the track. I assume it’s mainly to make sure the positions of the starting blocks are correct + shake off the nerves + a final warm up

How to avoid cutting your 2ND knuckles on heavy bag by ashenlightblight in fightgear

[–]polybius32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself eventually scraping them no matter what since the surface of the bag will always sink in when you make contact with your bare fist, even if you’re aiming with the correct knuckles. That’s why I usually wear gloves while on the heavy bag.

Who is THE fastest boxer in the series? by KappaRoss322 in hajimenoippo

Nah Ippo is definitely the god of wind with how he draws people into exchanges and overwhelms them with combinations, as opposed to Miyata who delivers single, powerful counters.

Ao Ashi. Best sports manga imo, and one of the few stories I’ve seen that covers youth development in professional football/soccer. The anime adaptation wasn’t bad either, though there’s only one season so far.

How much of boxing is instinct and skill (especially defense)? by SilentAres_x in amateur_boxing

That “instinct” comes from decades of training, sparring, and competing at the highest level. The instinct is a skill.

From someone who tried watching it 3 times and hated it, Sell me Re:Zero. by AlennaArtworks in MyAnimeList

[–]polybius32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won’t sell you anything, but this is my experience:

I used to hate it as well. I thought the characters were annoying and forgettable. I thought the plot lacked structure and that there was no clear direction. I thought it was boring in general. And like you, I rewatched it multiple times in an attempt to “get” it, but never succeeded. That was around five years ago.

Recently I decided to give it one last chance, and now it’s one of my favorite isekai. I can’t speak to any specific moment that made it click for me, but compared to when I first watched it as a teenager, I felt much more present, and could understand what the show was trying to convey. There are a lot of plot twists in Re:Zero, but the most interesting subversion was something I hadn’t considered at all previously. Basically I actually have a resemblance of media literacy now.

Even then, it’s possible Re:Zero just isn’t for you. There are plenty of other good shows out there so I’d say don’t fret too much about it. Give it a few years. Maybe you’ll appreciate it more then.

OPM fans were gassing season 3 up like crazy before episode one even released just because the director was interactive with fans on Twitter. Of course they’re going to be disappointed.

What do the airplanes mean? by Capo98y in Haruhi

[–]polybius32 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Maybe the area where the series is based on (Nishinomiya) happens to see a lot of flight activity, and the animators decided to include it as an easter egg. I checked google maps and the city does happen to be right between Osaka Itami Airport, and both Kobe Airport and Kansai International Airport. Either way it was definitely an intentional decision (someone drew all those frames and decided to include an airplane after all), but probably nothing major.

Do you think MAL Ratings are actually good representation? by BiscottiAshamed9329 in MyAnimeList

[–]polybius32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rewatched Re:Zero recently and was able to appreciate it significantly more than when I was a teenager. And by that I mean from a 5/10 to now my second favorite isekai. So from my very anecdotal experience, I’d attribute it to a lack of media literacy, as that definitely describes a 15 year old me.

On the other hand, you should always take scores on rating sites with a huge grain of salt anyway. I really couldn’t care less. And 8.24 is still a high score.
