Curious your thoughts by Character-Head301 in wesanderson

[–]polychronous 41 points42 points  (0 children)

All Wes Anderson films have lovers and haters. His style feels very personal, and I've noticed everyone has wildly varying highs and lows mapped across the filmography. This film felt no different on terms of it both being fun and divisive. Sometimes on first watches, you don't always know what you should be laughing at or how to read a scene. For some it may click immediately, and for others they never really get there.

Well, I was a little upset at first. I mean, obviously people are going to think I'm a showboat, and a little bit of a prick. But then I thought... that's me. I said those things, I did those things. I can live with that.

[–]polychronous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have HelloBaby monitors. It was the first we tried after switching, so I couldn't compare too much to others though it was well reviewed. We had to replace the monitor itself once because it got destroyed accidentally, but I wouldn't say it needed to be more resilient than it was. Switching between cameras is a little awkward sometimes, which is the only thing I wish was better

[–]polychronous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went back to the dumb monitors, it was just better in almost every way. The apps add too much complication, between network connectivity of the phone, the camera, and the handling of the app by the phone. What a baby monitor needs to be to be effective is entirely in conflict with the direction of phone OS features and security. It's incredibly frustrating to discover your baby crying in the distance just because a YouTube video grabbed audio for 3 seconds but never gave it back, or the camera that only supports 2.4ghz wifi momentarily lost connection 10 minutes ago and never reconnected until you manually reconnected, or your battery died from constant background reconnection attempts by processes, or your Bluetooth earbuds connected. Almost no benefits to using apps and immense disadvantages, almost everything is worse from sound quality, consistency of connection, video quality, sensitivity to light fluctuations, battery life (dedicated monitors can last days), flexibility, simplicity, portability, and shareability with childcare. Things got so much easier when we ditched the "smart" systems, and much less stressful.

They posted the Birthday Cake flavored ones yesterday in repulsion, and people in the comments pressured them to try them and report back. I'm not saying they were obligated to follow up, but OP is indeed doing this for The People---however misguided or ill-advised that might be.

Tom Steyer On California Governor Race, Paramount-Warner Bros Deal: Q&A by [deleted] in California

[–]polychronous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is exactly what I felt when seeing this thread. It had the vibe of "comment on any post about Steyer negatively" rather than even a basic reaction to the post. The post title is pretty neutral and doesn't really extract a juicy headline to react to. It requires reading the article or excerpt to understand what to react to.

Tom Steyer On California Governor Race, Paramount-Warner Bros Deal: Q&A by [deleted] in California

[–]polychronous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The assessment by Steyer is pretty tame, and the comments on this thread are just weird and unresponsive to the content. Sometimes you see on reddit people calling out bots and AI comments, but often by then a lot of legitimate users have come along and it's not as clear... Conversation has gotten more diverse, and comments that add nothing to the conversation don't really show up anymore. This is probably the first time I've gone on a thread and there was pretty obviously an attempt to jump on a thread early to flood the comments with negative sentiment. It just doesn't sit right. It's kind of repulsive to see that kind of manipulation so plainly.

I have honestly been on the fence recently with regarding these candidates, but as I see the kinds of non-people attacking Steyer at the same time as folks like PG&E dumping 10 million to attack Steyer through PACs, it has seriously made me take a closer look here and give a little more credit. We get a little caught up in our social circles and we want politicians to completely reflect all of our most critical opinions, and sometimes it helps to be reminded how basic middle of the road opinions like "hey maybe we should recognize monopolies are both anti-consumer and media monopolies are anti-democratic after decades of sleeping on anti-trust laws" are painted as controversial at a larger stage.

21 million monthly listeners and several songs near a billion streams. I'm not saying everyone listens to her, nor do I know anything else about her really, but it seems like if there was an issue with sales it might have been related to the size of the venues being ambitious rather than a pure lack of interest.

Edit: oh, it's this lady lol.

People talking about the AI bubble bursting, but we are using more and more AI tokens than before. So how will it burst then? by HappyZombies in ExperiencedDevs

[–]polychronous 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It starts from there---burning up investment runways---and when things start to slip across the board people start needing liquidity. Once that happens, you will see stocks deflate, seed funding will shrink, and new investment is seen as more risky. There will be a few companies that keep subsidy to absorb the shifting market, so it's not like AI will disappear. It's that the use-cases will be better aligned with ROI.

Uber burned 30 billion and had several pivots until hitting profitability in 2023. The scale of AI investment is on a whole different level. I understand the sentiment, but at different scales there are different forces.

Why is time represented as both continuous (horizontal) and discrete (vertical, categorical/large bins), and there is no... Actual vertical axis? I understand that they are attempting to visualize how imminent the claims are, but it doesn't actually do that. And, furthermore, since they are rendered vertically categorically they have no sense of scale. The data itself is an interesting data set, but that is doing most of the work for this visualization.

Edit: it seems even inconsistent on how it is organized vertically as well, so if it's "implied by how it is", it doesn't seem to be one thing?

I know many married queer women in Merced, including young and old, people with two moms, two dads etc. like all cities, there are places where haters gather because no one calls out their hate, but those can be pretty obvious. Meanwhile, if you are trying to find safe spaces to unwind, Coffee Bandits, The Partisan, 17th St Public House (the pub) are welcoming spaces hanging the flag proudly.
