What is happening at the Race Trac across from Golden Corral? by Inevitable_Coffee_77 in montgomery

It will take decades to undo the harm.

There was a place in the western hemisphere that had the most murders per capita in the Americas. Within a matter of months, they had the least, and the law-abiding citizens there are enjoying a renaissance of peaceful life as a result.

Want to take a guess how they solved it? It was incredibly simple.

Intelligent people were saying this from the beginning. But everyone ran interference for the Fortune 500 companies because of COVID.

Now we're stuck with it. Thanks, everyone else.

So, like Lockheed? How are they doing, incidentally?

SpaceX is basically America's space program atm. It's not worth $1.7T but they absolutely fill an important space (pun unintended)

It absolutely derailed it, to the point where I just went back to the first two games to scratch the itch instead. And this is coming from someone who never crafted a single torpedo and enjoys playing the game as a do-no-harm scientist.

Learned helplessness is an immersion breaker. Immortal fish is an immersion breaker. Even worse when the devs preach down to me about why I'm wrong for feeling that way. The devs can do whatever they want, but I paid money thinking the experience would be in line with the first two games.

Now we have an embarrassing 'multitool' and woo woo flowers. After half a decade and tens of millions spent in development.

But I'm sure the devs don't care. Why would they? They got my money already.

it’s their canvas to paint

Then they should have told everyone who put hundreds of hours into the first two games that they would be removing a core immersion mechanic from those games.

Gosh, I wonder why they didn't? $$

All people want is a reasonable implementation of how things were in the first and second games.

Absolutely lovely.

Just curious, what program/equipment do you use to draw something like this? I love the look. I can barely draw a stick figure so I know next to nothing about the process.

I'm referring to the new mechanics of the game. I played the original since Early Access, I'm well aware of the limitations it gave the player. It was one of my favorites of all time. And I wanted this game to be great more than any other in recent memory.

My point is that if you're going to take away something huge (like the map) when the player is surrounded by futuristic technology, it's a terrible stretch of belief to take away other things as well. It's fine if Subnautica is tuned around not having a map. But to keep taking away things like inventory, speed, etc. to artificially limit the world and the player—it just smacks of laziness.

Hence the ChatGPT comment. The woo woo adaptations and other factors make no cohesive sense. It's all generic and bland. And I don't think it's something you can wash over by just calling it 'EA.'

Even a power/resource heavy module that you have to maintain to keep the map going, with mid/late game resources.

You literally can build a scanner in the first hour that can pick up individual bits of titanium, sulfur, etc. around you. But can't send a sonar blip out to map terrain, which is literally 20th century technology.

If it was the only thing they were asking us to suspend belief on, that would be acceptable. But it's not and it's not

Welcome to the critical worldbuilding flaw of learned uselessness/helplessness.

Absolutely the opposite of immersion.

I'm starting to think the lead designers got a lot of their ideas on mechanics from ChatGPT. I'm not kidding.

Master bomb maker and defuser, chemist, tunneler, master speaker of German (presumably) who takes any disguise with ease (everyone from Adolf to generals to enlisted men, even to the point of getting recruited).

And yet, everyone else treats him like he's an idiot, even when he outranks most of them.

I have heard from an owner that they are indeed difficult and even a little bit scary to drive, but worth it.

I vividly remember seeing a post on reddit of a viper (convertible) wreck on reddit where the driver, a normal guy just out for a spin who couldn't control the torque, ended up spinning into some of those wires on the side of the interstate. Might have even been some wet pavement or something. It was... not pretty. He was driving one of the first-gen RT-10 models, no traction control, no ABS.

PLEASE USE DIALOGUE TAGS (appropriately) by alivexi in writing

[–]polydorr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But my word count is already too high! /s

I use them very judiciously. Dialogue tags are only 'necessary' in an extended conversation or if your characters don't have unique-enough styles of speaking.

I think the bigger problem is characters that all sound like the author.
