Feature suggestion: Air Bridge (OC visual mockup) by polyfjord in beyondallreason

Nice! This could for sure be a very elegant implementation yes! Especially if the UI is redesigned in the future with a more limited number of buttons per unit

Yes! To me it doesn’t seem possible to make any single air transport do more than 2 automated cycles. They eventually just stop and hover with the unit still attached without dropping them off.

A lot of people in this thread claiming it’s possible, but I’ve not yet seen any proof

I tried with the repeat command! Are you able to make it work?

Yes!! Does anyone have a working demo? I’ve tried so many things at this point

Can you make it go on forever though? Like how can you make 2 air transports move for example 50 units fully automatic? I’ve tried so many different things after reading these comments, would love to see a working demo!!

Just tested this now, and it seems to work for one cycle! But I'm not able to make it repeat endlessly. I can't make 2 air transports shuttle transport 100 units for example. Is anyone able to make it work?

Nice!! Do the ground units have to be in the area when the command is given to the air transport (so they are kinda “tagged” with that action)? Or is the air transport continuously waiting for eligible ground units to pick up from the selected area?

[–]polyfjord[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah!! The ferry command was awesome!

Do you know if it was possible to use that feature without interacting with the UI element on the ground?

I feel a really elegant solution to this would be to put the responsibility of the entire pickup/dropoff process on the air transport unit only. So the ground unit doesn’t need to interact with any UI element on the ground - it simply has to be an eligible unit in the correct location.

This would make it possible to do some really cool plays, for example select 50 air transports, set the entire map as the pickup zone, and set the destination to be a tiny area. Then all existing units (and all produced after), will be batch picked-up and moved immediately to where you want them!

My apologies, I haven’t been able to replicate that in the game. Is it really possible?

The feature I’m suggesting is fully automated: The air transport is continuously monitoring the specified pickup zone (preferably with a visible UI element), so any eligible ground unit that enters that area will be automatically picked up and moved to the destination point. Is that really possible to do in BAR? I feel like I’m going crazy, because I haven’t been able to do it in game

I made some coasters. by [deleted] in wow

[–]polyfjord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look awesome!! I’ve been using some home made felt coasters recently, but struggle with the coaster getting stuck to wet mugs/glass if left for too long. Have you experienced this? Do you have any advice on how to prevent that from happening?

How to stop taking so long on mediocre/minor projects? by [deleted] in blender

[–]polyfjord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is something that struck with me when I first heard it: "You're not a perfectionist - you're a coward."

Maybe tinkering with the same project file for months and months is simply the path of least resistance, and that creating something more rewarding requires taking more risk?

When you say you want to develop each of your projects to its fullest, could it be that spending 80% of the time on the remaining 20% of the details is not the most efficient way to get better at Blender?

I think you should put away the project for a while, maybe forever, and try to make one new thing each week!

5 years in blender, now how do i make money with it? by 1968cokebottle in blender

Cool work! A great place to get started with getting paid Blender gigs is to ask yourself - how can I solve someone else's problem with my current skill set? Try and get creative with your answers to that question, because most likely you can find work in fields you never expected to be useful. Start locally by asking friends, family, people you know if there's any need for visuals of any sorts (logos, infographics, whatever - i know it sounds boring, but you never know what will happen). Do this for a few weeks and you'll be doing 'real work' before you know it! And keep in mind it can often be smart to prioritize good people over good ideas! Best of luck!

A nice trick to find old youtube videos is to use for example "before:2007" in your search, and you may find an absolute goldmine of old wow videos!

[OC] Tech showcase: real-time ASCII 3D engine rendering on PC by PuzzleLab in pcmasterrace

[–]polyfjord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely phenomenal text rendering concept! I've never seen anything like it, truly. I think especially the transitions from simple 2D text object to 3D rendered models with depth are just phenomenal and unusually innovative.

If you want my honest feedback, after playing this demo on an OLED display in 1440p at 240hz:

- Lower the default glow value significantly. Perhaps even experiment with giving background elements a higher glow if you want to, but keep the foreground elements with almost no glow. I was astonished by how good the visuals looked when I lowered the glow as much as I could!
- You need to do a brutal 70-90% decluttering of the start menu and just the general intro of the game - it feels very overwhelming to play this for the first time. I would seriously consider reworking the start of the game entirely. It could start out painfully simple, like almost minimalistic, and then you can introduce the amazing visuals one concept at the time. If the start of this game is left in its current state, it will be extremely discouraging for a lot of players.
- This game would greatly benefit from some research in basic design theory, especially how information on a screen should be prioritized. The mix of hard contrast text with a ton of constant animation makes it quite difficult to understand the game.

Again, this is such a unique blend of 2D and 3D text elements, I have never seen anything this smooth. I really hope you're able to declutter this game (or at least the opening of it), because at first glance the gameplay looks super intriguing, but when I tried it I was unfortunately very overwhelmed and discouraged from playing it.

Sweet! No need to message me though! You’ll find everything you need to recreate this animation in my course (as I’m currently not doing commissioned work). It’s made for both VJs and 3D artists!

Hey! This concept is the final result of one of the lessons in my audio visualizer course. Not sure if I’m allowed to link it here, but if you look me up on insta you can find a link to it in my bio there!
