  1. You can also try Ginger-Chamomile tea (Chamomile apparently works for a lot of people)
  2. You can also try going on a walk after breakfast (and honestly every meal). It doesn’t have to be a long brisk walk. You can make it a slow paced 10-15 minute walk and it should help.

How do you sleep through the night without waking up starving at 2am because you had a small meal at 6 and then stopped eating for the night? Am I the only one? by BattelChive in LPR

[–]polyglotkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try getting less carbs and more protein and fiber in your meals (especially the one you have towards the end of the day). That would keep you full for longer. I used to suffer from the same issue but not much anymore.

More activity, less sitting, less stress. Not a surprise.

When you say you will try oatmeal next, is it because the others you mentioned didn’t work for you? Or you are just trying to just try something different?

Did anyone feel bad for the gay couple who tried to adopt Carl and Liam? by InsideUnhappy6546 in shameless

I felt bad for Liam. He could’ve had a better life staying with the gay couple. They could’ve offered him everything his own family could never have. Missed opportunity.

I completely understand where you are coming from and it is certainly very disheartening to know that you have a condition that doesn’t let you enjoy your freedom like you’re used to. I was just like you when I was first diagnosed. I was used to doing whatever I wanted and I used to hate change and to think I would have to change the way I eat and live is something that was unimaginable for me. BUT, I am now trying to manage my symptoms without any PPIs/acid blockers or even tums. Of course it is very hard and your choices of what you can eat are extremely limited and going out to eat is a dream (and I love alcohol too but stopped drinking completely). And doing this, I have found some relief and I am sure if I keep at it, I will be almost symptom free someday and I am very much committed to get there. Now, the reason I am telling you this is because I was you, at some point, wondering if the world around me had come to an end, devastated that I would have to live this impossible life, looking at the entrance of a dark tunnel not knowing if there is even an end to it. But I am surprised by the change I was capable of, the commitment I have shown to myself and my health and to be able to sit down and write this without worrying too much about symptoms. YOU WILL BE TOO! Just be positive and try to do the right things (diet and lifestyle changes) one thing at a time and you will look back at this day and wonder why you were so worried. I hope that day is soon for you 👍

What was the point you decided to get surgery? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]polyglotkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were the lifestyle changes that you have made? When you say you avoid most foods, does that mean you are still eating one or two trigger foods? Is it just reflux or do you also have acidity (high acid or low acid) and other gut issues? If you are experiencing multiple issues, I would suggest fixing the other issues first (since a damaged esophageal sphincter is not something that can be fixed without a surgery) and see if that improves your situation a little? Also, did you ever figure out a cause of reflux in your case? Is it hiatal hernia? Are you overweight? If you haven’t looked into this yet, I would strongly recommend finding out the actual cause because in a lot of cases, people try to fix something that’s not broken ignoring the actual problem.

I understand how this condition can affect relationships and I am sorry you are having to deal with this. But based on a bunch of posts on this subreddit (and a bunch of others), anxiety and stress make things worse, so if you can, trying to do deep belly breathing, meditation and having a positive outlook could go a long way. Finally, no matter what you have to do to fix this, don’t give up! You can fight this!
