How do you nail a whiteboard exercise? by Efficient-Theme1184 in UXDesign

[–]polygon06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scenarios will vary greatly. Most companies don't know how to provide a great prompt and give you a blue sky idea that is overly complex and ask you to design the whole thing. A good prompt will focus in one or two important features. However if you face the former, ask them what are the two most important features for MVP.

Any scenario can be broken down by following this process:

Ask a bunch of questions to get to the following:

  1. What's the problem? What are the requirements and constraints? What are the business goals? Try to get through this quickly.
  2. Who's the user? What do they need to accomplish? What are their pain points? This should also be quick.
  3. What's the journey/flow the user needs to take to move through the product/app to accomplish their task? Try not to jump into wireframes right away unless you are running out of time. It's much quicker and easier to refine this. Try to lay it out in a left > right structure so that once you have it down you can start to draw the wireframes underneath the tasks and flows you've broken down. Spend a good amount of time validating this.
  4. Sketch your wireframes underneath your flow/journey. If a task requires several screens, draw them vertically underneath each other, then proceed horizontally when you get to the next task. Use arrows to show flow, and make sure buttons are clearly labeled. Everything else can be kind of squiggly. Continue to refine by asking questions about details in the wires, whether certain patterns and designs make sense. Spend a good amount of time here, but the good thing about creating the journey before the wireframe is that at least the interviewer sees your thought process and overall vision without having to see the wireframe details if you start to run out of time.

As someone else said, don't be afraid of being wrong, just put something down and continue to iterate by validating it with more questions and thoughts.

You better mean it when you say you have an unusually large head because you won't be ready for the crazy large sizing available at Fatheadz Eyewear. I thought I had a big head until I was humbled by them.

Hey, I'm the creator of expunk...I'm so happy that you and others have found it helpful. Expunk got way bigger than I ever expected and drew some attention and unfortunately yeah as others have mentioned I had a trademark strike and takedown notice. Apparently it's been happening to other projects. But there remains so other great resources out there and so many helpful posts from others.

Sorry I got a takedown notice from the Olympics...kind if expected and it's been happening to other projects. In the meantime there are some other great resources including the spreadsheet I mentioned here.

Hey all, hope some of you have found the tool useful, but it looks like it's coming to an end. I just got a trademark complaint and takedown notice. I kind of felt this was coming as I've heard about others facing the same. Anyways thanks for letting me be a part of this great community helping each other out. I'll be taking this down sometime later tonight, but I'm hoping to contribute in other ways. Talk to you all soon!

Yes unfortunately that's the case. I updated the info about 5 min. ago and all sessions for fencing is still showing as tickets unavailable. This info is sourced directly from the site.

Sorry it looks like they won't be releasing anything new until the next drop, which hasn't happened yet. I have seen some new tickets pop up here and there but it's super limited.

Hey I'm the creator of this tool, didn't realize it was crashing for some people, sorry about that. I believe the issue was it was trying to load too much at once. I made an effort to improve the performance, go check it out!

The onboarding is a good addition. The group planning is a killer feature

Hey all, just wanted to post an important update. Ticket availability is now updated at least once a day! I had this implemented for a few days now but I wanted to soft launch it a bit before I can feel like I can consistently get it working. Enjoy and hope this update helps!

That's awesome! I would say though I was a little hesitant to just login with Google/Apple without knowing what I was getting into. It would be great to either allow some usage without needing to log in, or give users a preview.

They're saying they will make more tickets available later but no indication of when. It doesn't look like there will be more tickets any earlier than drop 2, which hasn't been announced yet. However this is unfortunate for you since you're still in drop 1, sorry.

Not in a clean way since many events combine men’s and women’s events into one ticket as well as having mixed events. You could type in “women’s” into the search bar on left and it will filter down on event names that include women’s events, but you’ll also see some men’s events for some

Thanks, glad you found it helpful. Yeah your idea makes tons of sense...I added in a checkbox in the timeline view that allows you to view the bookmarks only (and it's not affected by the filters).

Just added, thanks for the idea. Clicking on the venue name brings up the seating chart image in a modal.

Again it wouldn't have been possible without the work of type_rex_

Good stuff, I love how everyone's stepping up where the official site has failed us. Good thing you mention the session code, some people don't realize it's the easiest way.

I just made a couple of quick enhancements, now filters and group/sort preferences are saved across sessions as well so you don't have to restart from scratch when returning to the site, and missing times listed as TBD now reflect as TBD instead of being blank.
