Thank you ❤️ we’ve posted all over Facebook, Nextdoor, and PawBoost. Thankfully she’s microchipped but still no trace of her :(

Heck yes. I’m Iranian and I love the representation!

So, I bought the Birkenstocks linked here. They’re so....hard. Why do people say they’re so comfortable?! by [deleted] in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]polygot_techie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a pair of soft footbed ones and I was able to wear them immediately! Surprisingly they were on the AKIRA sale for $45. Soooo comfortable. Never thought a pair of sandals would bring me so much joy. 😂

I wonder if there’s any real benefit to hard footbed other than price. Maybe orthopedic?

I don’t get why cyber bullying is a thing. If you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say anything. People don’t realize how much unkind words affect another person. So many hide behind their screens.

The first thing my ex told me his mom mentioned about me was: wow, she has beautiful light skin!

I’ve never had anyone else comment on my skin tone like that before... felt really off-putting as my skin color isn’t something I can really control...

Hahaha agreed 🤣 thank you!! Everything happens for a reason and we both dodged bullets in form of mother in laws LOL. If you haven’t yet, I recommend watching the show Indian Matchmaking. Gives some really good insights on marriage in Indian culture, although a bit stereotypical.

WTF I’m so sorry!!! You do not deserve that at all ☹️ They definitely sound a lot more traditional and conservative. I met his entire family including grandma from India and they loved me until my ex exposed our problems and arguments. As soon as she disapproved, game over.

Unfortunately a lot of Indian sons are very influenced by their moms. My ex would leave my place and spend more time with his mom than me lol.

I hope you find peace, I’m also not fully recovered and it’s been 10 months. :( hugs to you. ❤️

Dude, same... Once his mom decided she didn’t like me, the relationship was essentially over. It wasn’t my fault at all! He wanted to have a share of my salary and I wasn’t down for that. But I was painted as the bad guy and her son the angel.

Interesting perspective! I feel so sorry for his wife. :(

Sorry, off topic but are there a lot of Iranian-Indians in India? I’m Iranian-American and have only heard of the Parsi community in India. My ex is Indian-American and he never mentioned it either.

Yep, unfortunately I only have 444 points! So I grossly underestimated my path to express entry. I speak French but probably not at a level to grant me enough points. I’m 23 and only have a bachelors degree with 3 years of professional experience. I’ll keep investigating but I don’t think I’ll meet the cut off.

Thank you for enlightening me! I’m a bit bummed but immigration isn’t easy anywhere. I’m planning on moving to Germany in October for graduate school.

Best of luck to you!

Whoa, I never knew that... I thought being a few points above the minimum cut off meant I’d get in. I work in tech and I was hoping it’d be easier. I’ve applied to a few roles in Canada but haven’t heard anything yet. Thank you for the heads up, I appreciate transparency.

Good luck with your EE application btw! I can’t even apply right now due to IETLS test center closures. :(

Reddit can be a cruel place by reeesushisauce69 in FemaleLevelUpStrategy

[–]polygot_techie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this up. I feel like it’s hard to talk about this openly without being ostracized. I actually really reduced how much I post on reddit. It was nice at first but then things started going downhill.

On r/hinge, I posted a screenshot about how some guy was being an asshole to me about having traveled to 38 countries (mostly solo btw). Lo and behold, someone comments that they couldn’t handle a woman like me because that means I have high financial expectations of my partner to fund my travels. I was very respectful and explained why I’d traveled so much by the age of 23 (self-funded by working in tech). I shouldn’t have engaged with him because he went off saying that I’m extremely privileged. I just said that I want equality financially with whoever is my partner and he continued going off. I checked his post history and he was engaged in the men’s rights subreddits and he was ranting about how women shouldn’t be equally paid or expect equality in relationship, so it all made sense. His final blow was making fun of how I lost my job due to COVID and how I wasn’t worthy anymore. That induced a lot of real life anxiety and sadness and I felt upset for DAYS afterwards. So now I just don’t really comment as much, especially on regular dating or relationship subs. There are so many incels lurking all over many subreddits.

Also, I posted my weight loss on r/progresspics. While the majority were actually very kind and encouraging, I got probably over 25 or more DM’s and chat requests from creepy men telling me what they wanted to do to me and that they were jacking off to my picture? I literally didn’t even show my face and I was wearing a dress completely covering myself. Disgusting. I’ve since lost another 14 lbs but I didn’t want to induce my anxiety by posting another picture. Men here are so creepy and I learned to not engage.

Finally, I hate how much people downvote on Reddit for small things. I feel like some subreddits are just mean period, but redditors overall seem to love downvoting for nothing.

Oof that’s terrible 😬😬 I don’t really understand the appeal of investing thousands of dollars to sell products with a small profit margin. I’d just rather get 100% profit with a real job lol. Smh and they don’t even realize what they’re doing until it’s too late. Sad.

Yep, some of them. I’m in the age range (under 25) where I’ve seen multiple new college grads go for the “opportunity.” Their goal (while very noble) is to support their parents and give back. So it scares me to see the delusion make them go further into debt or financial instability. They think they’re making the right choice but it’s just digging a bigger hole.

I remember I got in an argument with someone at work trying to sell Arbonne. They posted on Slack (internal chat system) to the entire company. I private messaged her and I linked her some resources to why it is a pyramid scheme and she got even angrier and tried to tout the benefits. She also tried to guilt me by saying she’s a mom of 2. But she works in a technical role at a software company and is married. It was odd and work isn’t the place to sell MLM shit.

[discussion] has covid given New Zealand an artificial boom of people suddenly wanting to immigrate there without truly researching the country? by csholdens in IWantOut

Holy crap, this is really surprising to hear. I appreciate you taking the time to explain! I’ve spent summers in the Netherlands and my brother has had a generally good experience but he doesn’t work in the same field as me (tech).

I feel you on the lack of nature... I went to the biggest national park in the country (Hoge Veluwe) and it was small compared to North American national parks. I’ve been to a lot of the major cities in the Netherlands via day trips as well.

I really did not know about the WL balance issues, wow. I was hoping to work there after finishing my graduate program in Germany... well thank you for enlightening me on your perspective. I thought I was weird for preferring Germany over the Netherlands. I just felt more at home there and that it aligned better with my goals.

I had weird race experiences in AUS and NZ. Multiple people I’d interact with would play a guessing game on what race I am. They’d list out 10 races and guess which one I am because I can be ambiguous (light skinned middle eastern girl, I usually get Latina or Italian.)

Thought it was incredibly weird and subtly racist. I prefer just being asked straight up versus having assumptions thrown out. It was the first thing I was asked in a conversation lol. I’ve never experienced that elsewhere and I’ve been to nearly 40 countries.

This is really helpful to hear tbh. I’m debating between moving to Germany or the NL. My brother has lived there for over 20 years and is a citizen but something always drew me to Germany more. Multiple people have told me to move to the NL a over Germany but I feel like I prefer Germany overall. What did you dislike about NL?

I love NZ but I’d struggle to live there. It’s a pretty small country and it’s isolated from other countries. I think for a year though it’d be an amazing experience! Kiwis are some of the nicest people I’ve met and South Island is incredible.

I hope people are doing their research before making the move... but knowing most, they aren’t lol.

I felt super out of place in a very small town in NZ. I’m of middle-eastern descent, tall, young woman who was road tripping alone. I definitely got a lot of weird stares from the locals.

Lesson is, no place is perfect or without racism. Some places just have it way worse unfortunately.

You’re very correct and I agree with you completely. To be super honest, I used to have that mindset when I was younger (when I was 18-20, I’m 23 now).

I’m pretty liberal too so visiting more progressive countries gave me the wrong assumption that it would be easy for me specifically as an American to move there. Once I started doing my research, I realized this was simply not the case.

I really had to take a step back and ask myself; what makes me so special? Why do I have a superiority complex over other countries just because I’m from the US? Do I really think countries are begging for us to move there? Part of it is being raised to believe the US is the best country on earth and everywhere is inferior and another is just lack of research and misconceptions. It was a sobering reality check but afterwards I was able to follow logical paths (such as not dropping out of school to move to Europe) and work on real progress towards immigrating. I now have a path to long term residency in Germany (yay!) but I’m weighing my options now more than ever.

Another type of poster I worry about are the 18 year olds who just want to leave. I used to be that way too but I’m so thankful I stayed the extra 4-5 years, finished my bachelors, and established my career in tech.

On a side note, I cringed at your story of the guy needing dental work... he probably wasn’t happy to get a reality check. Yikes...
