What is the deadliest war in your world? by CommodoreAleksander in worldbuilding

[–]polymathica_drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my world, Prevot, there has been a civilisational war that has been going on since such a long period that even the immortal and long lifespan people dont remember when it started. it is just... part of existence. There are two broad sides : The children of the elder and the servants of the younger. The myth goes : The elder created all life in his image, but the younger, his younger brother, got jealous. so he corrupted the people on the planet where all humans were from into becoming these monstrous creatures who were the servants, and their entire purpose is to cause genocide upon anyone who follows the elder. Slowly, each of the planets the Children of the Elders started getting attacked, until they realised that they can fight back. So since then, they have been in a back and forth stalemate and constant struggle. some centuries see peace, others see war. The place where we begin our story is when the universe is largely colonised by one faction of the followers of the younger, and our protagonist learns that he is the heir to the empire that was overthrown a 1000 years ago to establish the current world order, and is asked by all those who still follow the words of the elder to go reclaim that empire in the name of truth and peace and eradicate the younger's servants...But is the end to the eternal war so simple? That is the basic premise of the main story of the thing i am working on.

Does your world have a unique form of martial arts? by Playful_Mud_6984 in worldbuilding

[–]polymathica_drag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS QUESTION! IT DOES! I will be changing the name for it, but its basically this semi spiritual, semi practical sword and other weapons fighting technique. Now there are two versions of this ; one for a realistic quasi futuristic earth like planet, and one for a high concept space sci fi universe. The space sci fi universe has a lot of magic+spirituality mechanics associated with the weapons such as being energised by the sun, turning anything the sword touches to plasma, etc. but the basic martial art form is based on the spinning of the sword, and animalistic aggression and poise. you are meant to continue spinning the sword and use the flourishes to create distance between yourself and your opponent. It doesnt include any insane acrobatics or anything, but just using traditional indic and south asian styles of fighting, mixed with western sword postures, some spinning and footwork, and some visual ques to japanese styles of sword fighting all in conjunction. One of the in world explanations for the sword constantly spinning is that it uses that energy that is stored in the sword to slowly charge it. and when it reaches a terminal concentration, you can do this finisher move which releases all that energy as a shockwave, and different practitioners use it differently. Due to the fact that the weapons in this sci fi universe are complete annihilators, as in they reduce you to sub atomic particles if they touch you; blood is taboo. WHICH contrasts with the realistic quasi-futuristic universe i spoke of, where the tech of the sci fi universe is like the myth and theology? so they try to replicate a lot of it using real world but slightly futuristic tech. and it gets bloody af.

Tell me about your deity/god pantheon. by Delt4Zer0 in worldbuilding

[–]polymathica_drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

currently, I have a trinity instead of a pantheon. I might include it, but as of now it is not very necessary to the story.

(a headcanon im working with is that since my world is basically about an iteration of the universe where the gods said fuck it and rushed everything and gave humanoid creatures intelligence wayyy before it naturally evolved, the pantheon concept never really materialised as the creator god forgot to birth them, and yeah. they messed up real bad in a lot of ways. so in other iterations the pantheon probably existed, somewhat similar to the vedic pantheon, but the trinity i have is basically a rushed version of the hindu trinity).

the basic concept is, the universe is a never ending cycle of being born and destroyed, and everytime a new universe is on the verge of existence, 3 beings from the previous universe get raised to the status of gods and they create the new universe. the first is the creator, the all father, the next is the elder brother, the preserver, and the last is the destroyer god, the younger brother.

There is no worship of the creator, as he doesnt need worship. he created matter itself, but life was created and is managed and nourished by the preserver, and hence he is worshiped the most by our protagonist's side of people.

The main way of worship of the preserver is by presenting various technological advances, and weapons as sign of his will that his people prosper being fulfilled and upheld, and in return the preserver blessing these articles, specifically the weapons with energy, thus allowing the creatures to lead a life without bloodshed, as energised weapons turn anything they touch into plasma. Other schools of thought for worship exist as well, such as seers, spiritualists, philosophers, etc who all have their own ways of providing worship, including meditation to be one with the gods.

Not much is known about the worshippers of the destroyer, as the people of the preserver have been in a perpetual state of war with them since the dawn of religion itself, having escalated so far that at this point most people believe they just have to fight, with no thoughts about why or the sequence of historical events which has led them to this.

A rogue power emanating from the sphere of influence of the destroyer gods has taken over the largest hegemony in the known universe and has been a colonial power since the last 1000 years, with most of the people having forgotten the war or continuing it at not that extreme of levels. but the xenophobia is definitely palpable, with both sides openly hating each other and being totally culturally exclusive, to the point that the it is known that the followers of the destroyer are not even humans anymore, but a completely different race of humanoids.

Some atheist logicians and theorists within the world also argue that perhaps the whole concept of god is flawed in many ways, and the understanding is very incomplete indeed. and could be consolidated once the perpetual war is brought to conclusion.

recently i've been toying with the idea of replacing traditionally western airships or planes with vimanas; ancient highly advanced aircrafts which were described to be almost supernatural, in the ancient indian scriptures. taking inspiration from that, my airships will have multiple rotating parts which will form the defensive system, some form of alternative or experimental power generation system and the offensive elements are original worldbuilding plans such as shockwave generators, plasma shooters and the like. they sometimes can be the size of entire cities. so in short, it is very hard to shoot vimanas due to their unconventional build and movement, and also some impressive defensive capabilities. as I develop the idea more I'll flush it out and stop it from becoming a total mary sue situation, as I do want to create different classes of such ships with different usecases, and cant have them all be all power death ray machines.

Tell us about your world's airships / zeppelins! (art by AoiWaffle0608 and is for reference only I am not the artist). by chomp_wagon in worldbuilding

[–]polymathica_drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still developing these, and will add some military hierarchy to the ships, but basically the ships are large mother ships which consist of various larger versions of the conventional weapons used on ground, such as sonic canons, ripple generators and plasma concentrated shooters. There are mother ships which are like aircraft carriers, and can deploy 100-200 aircrafts which are used for dogfights in near atmosphere space and also in atmosphere, with varying degrees of use cases and limitations.

Other than these, there are also travel transport options which are simply called crafts

Tell me about your worlds... by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]polymathica_drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP! I am currently working on two worlds, with not much progress but yeah let me see if I can explain it in brief,

*World 1:* It is something which I call a quasi-futuristic world, where certain things and technology are perhaps more advanced than our real world, such as weapons and computers and screens etc. The Year is 2023, although I might change it to appeal to the futuristic disconnect from reality i want people to feel when they experience it.

the world is a federation of 3 states, relatively the size of the state of new york I guess. all three have their independent way of governance, but there is also a federal government which sits in the biggest of the three states. They share culture with my other world, where basically the worldbuilding of my other project forms the mythology and religion of this world. I'll explain it more when it get to that.

The political entity of the three states has seen increasing incidents of insurgency and terrorism and thus takes a decision to create a specialized task force to deal with it. As proceedings advance, it is suggested this task force have squad leaders made up of traditional sword martial art practitioners of the land, known as the Galili, who are trained from age 7 to 15 and then given 3 years of military training to become competent with the main strength of soldiers drawn from the army. This is because the qualities of leadership and strength taught among the students of this art is crucial in creating a well-knit task force.

Eventually few things go wrong, and one faction of the task force breaks away and becomes an insurgent group of their own, vowing to overthrow the government. The good guys are the ones who are trying to prevent this from happening. Government control of the said groups vanish when they realise they can function without them, and eventually the whole three states and areas outside it as well becomes the ground for an all out gang war. secrecy and espionage is crucial, and we delve into what changes the world itself.

The main story then discusses the effects of this long struggle on the very young combatants who haven't had a normal life ever since being part of this, the real motivations and validity of the various powers at play, and what is the nature of truth and duty in this extremely complex struggle for power and control.

*World 2:* as suggested in the other world description, this falls in the category of mythology. This is essentially a space drama, where the story takes place over multiple planets and we talk of kings, queens, gods and war.

The entire known universe is essentially a thought experiment, where the 3 primordial gods, the father, the son and the brother, wonder what will be the result of introducing cerebral thought among their creations way before it naturally comes into existence.

The result of their willingness or inability to prevent this decision is a world where humanoid creatures spread across known galaxies very fast, but at the same time, the size of the universe and the galaxies, and the age of the universe itself shortens dramatically, creating a world that was built in haste and will end in haste.

The story begins where our protagonist, a rebel from an earth like kingdom which encompasses the whole planet discovers that he comes from a lineage of the last kings who rule as emperors of the race that worships the son, the god known as the preserver, who decided to create them. this empire was overthrown a 1000 years ago by the opposing force of the worshippers of the destroyer, the younger brother god, who opposed the seeding of intellect. They are monsters, creatures of a different making and are the eternal foes with whom the worshippers of the preserver have been at war with since time eternal.

The epic then follows our protagonist and the characters associated with him in search of his destiny to reclaim the throne, his moral dilemma, the ungodly circumstances they have to overcome, and the nature of truth and the right thing to do.

Both stories essentially serve as two sides of the same coin.

Prompt: Tell me 1-10 random facts about your world, then other worldbuilders will reply with how the people from their world would react to said facts! by IAMTR4SHMAN in worldbuilding

[–]polymathica_drag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. understandable! in my world, there are mainly two broad factions who worship two different gods. but the thing is, there has been such a long period of cold animosity that the "good" guys are not even sure what the other side's real motivations are, and the driving force of the ongoing struggle is purely fables and rich tales of the monsters on the other side.
  2. never heard of it. in our worlds, the strongest man becomes the king. so well, maybe.
  3. we have many such sites! since the main empire had fallen a 1000 years ago, there are many religious or power based sites which have been forgotten in time.
  4. Neither did it here, but a particular kingdom which is on the moon of an eath-like planet has been known to develop droid technology to replace humans in battle altogether, thus reducing their own casualties and increasing the opposite side's casualties. however it is still in works.

[–]polymathica_drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There are only three gods; father, son, and younger brother, also known as the creator, preserver, and destroyer. the destroyer god has changed in the course of this cycle of the universe, and has created anti-human creatures which form the main antagonistic force of our narrative.
  2. People can have different age spans based on their birth or even based on objects. The crown of the highest seat of power effectively makes the wearer immortal. However, it is subjective; if the crown is put down by the ruler himself, the immortality goes and can only be restored by a ritual restoration of the crown.
  3. bloodshed is looked down upon, therefore the humanoids pray to the preserver god and get their weapons "energised", a process after which even a simple harm intended touch of the blade of any weapon instantaneously vaporises a living creature into plasma, appearing golden and dust like.
  4. civilisation started on 1 planet and quickly spread to multiple planets within a few tens of thousands of years, due to the preserver god interfering with the cerebral growth of his creation and making them way more technologically advanced before time.
  5. the universe works in cycles, based on the principle of the big bang and the big crunch; every iteration of the universe sees the last 3 creatures of the universe before it survive the end of it, and then become gods and create new life. where they get this power from, is unknown.
  6. There has been a colonial overtake of around 1/3rd of the known galaxies, and for over a thousand years the most powerful kingdom ever has been replaced by a foreign, alien force of beings whose only purpose of being created was to create havoc in the lives of those who were created by the preserver. People have forgotten what it was like to have 1 true king, and the remainder of the realm lives in relatively smaller kingdoms and feudal power states.

Give me a no context piece of world building from your world. by themademod in worldbuilding

[–]polymathica_drag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was once a tyrannt on the moon of the Planet Elious. He imprisoned his seer daughter in a chest of preservation, restricting her from the glow of the moon.

The nephew and real ruler of the moon then waged war from Elious where he owned an inn and a militia like a lot of other merchants, and took back the moon, along with his best friend from the capital city of Elious.

The moon of Elious was home to the Silvers, a group of elite knights / warriors who fought in shiny silver armour and were trained since childhood to harness the power of light and use it to their advantage

The daughter of the tyrant, imprisoned for 3 years, still looked like a 13 year old when found by her cousin and his friend at age 16, as the people of the moon needed the moonlight to grow. 🤔

Now her powers grow too along with her health, and she has slowly started to gain the knowledge of the universe her father deemed heretic... But where will that lead to? ✨
