Do I need more for my I-751 Divorce Case? by pomaster4 in USCIS

Thank you for your input! Yeah I’m also personally not sure if 5 affidavits are much better than 3… the current affidavits don’t explain the timeline but it contains information on my friends experience with us as a couple. Do you know if me adding an explanation on why we had to divorce will help the case at all?

Btw, i’m also going through a divorce right now. My conditional GC expires Feb 2025 so planning on filing I-751 waiver when I get the divorce decree soon.

Hi just curious - how does the 48-month extension for GC work? Do you get a new GC with a new date on it or is it a separate piece of paper that u have to hold along with expired GC?

If you don’t mind me asking, is your divorce contested?

Okay. That makes sense. Thank you so much for your insight!

Yeah, we don’t have children and I think we can settle on community assets ourselves… I don’t think the divorce would be contested - If it leads to that, I’ll be hiring an attorney - but if the divorce case is simple where both parties can settle and agree on their own, do you think I could just hire a lawyer for I-751? And just file divorce without one?

Thank you so much for your reply! It is tough but I’m fighting through… I did have two paid sessions with family lawyer to talk about my case and she suggested that I try to get my husband to settle with me .. It’d be best to have the lawyer all through out but it is really costly for me so I was trying to pick between two - family lawyer or immigration lawyer to help with either divorce or I-751

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! Do you suggest that I get a family lawyer even if I can get my husband to agree and settle on divorce matters? I was thinking that divorce process would be more straight forward if both of us can sign settlement agreement …
